  1. I would love to say that's true, but if Nexstar would love to go the 'confidential settlement' direction with Michael Corn to get him out, NewsNation would take Jeff in a heartbeat. HLN is surplus thanks to ID, so I fear another tax purpose sellout to Bill Abbott to bump up GAC Family's carriage (even though it seems like he has no damned idea what to do with his own channel outside Christmas and Valentine's Day; airing 80s sitcoms on loop the rest of the time and trying to start a 'culture war' against your old bosses at the Hallmark Channel isn't a programming direction, Bill!). And I really am not loving that CNN+ is becoming 'where the real news is'; they're giving Sanjay Gupta a show there, though he used to have a show on CNN on the weekends, another thing I hate because CNN used to have a varied non-news schedule on weekend of lots of niche shows they got rid of for docs and murder repeats. Why do they need to launch a streaming channel when they have plenty of surplus time on the main network and HLN?! Also everyone's said it; their coverage of Zucker's firing makes it seem like they lost William Randolph Hearst in a mysterious airplane crash, in his prime. They didn't help their 'pop news' rep at all this weekend.

  2. You know what's also a shell of its former self? HLN. Whoever ends up in charge at CNN either needs to do something about it or let Discovery flip it into something else. Maybe Morning Express can move to CNN+. The company already has Investigation Discovery, so HLN's catalog of non-news programming can simply move over there. While I'd personally prefer to see CNN International get HLN's cable channel, I'm not holding out hope for that. Remember Al Jazeera America? It had to be US-centric to appease cable compnies, not simply Al Jazeera English.

  4. Just chiming in on this thread. Actually, I composed and produced music for 5 Seattle market TV stations at the same time which all ran concurrently. KOMO TV KING TV KIRO TV KTZZ TV KCPQ TV None of the stations were aware I had done most all of their competitors. This is the first mention of it. There were other stations added to the list. WTVD, WTNH, KOVR, WIXT, KDFW and a few others. Thank you for the info. posted on this site. Dan Dean Dan Dean Productions

  5. Exactly. why not make your actual TV channel better? Their reaction to Zucker's firing is giving me Fox News hosts crying about Roger Ailes's passing vibes. Is CNN talent not cognizant of how bad their network actually is?

  6. This might be why Allen is no longer pursuing TEGNA.

  7. Big change at WAVY. Jeff Edmonson becomes the new chief meteorologist as Don Slater becomes chief emeritus (presumably easing into retirement) https://youtu.be/rFgV32hxmYI Congratulations to Jeff on a well-earned promotion and to Don on a fantastic career

  8. New blog entry by Chris Cimino explaining how he got the job at PIX11 and what he's gone through since leaving WNBC Weathering the Changes in Life - What’s Next Chris? (chrisciminoweather.com) Also mentions that he and Marysol will be co-hosts of a lifestyle show in the 10-11am hour. I guess that means that the news anchors won't have to work a five-hour shift anymore. And hopefully it means that Ben Aaron will be gone, since he is best taken in very small doses IMHO,

  9. Thanks for posting, Dan. I think every single person who has said something in this thread (including myself) would say we really appreciate your work. I don't know of anyone else who had that many concurrent campaigns on the air in the same market. A lot of craft goes into making all that work, and this thread exists because we want to recognize the people that produced it.

  11. I strongly disagree. Allen basically lets his stations exist, without putting money in them. Tegna is basically just a bank for its stations, and the stations decide what goes on the air and what doesn’t. My personal fear is that these stations will no longer have the money to keep running, and the cheap*****s at Apollo will just hand it over to dead-end companies like HC2.

  12. Does Nexstar Really think they will be able to compete against the unbeatable WRAL and ABC O&O WTVD? If I were Nexstar, I would sell this station to CBS Already. Raleigh is a growing market and how poor this is proves that either Nexstar has given up or doesn't care. CBS could do so much better if this station was an O&O again.
