  1. My favorite Ken moment

  2. The simple reason for that? The entire font package is included when you have an Adobe Creative Cloud subscription and it looks good (for now). Font licensing can be a HUGE cost and pain point for stations.

  3. They used the low viewership excuse for the RSN'S, WGN America/Newsnation,(twice), the ViacomCBS channels, (which was settled before a blackout could happen) and the AMC Networks in 2012, (even though Mad Men, Breaking Bad, and the Walking Dead were among the most popular shows at the time.

  4. They were shared to me privately, and no offense to anyone in particular, but there can be some loose lips around here, so no. I'm sure we'll see the final product soon enough, and no, I have to idea of the launch date(s).

  5. Gilma Avalos is anchoring with Adam Kuperstein at 5pm tonight. In my opinion, this should be a permenant pairing. 5pm should have 2 anchors.

  6. I and another forum member have seen a WLS open and lower third demo, and a WABC 11pm teaser promo demo, using this style of animation, with the windowed, collage-like imagery, those shades of blue & yellow, and the arrows. The versions we saw used the old ABC icon, as the new one had only recently been revealed, but that's the only key difference.

  7. How do you know that this is the standardized graphics? This could have easily been something just created for KABC.

  8. My thoughts exactly. Some furniture, some trinkets, maybe a plant or too are my preference over soely video walls and a barren set. Today's studio 1a being the best example of this. If they decide to go the video wall route however, it looks awkward to me when we can see the monitor frames on a skyline shot rather than the skyline occupying the whole backdrop.

  11. Bring back in-studio wrestling. By the way, Saturday night is typically the least-watched news of the week for most any station. If WKYC is going to do something different, that's probably the spot to try it.

  12. Truth to be told. Absolutely no one. In the age of streaming and all of that I believe the only way how stations like KDNL and WTWC ever sees newscasts again on their stations is through regional consolidation of TV stations.

  13. I'm all for unconventional newscasts. I don't even know if you'd call this a newscast, but it still a locally produced half hour, and they're trying something out-of-the-box. Were they even competitive in that timeslot until now? If not, then why not try this out? Something irreverent and humor-based also seems like a better SNL lead-in. I was a huge fan of WPIX's 10pm circa 2011. They ditched the set, used their newsroom and a greenscreen, and allowed for more long-form commentary pieces. While this isn't quite the same situation, the principle is the same- offering viewers something (anything!) different than all the other newscasts on at the same time, which are essentially cookie cut from the same news-weather-sports mold.
