As of this morning, Sunday Morning has received a new graphical intro.4 points
-
And the new opening (I saw it earlier) has the CBS News name as part of the title again, just like it was with Kuralt and Osgood.3 points
-
The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced they should just rip the bandage off and rename the network to differentiate it from the "old" CW.2 points
-
Both parties are happy with its performance, so it'll probably continue.2 points
-
I'm glad "CBS News" is part of the logo again. Didn't understand why they took it out.2 points
-
No, the cheap international imports were always part of the plan, I think.1 point

I read this as “They’re not expecting the writers strike to be ending quickly, so let’s import stuff to air - even if it’s available streaming” [because we’re Nexstar and we don’t believe in streaming]…1 point
-
Maybe we’ll get lucky and next week they’ll be back on set.1 point

These light elevator music/pharmacy themes don't work. Is WCBS in last place? I'm curious to see the numbers. The station was really on the right track from 2007 to about 2015/16ish. This light corperate jingle doesn't work for a place as gritty and fast paced as NYC. ABC 7's theme captures the right essence. Power, force urgency, much like CBS 2's mid 90s theme.1 point

A nightly 7PM sports show was added this past week, with onetime Met Nelson Figueroa as a co-host: https://pix11.com/sports/ny-sports-nation-nightly/former-new-york-mets-player-nelson-figueroa-joins-pix11-sports/1 point

Agreed. Looking at WTVJ around 1992, you really see the 'SVN effect. In my own bias..As someone who got up really early mornings for work, and hearing many journalists talk about the negative sleep effects of 2 AM wake ups, I'm not so set on early morning live broadcasts.1 point
-
You know what, that’s a good point actually; I’m sorry it skipped my mind. To be fair though, WSVN does air a repeat of the late news during that time, so those viewers do still get relatively (depending on the story) up to-date news, even if it isn’t live.1 point

I know Dimensional (or at least, the one cut most of the stations use) has a bit of a relaxed vibe that doesn’t mesh with the other NYC stations, but it arguably works ok for WCBS. Channel 2 isn’t nearly as tabloid (for lack of a better word) as channel 7. Eh, Idk about that; it’s not like they’ve gone full-on WSVN-style tabloid with their story selection just because of a music change during the open. Although, there is a problem in that the music sounds really awkward when the headline is about how nice the weather’s going to be like.1 point

One of the plus sides of an anchor suddenly leaving a station is you get to see different faces in new places. At WABC, it’s been nice to see Sandra Bookman and David Novarro in the morning on some days.1 point

I don’t know that it’s fair to through WCBS in the same category as KCBS and WBBM. I think they’ve worked hard at recovering from the 1996 massacre and having become a competitor again. The new music may work for some stations, but it’s too light for New York. It’s why WABC has stuck with the 1999 version of the Eyewitness News theme. The version KABC uses is way too light for NYC.1 point

Local news (especially top 5 markets) provide stability and a great income. Not everyone aspires to be on National Tv News, living out of a suitcase and flying from city to city. Some would argue you may even get more name recognition as Top 10 Local Anchor at an O&O than being a field reporter at a National News service.1 point

IMO it's better they don't start the newscast at 4 AM, at least from the talent's point of view. I like that they rerun the 11pm broadcast at that hour. If this pushes Sherri Shepherd down one hour hopefully it knocks Byron Allen's fake Justice with Judge Mablean off the schedule---(even though I love her). It's strange that a market with such leisure and culture as Miami/Ft Lauderdale doesn't have a lightweight morning newscast. Even the 9am hour on WPLG and WFOR are straight news. (Not counting Deco Drive or 6 in the Mix). Looking at the quieter overlapping market West Palm, Fox 29 is straight news from 7-9. WPEC and WPBF are also strictly news at nine. Thats five hard newscasts at 9am in South Florida.1 point

There could be a thousand reasons why someone would move to a local station from a national one that don’t involve pay. When it comes down to it these are still people and despite the minor fame it works exactly the way it would in literally any other job.1 point

WXYZ can get away with that with no station slogan and the alternating designations WXYZ, 7 and Channel 7 used interchangeably in their advertising. They’ve been using those three as their main branding since the 1970’s and maybe longer. CBS has the problem of it being too new and sharing call letters with WWJ 950AM… they already brand themselves starting with WWJ. So this is very unlikely.1 point
-
I don’t think they will use call sign as branding. It’s a new news operation and they don’t think people will recognize it from call signs.1 point
-
It is sad knowing that they're stuck on the blue screen set (because the Paramount+ sports show took over that side of the old studio); but to be honest, I still don't mind the show being pre-recorded. Excluding people like us, no one would've really payed attention to the switch from live to not over the past 2 years.1 point

I'll believe it when I see it. I imagine they're using this as a bluff tactic to get more money from cable/satellite providers0 points
-
They could've noted that before they made the music final, and get a custom cut then. When you go with random themes based on 'vibes' you lose the trust of those who build the newscast out and the average viewer who is just over every time period having to lead off with doom and gloom because of one guy's decision to be out of compliance.0 points

There’s a good reason why WCBS, WBBM, and KCBS are all in last place in their respective markers. All are a complete and utter clown show. On the other hand, we can clearly see why all the former Westinghouse stations like KYW, KPIX, KDKA, WBZ, and WJZ are all the better performing CBS O&Os based on their handing of the new CBS I&O graphics rollouts.0 points
-
Because WCBS is lost and doesn't know what to do and doesn't know what there doing.0 points

I think this thread is losing focus and becoming a list. In the end, an employee was let go for using a slur about a coworker at work (presumably) to another coworker. We can do better than trying to figure out whether the woman deserved to be slurred by her coworker at work.0 points

WCBS also uses this for some bumpers. Why ditch a new package designed to connect the station to the network with cheap somber church bell production music?0 points
