  1. Past hour
  2. Agreed, and it was announced in August 2024 that Maurice was moving to the Evening News. Meaning they’ve had 10 months or more to make a decision. Very odd.
  3. Doesn't look like it.
  4. Definitely weird for them not to have picked a replacement as it's been about five months. Such a long gap makes it seem like they're hiring from outside, otherwise it should be easy to promote someone from within. I wonder if all the uncertainty around CBS/Paramount and the new CBS Evening News has them keeping a seat warm for Maurice just in case.
  5. This is not a bad thing. Also, I'm guessing stations finally realized that a lot of viewers likely tune out after the weather forecast.
  6. NECN isn't even on Spectrum here in my part of CT, so I haven't been able to watch it since we moved from NH over a year ago. I imagine Comcast not wanting to run newscasts from stations they don't own (Tegna's WCSH/WLBZ, Sinclair's WJAR, Nexstar's WWLHearst's WPTZ), but you'd think they'd at least run newscasts from their other New England-based station -- WVIT here in CT. To say nothing of, oh.... Telemundo Boston. Makes you wonder what would've happened if Hearst owned stations in more than just 4 of the 9 DMAs... I think streaming (via apps or the FAST services) is the closest they'll likely get anytime soon, especially since NBC Nonstop didn't work out in the long run.
  7. Today
  8. WBZ has dropped its weeknight 9pm news on WSBK in favor of a new partnership between WBZ and NESN where it now airs a sports show from NESN after the 8pm news. https://tvnewscheck.com/programming/article/wbz-boston-new-england-sports-network-partner-for-red-sox-and-bruins-coverage/
  9. Yeah these photos definitely look like they are photographed separately. .
  10. I think that Kelly Clarkson ends her show in May 2026 that is when the contract is up in my opinion. Yeah, CBS should settle with Sony which Wheel & J going to HULU/Disney+ & Peacock for next day airing come the fall is a big blow to CBS.
  11. Closest sister stations to there would be in Austin or San Antonio. Unless they have a studio or bureau in San Angelo?
  12. Why didn't CBS buy WGNX when Tribune put the for sale sign up in 1999 or 2000 where it could be an CBS O&O sooner than now in my opinion. CBS ATL will be the dog station when it comes to news which is good news for WANF not being the dog station anymore. I don't think CBS has done well in Detroit, but I haven't seen the ratings for them when it comes to news for WWJ.
  13. Boy is Nexstar reversing so much from the past two years. It sounds like a pause back in 2023 to figure out their streaming strategy before resuming within the past couple of months. Still a long way to go, yes. Still waiting for the KTVX/KUCW version on Roku.
  14. It needs to end and that's from someone who has LOVED and ADORED NECN. It hasn't been the same since their Hearst days when the channel was much more managed and ACTUALLY focused on New England stories compared to just Boston. Today, NECN only airs news on weekdays. Weekends is mainly focused on lifestyle programs, outside of weekend mornings and even then, hours were crap. The last regional newscasts are 7-10, 11-11:30am, 12-2 and 3-4pm. WBTS' news are airing from 5-7am, 2-3, 4-6:30, and 7-7:30pm. So much for New England news... New England is a VERY UNIQUE region and it did deserve its own regional cable news channel. It sucks that NBC ruined it and I hope that NBC doesn't get into the 24-hour local news game ever again (and I'm not talking about streaming).
  15. Local morning news is back in Mankato on KEYC. KTTC's morning news will remain on KMNF. https://www.keyc.com/2025/06/09/morning-news-weather-are-back-with-kato-mornings/?fbclid=IwY2xjawK0BNlleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHlsKA4yB_bdKgRKXZBPcIStYAORFbjVfP_AtTjNwJTe6enjc9U0s8uNmFVak_aem_5FiTVCpVT86As_ASkdqSYA
  16. For anyone who remembers or is still interested in the work of TVbD (Television by Design), I can probably answer most questions. I was one of the original members that started the company after leaving WTBS. I've only just noticed your incoming links to the TVbD Vimeo page, so apologies for the late response. I'm recently retired and have been exploring the idea of producing a feature length documentary about the work of TVbD in particular, and/or the history of motion graphic design in general. I'd be curious to know what this community thinks of the idea, and if there might be potential collaborators here. Thanks for the mentions and the memories.
  17. Another regional cable news channel is likely coming to an end. New England Cable News (NECN) is being dropped from Comcast cable systems on July 1. Comcast owns the channel and I believe that there is very little original programming airing; it's most simulcasts of WBTS/Boston (NBC O&O) newscasts, recorded lifestyle programming, and infomercials. While owner Comcast is dropping it from their systems, the article notes that other providers haven't announced its removal, so it may live on a bit longer.
  18. More Nexstar stations are adding "Plus" apps to Roku, Amazon and Apple TV including WKRG, WDTN, WJBF, WKBN, WTAJ, WHNT, WIAT, and other middle-market stations. Still some laggards like WGNO and KOLR. Even through the web sites still seem to indicate "delayed streams" of newscasts, they appear to be live now on the apps. About time! Now the question is, will Nexstar put their stations on another app like LocalNow, NewsON or Zeam? They're very much behind the curve in this regard. Sinclair is a little better with total reach on NewsON, and some reach on LocalNow and Stirr, the app they used to run but sold off last year The other groups and even the single stations / small companies like WFMJ, WRAL, WBRZ/KRGV, and KTVN/WRCB also have their stations on standalone apps and stream on sites. Nexstar is getting better but still has a ways to go. So many of the Tribune and Media General stations had better streaming options before Nexstar took over.
  19. Also worth noting, Newsnation was simulcasting KTLA overnight again.
  20. Unfortunately, some of KTLA’s news vans got damaged during the ICE protest/violence chaos yesterday. Hopefully they can be repaired soon.
  21. Wow! Liz Cho on a Sunday Morning! That is wild haha. Didn't they hire someone from KABC to be on the anchor desk?
  22. KTXS has gone anchorless so they can function just fine without a studio. Just stick the weather guy at another nearby Sinclair station like Amarillo. Now, the STL getting knocked down will be a little more complex to overcome. They should be able to pull off at least a cable-only feed with help from sister stations.

  24. Australia After a 16-year run, Network Ten's The Project will no longer be a Project come June 27th. Instead, we'll have a different kind of hour-long news, current affairs, and analysis program that'll air at 6pm after Ten's local hour-long news at 5pm. https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2025/jun/09/channel-ten-cancels-the-project-ntwnfb
  25. GMA will debut their new studio on Monday, June 16th - one week from today. It is in Disney/ABC’s new HQ. Their studio is identical in size to that of The View/Tamron Hall and Live. This will be their last week in Times Square after more than two decades.
  26. It's a FOX thing. Other O&Os have taken a hatchet to their sports departments too. The preference is to have a single dedicated "sports reporter" who turns stories in the field about whatever the biggest sports story of the day is. The days of four male sports anchors in crisp suits above the waist taking turns reading highlights from the anchor desk and a bunch of sports producers are over.
  27. Don’t be that surprised. WTTG in DC cut theirs years ago, even as the Nationals won the World Series and the Caps won the Stanley Cup. Now, they have a sports reporter who does a handful of sports feature stories a week and then beef up coverage when Washington plays on Fox, esp in the playoffs. But surprisingly, WRC followed through and did the same thing in cutting a regular sports segment. JP Findlay (formerly of NBC Sports Washington) does segments for them as warranted. He does more travel w/ the team, but the days of George Michael and the 5-minute sports block are long gone.
