So we now know what they'll be using WLFM-LD for. WOIO will be launching a new Telemundo affiliate for Northeast Ohio with new callsign "WTCL", beginning January 1st. Still hope they can repeat WOIO on a sub (19.10) on that stick for those in-city folk who can't get 19 on RF 10.3 points

Man, I used to remember Jim Watkins during his days on WNBC. All of New York media was very talented during the 80's, 90's and early 2000's. Those were the good ole days. Lynn White was excellent in what she did while at Pix 11.2 points

I really have to laugh at some of these comments on how WPIX staff was treated 5 - 10 years ago. Today there is are entirely different owners, management that had nothing to do with the past, so assume that anything that is done today is based on prior experiences is wrong - Regardless of what may think, this is a business and if the talent, or product, is not making money, they have the right to change it. I see positive things here - I see that they are trying to improve things - and get rid of any garbage that the inept owners and management team left. And lets forget Jim Watkins or Lynn White - at the end, Lynn White looked like she didn't know what was going on and Jim Watkins - if he is so great what is his history after PIX - WTNH 8? for a short period - I liked Jim, but what ever he did was toxic to his career2 points

Nope. The new logo is very different from the Sinclair-era logo. Although it has the same order of positions, the new logo has that new wordmark inspired from the historic KOMO-TV logo from the 80s, whilst the former used Helvetica, in a style similar to the logos used during the final years of Fisher ownership.2 points

I mean this is the same station that put someone like Sukanya Krishnan on air every AM for 15 years, I don’t trust them to pick talent wisely.2 points

Given WATN is doing it, it wouldn't be that shocking to see WOI do the same tbh.1 point

Between images of WLS & WPVI, and a report of change at WTVD, it appears that the network mandate forced the O&O's to change the logos in network promos in time for tonight's new season. I haven't seen anything from non-owned stations.1 point

'Today' (1982). Loving how sped up the format is at this point compared to the Brokaw & Walters years. Not too slow and not the ADHD level pacing of today. It also seems that they were frequently experimenting with sets. I've seen the blue version of this current set before but wasn't aware there was a brown variation as well. The sets from the late 70s up until the O.G. studio 1a (which was awesome) were all very well done.1 point

Hopefully everyone on this has calmed. The new name has been slightly if not at all noticed by the audience. It's a clean sweep for a move to a new studio. The content of the program has not changed other than one anchor. A nice update that sits well. The use of the Sunday Morning music theme integrated for every morning show works. The audience knows this music as it has been used for over 42 years at CBS. "CBS logo" bug resize and realignment is interesting. Just need to get affiliates to time and temp update.1 point

Many people often associate the theme from KIRO's News Out of the Box era as a composition by Gerard Schwarz. It is not. Although the Seattle Symphony recorded the theme package under Schwarz as conductor, the themes were composed by Mark Haffner, as shown in this newspaper report from the Morning News Tribune: Haffner would later compose the more traditional News Now package, used during the NewsChannel 7 era, and which had the same sonic logo as the News Out of the Box package.1 point

If WEWS doesn't use the new ABC logo soon, they will be the laughing stock.1 point

Considering that KABC ad still uses the current coloring of the 7, I'm not sure that's entirely the final design, but it almost seems like the O&O's are rebelling against the size mandates. WLS just ran a graphic for the upcoming 'Windy City Weekend,' and it features a logo closer to current WABC, who I imagine will also adopt this version. The slightly different circle 7 is straight out of New York, and the ABC placement is sized and positioned in an almost compromise middle ground between what WABC and WLS have been using. Personally, I don't care for it, but I'll adjust. With current WLS over new... Current WABC...1 point

Pizza Hut too, a near-carbon-copy of their vintage logo. I'm OK with that!1 point

Returning to looks of the 80s and 90s is considered the trend right now. See: Miller Lite, Bud Light, Subway, Burger King, and probably countless others.1 point
