Am I missing something? This isn't a long-term problem. CBS has a plan for the 12:30A slot, but those plans are temporarily on hold due to strikes. So I do not understand why returning time to the affiliates is even being mentioned. As for a comparison to 1984, that isn't exactly comparing apples to apples. There were three commercial networks and PBS. So to compare almost 40-year-old programming choices doesn't seem relevant. But that's just my thinking. Technically, CBS still does. Let's Make a Deal runs at 10A Eastern. However, some affiliates have chosen to air it later in the day3 points

I'm sorry, but this is "one step forward, two steps back" for Nexstar and DirecTV. The "Mission Broadcasting owned" stations have been dark on DirecTV (satellite and stream) for almost a year now, when it's obvious that Nexstar "operates" these stations. Nexstar is clearly double-dipping with TV providers when it comes to retransmission fees, and the FCC should really do something about it.2 points

If I were in charge of an ABC station and it was getting MNF back even for a season, heck yes, I'd be happy. It's a heck of a lot more sellable as an established brand to my local clients than some of the other programming. Is it as good as SNF in terms of matchups? Of course not. But while I'm still saddled with the Bachelor and Dancing with the Stars et al, a primetime marquee sports franchise back on my air, temporary or otherwise, is a win. Meh, times change, circumstances change and the world doesn't stay frozen in 1984.2 points

Sky News UK or Sky News Australia? BIG DIFFERENCE. If the former, that'd be great, if the latter.... Maybe that's self explanatory!1 point

Would that be best, or did the station have data that says otherwise? 3 pm for Y&R feels like a big stretch that would need some compelling business rationale, which isn’t “but Live feels like a morning show.” It is light fluffy entertainment well suited to mornings, but light fluffy talk can work in afternoons.1 point

The best alternative would have been to put Kelly and Ryan at 11 and Y&R at 3.1 point

Back in the early-mid '90s WANE-TV in Fort Wayne, IN would also air "Live" in the afternoon. In fact it may have been a 4pm lead-in to their 5pm news. Can't recall what they aired in the 9am slot.1 point

Ok, but just.. why would you do that? Unbelievable scheduling. Before the debut of The National Desk, I know they placed it at 9 but just.. why 3? You could atleast join the PACIFIC feed (because The Price is Right is at 11/10c).1 point

Not really seeing that as all that much of an issue. If they were doing well with Live at 10, great. It may be unusual, but seems pretty understandable.1 point

We have a battle in St. Louis headed to the courtroom.... Gray is suing Tegna for using the phrase "Weather First Alert" on KSDK while KMOV has been using "First Alert Weather" https://www.stltoday.com/news/local/crime-courts/kmov-sues-ksdk-over-branding-for-weather-alerts/article_032d25a6-5668-11ee-ad8c-1b6661b82814.html1 point

I just gotta re-emphasize, wow. The Mornings at 10 show is really nice. Such a great show! It's been on for about 7 days now, what's nice about the show is that it really shows the personality of the presenters and in some ways, we get access to see really what the on-air staff thinks. It's just a more relaxed show. And I absolutely love the chatter between the presenters during and in between stories too. Really is a nicer vibe. We get to see them weigh their opinions on the topics a bit more. And in some cases, there are sides to the reporters and presenters that I've never seen before up till this show started so really nice work WABC for really not just delivering more in-depth stories that are compelling but allowing the presenters to put a bit more of their own spin on it. I hope they also allow others to sub in as well. So refreshing for WABC! Today we saw Nina Pineda's side and view of the story they are very real. It's like "Happy Talk" that we all know and love but on a whole other level. As alluded to in an earlier, post, while it's not a show that is intended to be groundbreaking or high in the ratings, it's still a great show for the office too, or if you are at home working, you have it playing in the background and streaming. It's reminiscent of the "View" format where the hosts themselves share their ideas and thoughts on the story and even during the live reports you can see more time spent and you just hear more of the input of the reporter which I think is great but still holdings on to the Eyewitness News live reports. Maybe they can evolve it more in the future, maybe do an "on-location" broadcast or have it outside or in different parts of the city. I really hope they play around and try different things with this show, either way, it looks great! Kudos to WABC for putting this great show together! Mike, Shirleen and Sam are a solid group.1 point

And there was a plethora of amazing entertainment at 12:30 am? They don't need to give the time back at this point. Whatever strike filler there is, it's not really a big deal. The networks have given plenty of time over the years, and they're also in business to make money as a network. It's 2023 and the business models need to reflect that reality. What was that, All in the Family reruns?1 point
-
At least back in 1984, CBS affiliates had that time slot to themselves. So many crap shows are on the air simply because the networks won't return time to their affiliates.1 point
-
I'm surprised CBS didn't opt to run repeats of procedurals like they did back in 2014-15 when they were last between hosts for either late-night slot, or, even better, just keep the Late Late reruns going indefinitely.1 point

Vanna White is staying on with Wheel of Fortune as cohost for the next two seasons (through the 43rd [2025-26]), along with a sweet pay raise. https://deadline.com/2023/09/vanna-white-wheel-of-fortune-new-deal-season-41-pat-sajak-1235550608/1 point

According to the Futon Critic ABC will only be airing Monday Night Countdown on December 11 and on Christmas and before the Saturday games. They were already scheduled to air a game on 12/11. So that would mean only two more Wheel preemptions the rest of the football season after this coming Monday, with one of them being on Christmas night. King World probably put their foot down. http://www.thefutoncritic.com/showatch/monday-night-football/listings/1 point

What happened to my post? I swore I posted that WXII delays Today 3rd Hour and Hoda and Jenna by an hour to air Kelly and Mark at 9. And that sister station WYFF doesn’t air Hoda and Jenna at all. They also air Kelly and Mark at 9 and 3rd Hour at 10 and a random syndicated program at 11am (currently Dateline). Maybe I forgot to hit send. Same thing happened yesterday when I thought I had mentioned the handful of affiliates that aired GL at 10am in the mid 2000s.0 points
