Howzabout we cut back on the random time slot drops until stations release/announce their full schedules, closer to fall? And when that starts to happen, someone can create the 2023-24 thread, and we can close up this topic.4 points

Meet the Press will NEVER be what it was when Tim Russert moderated the show4 points

As far as the sucessor for Welker on Saturday today- my best guess would be someone from NBC News Now or NBC News Daily. Those individuals seem to serve as minor league players cutting their teeth until a big network opportunity comes up.3 points

It will be interesting to see if MTP will improve under Welker. While I'm sure Chuck is a good guy, he was never that great of a moderator, and I know people from across the political spectrum were critical of him. I figured Welker would be promoted eventually after moderating a presidential debate. While I don't think anyone can replace Tim, hopefully Welker's an improvement.3 points

https://deadline.com/2023/06/chuck-todd-meet-the-press-kristen-welker-1235404310/ Todd will depart in September and will be succeeded by Welker - Chief White House Correspondent, co-anchor of Saturday Today and his MTP Now co-host.2 points

I obviously have no experience running a cable network, but as a viewer what I think Licht needed to do was: -bring back the CNN Newsroom look for dayside -stop mega focusing on one subject -keep Trump coverage brief and non-partisan -diversify network coverage outside of politics, climate change, and the usual stuff -Allow some CNN International material to air domestically (during the daytime and night) -get rid of problematic commentators and keep opinionated content (if any) in primetime to compete with MSNBC and FOX. -have that primetime opinionated block me a mix of conservative, liberal and independent/libertarian voices - poach *good* ex-jornalists (I'm talking like Ann Curry or Elizabeth Veargas *both too good for CNN* not Chris Cuomo)2 points

I'll admit I was surprised Wood TV aired ES.TV seems it's repeats than new content even when the guide says it's new yeah, it isn't a good show Byron would be smart to put music videos for 30 minutes than ES.TV in my opinion.2 points

I'm surprised that WBNX hasn't put out there fall schedule yet since there always the first to release what will be on for the fall, even know I don't live in Cleveland.2 points

I get the feeling that the VPN routing traffic within team territories for MLB.tv is much more than the number of BS+ subscribers. I'm sure the numbers for Tennis Channel Plus are also miserably low and starving that sport for exposure they've been losing for over a decade.2 points

Well, this is interesting. Tonight they're trying something totally different in the 10pm ET and later hours. Instead of the normal Fox Weather @ Night format with tons of pre-recorded interviews and features, tonight they are doing a full nationwide weather synopsis for the full half hour, hosted by Kelly Costa in Orlando (guess the Orlando studio isn't dead after all). This is reminiscent of the overnight content that TWC used to do back in the 90s and early 00s. No interviews, no features - just a constant in-depth examination of the weather. I really hope they keep this up. Best nighttime format they've tried to date.2 points

Certainly the best thing at this point would be for executives to stay 100% behind the scenes. If I never have to know a TV station/network's executive or general manager outside the context of image campaigns or editorials, that is a very good thing. This is 100% junk news about people we'll never see on-screen yelling at the people on-screen (except with payroll screws to turn rather than just pointless yelling).1 point

Being a Sunday political show moderator is usually a pretty big job and requires a lot of prep work, and sometimes traveling to get certain interviews. Being tied down to the anchor desk on a Saturday could get in the way. Plus, they would probably want to keep her available on most weekdays to serve as an analyst.1 point

If the Post is to be believed, CBS may be looking to sell the Broadcast Center and find a new location to buy or lease. https://nypost.com/2023/06/04/cbs-mulls-sale-of-its-west-57th-st-broadcast-center/1 point

Long overdue but hopefully this will be a good change. I would’ve preferred someone who is actually independent and a true moderator, since Chuck has blurred that line, but those days seem to be long gone. It will be interesting to see who they chose to replace Kristen on Saturday Today.1 point

It's official. He'll be replaced by MTP Now co-host Kristen Welker after his departure in September. https://deadline.com/2023/06/chuck-todd-meet-the-press-kristen-welker-1235404310/1 point

Yes, Susie Gilbert, which I believe is her real name, and Shawn Ireland, which is not her real name (I believe it's Pam Gilbert), are sisters. Which begs the question, what did they call Shawn Ireland at work? Did they call her Shawn or did they call her Pam? Calling her by her stage name in real life is kind of weird, but if they call her by her real name, they might screw up on the air. Incidentally, I've seen signed checks from the actor Eddie Albert signed Eddie Albert, even though his real name was Edward Albert Heimberger. There's a Heimberger Road in Fairfield County and it's named after his dad's side of the family. Even though Eddie Albert wasn't from here, his dad was.1 point

If you're an Apple News+ subscriber, you can read it there too. And yeah, I agree - this article is pretty damning for Licht. Not a good look at all.1 point

WCBS news promo for father and son meteorologists Storm and Frank Field. WWOR 9 News (2001) I didn't realize Rolland Smith kept working into the mid 2000s. Really like his vocal delivery.1 point

Yeah, MLB clearly had well-founded contingency plans for this scenario, and it’s impressive that they were able to put something that polished on the air in such a short time. Honestly, even if the Padres find a permanent OTA/cable partner, I could see MLB continuing to produce the games.1 point
-
The surrounding animations around the standard MLBN graphics set for the Padres sure seem pretty easy to adapt for any other team. Guessing MLB made a quick and dirty set to have ready and perhaps something a bit more bespoke would be rolled out next season. Maybe with a full-on MLBN revamp that’s needed, IMO.1 point

Like tonight's documentary, other series, and most WWoD movies, content that first debuted on Hulu or Disney+ gets the small ABC bug. It's not permanent, at least not for now.1 point

I actually noticed it last week when they were airing “Shang-Chi”; I figured it was a one-off but I guess not I think it’s an improvement; the old bug was far too big imo and I found it distracting. People watch TV to see the programs, not to look at the bug.1 point

I remember that and the "Fox 28 Kids Club" well during my summers in Columbus. (At least Yolanda Harris made out well for herself. But what happened to Suzy? ) Back to topic: yes, Stadium is like the Wish version of ESPN 8: THE OCHO if that were a real thing. But it's obvious what Reinsdorf is going to do. The White Sox/Bulls (and maybe the Blackhawks) will be on their own network in '25 and Comcast can wind down NBC Sports Chicago (though I'm sure some would prefer the return of those teams to WGN-TV).1 point

Sinclair always had a fetish for leveraging content. It makes sense if they use three stations' resources to do something one station couldn't do on its own, but if you're going to take the same cheap product and just eliminate duplication by doing it once, I don't know if that benefits you much. Here's an example of something from the 1980s when they tried to do a kids show called "Take 1" for all three stations they owned.1 point

The seedy underbelly of sports is out in the open. It didn't really occur to me that gambling was driving much of the interest in sports until the internet came around and gambling became more omnipresent.1 point

Ironically, Akron's basketball team is probably the best sport they have. As for the rest, it proves your point exactly. The school actually cut their baseball team a few years back, and they've actually debated about dropping out of the Mid-American conference to go FCS. They're one of those schools that falls short of ticket sales, so they have to buy up all of the unsold tickets just to maintain attendance standards to be an D1 FBS school. And to actually watch Akron, it's usually buried on ESPN+ (along with the rest of the MAC) while Stadium truly airs more of the FCS teams and conferences we've likely never heard of!1 point

Look at the sidebar and ticker with extremely inane and degenerate gambling figures and statistics from Bally. Outside of direct friends or family and university students that are only there to watch the game, their viewership is either the lowest of the low bettors, oddballs who refuse to watch paid sports networks for some reason, or sports bars that need to fill one of their eighteen screens during the day.1 point

Another factor for the sale; WFLA and WTTA share UHF High 9. WSNN is on UHF 26. You move that transmitter to Riverview at the same height as the full-powers, and you've got a solid UHF signal serving the most important parts of the market to simulcast WFLA and WTTA and can keep WSNN's main signal in 720p (safe bet they dump all the Scripps subchannels which already air on WXPX). WSNN already news-shares with WFLA, so there may be no on-air changes outside a transmitter move and having WSNN cover the non-prime slots (including the presumptive 10pm WTTA show) in lieu of WFLA.1 point

Here's an odd bit of irony: iSpot says that while prime time is in the gutter, daytime TV, including syndication, is actually growing in terms of ad impressions and share of linear impressions.0 points

So with Rachael Ray leaving, what is the likelihood of WABC and WPVI moving GH back to 2:00 and either adding a 3:00 newscast, or adding a 10:00 AM newscast with Tamron Hall moving to 2:00 or 3:00?0 points
