This story is from the Murdoch-owned New York Post. Unfortunately the Post’s track record is such that it merits scrutiny as much as the subject matter itself.6 points

I don’t think anyone is dismissing this but rather pointing out that this really isn’t that big of a deal. He was given the mandate to cut costs, so I can understand him questioning certain things. Norah shouldn’t be making (nor should anyone else) $7+ mil. a year. There should be some shared sacrifice taking place. Plus, it’s important to note that corrective action is taking place which didn’t happen with the previous CBS News/O&O regime until serious damage was done.4 points

While I wouldn't want to work for someone with his style, the investigation sounds like the result of "morale" excuses on the part of those resistant to change. CBS News rank and file are deeply set in their ways and tend to be on the more hostile side to management.2 points

6A would be the best bet. Lease out 8G to another production when Seth is wrapped. Clark's show really doesn't need the excess square footage that it's taking up at Universal right now. The plan to move the show to New York sounds like an economic plan to free up some soundstage space at Universal for movie/tv productions that are willing to pay more $$$ to use it. Also keep in mind that the summer Olympics will be held in Los Angeles in 2028... that Universal space will be needed badly. If NBC doesn't use it in 2028, they'll gladly charge a pretty penny if a foreign broadcaster needs the space.2 points

I’m not defending what nextstar is doing but How many viewers do watch live streaming? And how much money do tv stations make off it? It’s very costly to stream, whatever the viewership was when a station was live streaming its going to drop now there’s a delay.1 point

ABC completely mishandled this and not the two anchors in question? There’s equal share of blame to go around. Amy and TJ showing a complete lack of judgement as public figures is on them.1 point

Maybe not fired, but certainly reassigned. It's hard for them to deliver objective news of the day when they, themselves, are the topic and attention of the news.1 point

That’s exactly the problem. The Post has an extremely polemic reputation as a right-leaning paper, and Fox News has pushed an anti-CBS agenda dating back to Bernard Goldberg’s falling out with the network a generation ago. So even if there’s a possibility it might be true, there’s also a good chance people will dismiss it as little more than a hit piece.1 point

Sad news out of Birmingham. If you grew up watching WBRC-TV in the mornings, you remember Country Boy Eddie. Gordon Edward Burns "Country Boy Eddie" passed away yesterday at the age of 92. Burns hosted "Country Boy Eddie and Friends" from 1957 to his final show on New Year's Eve 1993. https://www.wbrc.com/video/2023/01/14/remembering-country-boy-eddie/ https://deadline.com/2023/01/country-boy-eddie-dead-alabama-tv-star-who-gave-dolly-parton-tammy-wynette-chance-was-92-obituary-1235221916/1 point

But it shouldn't be dismissed either. The LA Times piece about KYW is a good reminder about it too. The Post may be doing a hit piece on Khemlani and CBS, but it doesn't deny the fact that CBS is always one step forward and one step backwards at the same time.1 point

Agree! Really hope they build out a nice new set to use up all that great space and keep it functional for some versatility in shots.1 point

They had not started work the last time (about 2 weeks ago) I walked by the studio. I do know that it was been completely cleaned out so it's ready for work to begin. The studio is big enough for more than just a weather center, so I'm hoping they really take advantage of the space.1 point

With all the talk about NBC's late night future and Seth Meyers becoming Lorne's heir apparent at SNL, Studio 8G could open up, or they could redo 6A and eradicate the last traces of Megyn Kelly. New York would happily offer tax subsidies to support Kelly because there's no way she tapes at Stamford without making her and any guests extraordinary offers to deal with the drive up I-95 in a way Steve Wikos guests tolerate. I'm surprised it was Kelly who was open to it, though, probably because California's COL situation is overall painful, which is why she's in Montana when she can be.1 point

I had my doubts given past celebrity talk show failures but these two shows much like Kelly Clarkson have proven to be solid.1 point

I've been dipping in and out of KCAL Mornings. The product has improved, but I'm still loyal to KTLA. One thing I'm a little confused with is the weather lineups. Olga has been starting off from around 4-8am. Then Alex Biston or Mary Yoon will come in for a few hits during the 8 and 9am hours. Olga returns for the 10 at 10. I know Paul Deanno is coming to the station in February. Just seems a little odd for Olga to return on the back end. I'd like to see one consistent weather personality for the early AM and another consistent person for the later news block. The 7am-10am block with Jamie Yuccas and Rudabeh Shahbazi is the strong suit of the new launch so far. As they continue to solidify their brand, Jamie and Rudabeh can defintiely be a solid #2 in local mornings. I really like their chemistry.1 point

This seems inconsequential. My boss is condescending to me from time to time as well. Hardly worthy of a headline.1 point

Honestly, none of this is surprising. Bosses, regardless of the industry, are often jerks and Khemlani is no different. Morale has long been a problem at CBS News so it will take a significant amount of time for that to improve and constantly cutting resources/people only slows that process. Since his contract expires next year and baring any ‘serious’ allegations, my guess is that he survives this and retires. There doesn't appear to be enough currently to justify dismissal.1 point

There is discussion over moving production of The Kelly Clarkson Show to the NYC area: https://variety.com/2023/tv/news/the-kelly-clarkson-show-production-east-coast-1235489006/ Can't help but think that NBCU's Connecticut facility is an option.1 point

What the f**k is going on at The Tiffany network?! How many s**tstorms do they have to clean up around that big eye? IMO, Neeraj needs to go!1 point

I've never heard it as an open, but WLS used it in a promo campaign in 1984/85-ish.1 point

Past the 1:45 mark, you get to see the closing of NewsWatch 4 from Denver's KOA-TV (now KCNC) from 1980. The news theme package was TuesdayG from Tuesday Productions. Wasn't too long before NewsWatch4 was rebranded as NewsCenter4 later that year.1 point

I’d like them to come to some solution sooner than later. Radar and Variety are reporting that GMAers don’t want Amy and TJ back. We shall see what happens but Rhiannon Ally and DeMarco Morgan are making a nice competitive pairing as the replacements.1 point

I'm sure morale is low so any news of a win can be helpful to the staff. (I love the way the table looks to be that anchor's left shoulder.)1 point

WESH newscast from September 1990, with one of the clunkier slogans I've heard. It didn't last long, the slogan that is. Also one of the only newscasts I've seen outside of New England that opens with the lottery numbers from earlier in the day.1 point

Khelani didn't seem that bad to me, but I guess pushing Norah out the door could've been a sign maybe she got some dirt on him.0 points

It seemed like he wanted to get rid of Norah O'Donnell so badly, but was overruled. That alone is a red flag. I will say that I am not sure Brian Williams would have boosted ratings for the Evening News.0 points

They tried to drain the swamp at CBS News & Stations but based on their recent hires… kinda feels like they’re right back where they started. In some ways, I hear it’s actually worse.0 points
