This, a million times over. Even if ratings went down in his absence, it's hard to justify a single salary that eats 5% of the show's (estimated $500M) revenue stream, especially at a time when the your industry is under attack, and a responsibility to accuracy is paramount. Not only did he eat the profits, he's also damaged the greater brands and blurred the thin line between supposed "good" the journalists should be and the "evil" they report on and try to hold accountable.5 points

It’s hard to argue Matt being worth every penny of his $25 million salary. He orchestrated one of the most disastrous transitions in the show’s history which helped cement the end of a historic run for the show. Not to mention he only did 7-9 a.m. and was negotiating at some point to work M-Th only. The craziest part of that is his big salary was negotiated after the show had fallen from its perch.3 points

I recently came across some important information you may want to read. WROC's 1987 news theme, also used by KDKA in Pittsburgh, was composed by none other than John Sutton. This is according to a post by Ron Dylewski on the Rochester, NY News & Television Archive Facebook page. He states: "But I was involved in doing WROC's theme in the 80's and it was not a Klein and Co thing as I recall, it was composed by John Sutton who did the "KD and You" theme for KDKA. The timing seems right. We went to Nashville and did an ROC version, struggling a bit with how to say "Rochester." As I post this, here is another sample of the classic KDKA theme used on WROC in the late 1980s.3 points

Some bigO plabax from 1980 - including a KMTV Skycam promo with “Theme from ‘Firepower’” and a shot of John McDonald anchoring. Also included is a promo for Dr. Dave Iser, who I believe was Dick Fletcher’s replacement when the latter went to WTSP. Dr. Dave lasted over a year before going to WLS. And here’s a WPLG weekend open from 19862 points

Ehhh... At first, I thought it was unfair to either Savannah or Hoda to not have a higher salary; but then again Matt was main co-anchor of Today for 20 years (and news anchor for some months prior), and every penny he's made over those years (even at the points in his career where he was overpaid and when he was fired for being a perv) he deserved his paychecks he worked so hard for. Savannah has been main co-anchor for 5 years and that pay range is perfect for anyone at this level career-wise and Hoda has made huge bank for years for getting and being wasted with Kathie Lee among other things. So... do I think they need to be paid at least a little more at this point? Yes. Are the comparisons between them and Laurer fair and deserving? No, not by a long shot.2 points

I just happened to turn my TV on to METV channel 2 the other day, around 2:45 PM, and Joy and Jaciel were giving a news update from the PPL Center studio during the commercial break of whatever show was on. The backdrops behind them even used the METV logo. I thought it was really interesting.2 points

Ya know, had this all come down in the early 1980s, Ernest could have gotten a job as an auto mechanic to make ends meet. Edit: I think I found an advance copy for the final "90 and 9 Club!" XD2 points

But you CAN get a few hours of "quality time" at one of the Elko legal brothels. I searched it...I clicked on it...I looked at the pictures . Once that newscast is gone...those boys in those northern "cow counties" will have a little more extra time on their hands. Come to think of it... O.J Simpson did his time at the prison in Lovelock...just down the way a bit. Maybe they just ran out of news now that OJ is gone.2 points

Anyone feeling a little underwhelmed by this news? I really thought Willie was on the fast track to ascend into that chair. Also some tricky in the ratings reporting lead Today to a fifth week over GMA in total viewers. They only counted the averages for 2 days. Had they counted the 4 day average (Christmas being the missing day), like GMA did they’d have lost by 58,000. Not much reason to panic but it takes a little out of the Today is dominant without Matt stories.1 point

So did NBC screw Hoda when it came to her new Paycheck? Is NBC really gonna do this to her. http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2018/01/03/hoda-kotb-making-18-million-less-than-matt-lauer-report-says.html1 point

Oh? Okay, cause I read your post as if you didn't. Sorry, I didn't know. And it's really not that interesting (at least to me), because the station has aired news and public affairs shows before, courtesy of former WCAU/KYW anchor and email snooper Larry Mendte. Yes, it is licensed to Wilmimgton, but a license is different from a station's coverage AFAIK. I do agree that these updates definitely do give a bigger reach to across the Delaware Valley.1 point

Did KNXT always use cold opens back in 1973? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=_BN_WXRyFMg;m=3;s=221 point

That's because the company that owns the station -- Maranatha Broadcasting Company, now also owns KJWP -- the area's MeTV station; so the updates can air there no problem.1 point

That lighthouse reminds me a little of the current Scripps ID. Interesting for both of them.1 point

I fully expect the creditors to flip the station should they gain control. Every owner in the Cleveland market is in "buy" mode and aside from WJW and maybe WOIO and "WUAB", this station is the perfect opportunity to expand their news product on to....and why WJW would want to buy them to keep that from happening.1 point
Because it thinks KDKA’s early 80s theme was We’re 4, and they used the same theme as WROC at the time (specifically on the station ID that is in WROC’s open): There’s a KDKA “Renaissance 2” promo from 1983 that used the same 4-note tune at end of it:
I'm pretty sure you and @ChesapeakeTV and @KnoxvilleTVFan are correct on this. I don't think these cuts and opens are related in anyway to the "We're 4" package. Side note regarding We're 4.... I have a sneaking suspicion that Gari or one of his main "go-to" composers was contracted by Klein& to produce the news package back in the early 80's. Why? Because one of Gari's early 90's CD demo samplers, featured a demo image song, un-related to WBZ, that was made for WNBC.... I still remember some of the lyrics...... then the track featured the "Klein&" main news open cut that we're all aware of. Anyway, there's my two cents over We're 4 and such :D1 point

I hope he signs the station over to his bed pan nurse, and it gets tied up in a sexy lurid probate court case. Anyone hear from Donald Sterling lately?1 point

Something that came completely out of left field...the NMSA recently lumped WROC 1981 and 1987 into We're 4, of all things. I guess the question is - where did that come from? Quite frankly I smell something fishy, but I'll leave that call to the experts at sifting through the dirt...1 point

The "failed station waiver" for a company like Raycom is as bad as able bodied people parking in the blue zone . Spend some money now you got a tax break...and shore up some of this smaller run down stuff for these smaller and outlaying communities.1 point
