CBS as a brand won't go anywhere. It's got nearly a century of legacy on its own. Still... glad to see they went with Paramount instead of Viacom.5 points

Allison Gollust has also resigned from CNN. (As she should.) https://variety.com/2022/tv/news/allison-gollust-resign-cnn-warnermedia-1235183160/2 points

I realize it's a globally recognized brand, but it's the tail wagging the dog.2 points

A change that should've been made all the way back in 1994 when they bought Paramount, frankly. I never understood why they were so wed to the Viacom name, which has always been associated with 'cheap'.2 points

And just as I grew to love (read: tolerate) ViacomCBS lol. This is a name they should've went with the first time (either that or CBSParamount) but personally I'm satisfied with the change nonetheless.1 point

I'm not sure who originally made it either, but I do know that FX Group did the 2002 refresh. http://web.archive.org/web/20080923183829/http://www.fxgroup.tv/portfolio/wtvq/1 point

Random but we’ve still heard nothing at all about Dari Alexander’s abrupt exit. Her Instagram is full of cryptic comments that she is happier away from the desk.1 point

Just what I figured. WGBH's Caption Center did the Cosby captions (and used that "CC in the TV screen" logo). They were one of the "big two" closed captioning producers in 1986. Others like VITAC would come later and take away business from NCI and WGBH/TCC.1 point

I want to thank you, Don Martin -- you've finally solved a huge frickin mystery neither me or @Samanthacould figure out -- the designer of the 90s "spaceship sets", so named because KNXV's Express set from when they began their news op in 1994 was dubbed the "spaceship" in the local press. Neither of us had been able to get any conclusive leads until you posted the name. I've attached pics of some of the spaceship sets Express did in the 90s (they also did at least one Canadian set, for Edmonton's CITV; other spaceshippy sets not seen here include KWGN. WIAT and WDAF). No, the Cleveland Television News sets definitely did have the highway bars. I'm wondering where WUAB's Express set was in the building; analyzing WOIO/WUAB footage of the time, I can't figure out if it was just off the newsroom where it couldn't be seen from the newsroom cameras, or if it was in a completely separate studio.1 point

Morning Joe's hour four debuts April 4. Joe, Mika and Willie will host all four hours.1 point

That will not happen. Joe (possibly both) is a Florida resident so he is required to live in Florida at least 183 days per year. https://www.alperlaw.com/florida-asset-protection/florida-residency/1 point

I miss Larry King Live. If CNN had a LKL type a show with newsmakers, celebs, and take phone calls like LK done over the years, they would've gotten out of the ratings slump. It's just my opinion1 point

Exactly. why not make your actual TV channel better? Their reaction to Zucker's firing is giving me Fox News hosts crying about Roger Ailes's passing vibes. Is CNN talent not cognizant of how bad their network actually is?0 points

You know what's also a shell of its former self? HLN. Whoever ends up in charge at CNN either needs to do something about it or let Discovery flip it into something else. Maybe Morning Express can move to CNN+. The company already has Investigation Discovery, so HLN's catalog of non-news programming can simply move over there. While I'd personally prefer to see CNN International get HLN's cable channel, I'm not holding out hope for that. Remember Al Jazeera America? It had to be US-centric to appease cable compnies, not simply Al Jazeera English.0 points

Most cable systems I've used only have CNN and HLN, in the basic package at least. I'm saying do away with HLN and put CNN I on basic cable.0 points

And move all of the "murder porn" to TruTV....whatever that network is.... They should have never cast off the CourtTV brand, and now it's in Katz/Scripps hands. And like HLN, it also airs Forensic Files every now and then! Had it been a decade earlier, Adult Swim could have gotten it's own network too, instead of being half of Cartoon Network. But back to CNN, it needs a reset, and sadly, it may take another merger or divestiture to do that. NewsNation is trying to make their own mark, and is failing miserably on the ashes of Superstation WGN.0 points

While we're at it can we eighty-six HLN and perhaps replace it with an American feed of CNN International.0 points

Call me crazy, but could the new CNN+ be the eventual replacement for CNN itself? With all of the problems that CNN has incurred over the past decade, it could be a "fresh start" for them. Put all of the investment into the new standalone service and let CNN wither away over time. One day, when CNN is a shell of itself (like HLN is now), Plus takes over what is left and CNN is new again. It gives them a chance to re-negoitiate carriage so they can get the a-la-carte customers and those who still have "Pay TV" however they get it.0 points
