  1. Past hour
  2. Not necessarily. Graphics say First Alert but the weather intros (and even in some weather graphics) and in the set still say Your Weather Authority. WVUE can't decide on which brand to go 100% on.
  3. Today
  4. Probably more future-proofing than anything; if the Fox logo changes or they switch affiliations (or in the future Fox just stops operating on the traditional model), they don't have to change anything physically on the building, and when they take the WBRC baby steps it'll be easier if they decide to drop it in the future. Also like WMTV they can brand it neutrally and equally with GCSEN or whatever else Gray decides to operate out of it (note the extra space beneath the ground sign and plenty of room on the building fascia).
  5. This, and if you look at the tour of the building they give in the newscast, the logos on the glass panels in the production/weather/newsroom areas alternate "WVUE8" and "Gray". The same segment, I noticed "WVUE8" and "FOX8" were used almost interchangeably. Are they in tandem? It is transitionary? Not enough evidence to speculate long-term from what I watched.
  6. It came from this photo of the new building on the FB post linked a few posts back. My guess is that logo was a prototype in case they got permission to drop the Fox branding, and they commissioned the signage before deciding to keep the “Fox 8” brand. The one branding change they did make was the replacement of the longtime “Your Weather Authority” brand in favor of “First Alert”, carrying over (a non-italicized version of) the Helvetica Condensed font and the stylized thunderbolt from the previous weather logo.
  7. Yesterday
  8. Looks pretty damn good on camera. Not sure where this afternoon’s speculation that they were ditching the Fox logo came from. The dress rehearsals of the new set all included the Fox 8 logo.
  9. It may just be since they brand their ABC/FOX as both KOTA Territory, they removed the ABC eye for consistency (Or the Gray Affiliate Logo Removal continues.) I do know GrayONE is coming later this year/early next year. There are quite a few stations ahead of them.
  10. WTVT 70 Years nostalgia KEZI Eyewitness News 1991
  11. The meteorologist named Majestic Storm joined WCNC as of yesterday: https://www.wcnc.com/article/about-us/majestic-storm-meteorologist-wcnc-charlotte/275-5fa6a77b-85c0-4680-829b-5db81fb12d6c
  12. KOTA removed the ABC logo so i'm kinda guessing somethings coming soon
  13. New set and building is fully live. And good news they didn’t from the FOX from the logo.
  14. RARE -- Today Show (Nov 2001) covering the aftermath of the American 587 crash. Post 9/11 colored lower thirds were in use. The patriotic tinted peacock bug was still used. NBC News American 587 crash coverage (2001)
  15. Well they already said if anything breaks severe weather wise while flipping everything over to the new building they are ready to go.
  16. Hopefully nothing breaks in these next three hours (news or technically!).
  17. NBCU will continue to handle ad sales for Versant
  18. Byron continues his renewal blitz: game show Funny You Should Ask will get a 9th and 10th season. https://deadline.com/2025/05/funny-you-should-ask-renewed-season-9-10-1236387816/
  19. That is fair- I could have phrased my last remarks better. Indeed there are challenges for virtually all Fox affiliates getting confused for the cable network- and many ownership groups take different approaches to embracing and deflecting. As for the FB comments, I always remember what one of my managers once told me- that for every comment on socials, there are more followers that were thinking the same thing but just didn't post it (admittingly, I am that type of person when scrolling through FB or X. Here? a bit of a different story.)
  20. Let’s not exaggerate. Unless some were deleted, of the 41 comments on that post (as of this post’s writing), only four make reference to this, and two are from people confusing the Fox network and Fox News Channel. That said, I don’t know if they’re going the WBRC route with the branding (switching primarily to a callsign/channel brand, while keeping the network-centric branding in limited form) or dropping the Fox name entirely, since the post still makes reference to “Fox 8”, including on the standalone and desk monitors in the set pic (assuming that wasn’t taken from weeks ago, and updated graphics with the “WVUE 8” brand weren’t sent to the new control room yet).
  21. The Fleur de Lis is probably the most sacred of all above being referred to "Fox 8". It was a brilliant move by the Bensons when they bought the station, and carried on to this day. And after reading the comments, potentially losing the "Fox" branding is causing some viewers to lose their minds, because they tie it with a certain "news" channel.
  22. The comment section on @TheRolyPoly's FB link has some people calling out the dropping of FOX for the call letters already... And most are not kind. Hopefully someone is reading the early speculative feedback! Agree that when you're on top of the mountain, you need to indeed innovate and stay ahead of the game, but don't blow up what you're known for (read- the branding, the logo) Isn't a Fleur-De-Lis in NOLA like hiving a lone star on just about anything in Texas? Lots of local and regional pride that goes along with it.
  23. That and their iconic FOX 8 with the Fleur de LIs O
  24. Over recent weeks, I have already seen David Ono and Jovana Lara co-anchoring the 4pm and 6pm newscasts as well as Marc Brown and Michelle Fisher co-anchoring the 5pm newscasts. Brown has still been solo anchoring the 11pm newscast. Once Ellen Leyva retires, I presume that will be the official weekday afternoon/evening lineup going forward.
  25. As of this week, Lonnie is back for the 5pm and Evening news, but it seems Vanessa is covering the 6pm/11pm. It could be to ease back into work, and we'll see if Lonnie returns to the 11pm at any point, but I could see this change being permanent. Craig Allen it seems will fill in Vanessa's weekend slots (also glad he has a somewhat regular television gig now!)
  26. I'd be careful of a laundry service or laundromat with that name
  27. I look forward to the power company changing its name to....SpinCo.
