Exactly what I was coming to say. Teresa has been screwed over more than once there. And I don't see Bianca as an evening anchor type. Very odd. That said. I learned about this change from Teresa's IG story feed.2 points

Not a good move from a fan prospective. The MLB does better than Bally's when it comes to producing the broadcasts, but their pay to watch structure has been a pain for DBacks and Padres fans. Rockies fans will experience the same thing. It's just as bad as Bally Sports. But with Baseball, TV deals have to become more expensive so teams can build up a higher player salary. The Dodgers are able to build a super team because of their TV deal with Spectrum. The MLB at some point needs to enforce a salary cap if they don't want to lose fans. That way, teams can cut an easier deal with local TV stations so games will be a more available to watch on TV. And it will be more competitive across the league so teams like the Dodgers don't reach the World Series every year.2 points

Will they expand The Noon and 6pm to a full hour? It makes me sad that they never think about promoting Teresa Priolo.1 point

this is such an interesting choice for cohost in the morning. I like him on NFL sunday Bianca Peters, who has been co-host of "Good Day New York" since the summer of 2021, will transition to co-host of FOX 5’s "The Noon" with Chris Welch and "The FOX 5 News at 6 p.m." with Natasha Verma. https://www.fox5ny.com/news/curt-menefee-good-day-new-york1 point

So Curt Menefee and Michael Strahan are Sunday colleagues, but will be competitors (in New York, anyway) during the week. Interesting seeing more of this Sunday NFL/weekday morning crossover. Can't forget Nate Burleson on CBS either.1 point

He did sports there way back when, so this is a full-circle moment for him: edit: According to Rosanna, Bianca's being moved to Noon and 6PM:1 point

Inside info. This info came from someone at CBS. As for Ronnie leaving, can’t get into that. Sorry.1 point

Oh great. Now where am I going to find out the latest in vinyl flooring or mortgage rates?1 point

Actually, their ratings are still climbing. They beat WXYZ in some major demographics. I would stay away from certain boards who all they do is complain and quite frankly, don’t know what they are talking about. Jeff Skversky had to go imo. He wasn’t that good if an anchor and he was becoming a cancer in the newsroom. This and moving Terrence Friday to evenings is one if the main reasons why the evening newscasts have drastically improved.1 point

The major issue I have with the editorial is it focuses too much on all these Big Four issues, when the major problem are these subfarm broadcasters like H2/Edge/DTV America, along with Coastal and WRNN that should be operating stations in the local interest, but instead have bought out stations to turn into subchannel farms of absolute low-effort IPTV crap run by the same kinds of people who have made the Internet an advertising hellscape. Or with Coastal and Sinclair, have completely garbage newscasts recorded during studio downtime that are viewer-repellant. Edge Spectrum has been tolling out CP's for nearly 6-8 years with no intention of actually broadcasting, while H2 has wound down networks for filler crap like Timeless TV and Vision Latina and absolutely refused to be competitive. Even Tegna, Scripps and Sinclair are complicit with this, as outside Ion the rest of their channels are reality glurge only there for advertising slots, and instead of multiple networks like Twist dying because there's nobody watching, they're being replaced with more things nobody is watching. There should be a local broadcaster running these stations, and the religious broadcasters should be serving their community. They aren't, and the FCC is at least trying something. I understand the justification being the Main Studio Rule repeal, but there should be some kind of local programming on these stations, and not just 'I called some NPO to drone 20 minutes about their stuff, we're good' malicious compliance. There are YouTubers in those communities that could probably fulfill those guidelines better in themselves. Just stop consolidating and racing to the bottom, broadcasters. You see what happened to radio; don't try to even venture near that result.1 point

Not surprise she is cutting back her time (with her husband in FL and all...). Sounds like she's not ready to retire and they figured out a way to keep her on board. Good for all involved.1 point

Another example of WSVN "influence," this time from a station Canada -- a bit subtler than the ones above, but still obvious:1 point
-
No. You can still be creative while expressing today's design languages. Having 3D elements doesn't make it a guarantee that it'll be "creative" if one doesn't understand how its supposed to work with the design.1 point
-
Have we reached the point where all graphics are so flat and generic that there's no creativity anymore? I say yes. I mean, the former example from Italy is a blatant ripoff, but can you blame them? (yeah, you can blame them) But still, I want some 3D creativity in my sports graphics!1 point
-
Yes because y'all are forgetting that Raycom (now Gray) owned KASA from 1999-2007.1 point
-
I wouldn’t call these rip-offs. They’re numbers in a specific font - that’s the same as saying WJLA’s circle 7 logo is a rip-off of WABC, KABC, KGO, WLS’s logo, since WJLA isn’t an ABC owned and operated station... A rip-off isn’t using the same package as another unrelated station. A rip-off is trying to create a similar looking package (usually on the cheap), but not pulling it off well. For example, this KALB newscast open (not sure if it was used on air or not): https://youtu.be/dLlFpX68s68 at duplicating the WNBC’s 2010 open: https://youtu.be/5Mk0FFM8nrE IMHO is a distinct ripoff... No. This isn't a knockoff. It's a standard. This is like saying WNEM's graphics are a CBS O&O knockoff because it's the same package. Fox stations around the county use this logo we call it the 'Fox Box'. If you're going to blame KXPI for using it, then blame the dozens of other Fox affiliates who've used it as well. I will point out that the biggest inconsistency here is '5' font.1 point

Was WESH that cheap in 1986 to where they weren't able to get the "Come Home" package from their own network and instead made their own "Come Home" graphics in-house? I thought those things were free for them. I would expect this in a small market affiliate, not in a mid-sized one like Orlando was at the time.1 point

KSN's open from the early 2000s look like a ripoff of WTVJ's open from 1997 and they use the same music as them.1 point

From what I could tell on the West Mass News Open vs the WABC open, the color scheme looks very the same as WABC but obviously the way WABC did the open is totally different compared to what Western Mass News did. A good example of that would the way the animations of the graphics is done at WGGB vs the way WABC does theirs. My conclusion is that yes it's syndicated but because of the way the color scheme looks the boxes are used for one third of the screen in the beginning the news open, you could say it's a ripoff but I'd say its 50/501 point

Now...that's pretty blatant and speaking of ripping off of CBS O&Os...1 point

That ain’t a knock-off. It’s the real deal from the FTS Graphics Hub. Also not the first time they’ve helped out a non-O&O either. Though what they did have before was definitely serviceable for that market.1 point

Posting this in as I believe the graphics KHBS/KHOG used in 1994 were similar to the ones WNYT’s 1988-1991 “News 13” Package was (I’ve seen pics online of their GFX and they looked similar).1 point

This isn’t really a bad open graphics-wise, but when you use the voice of tabloid TV news alongside a very mellow-sounding news theme, you get a very mis-matched news open. Hubbard would later make more bad choices for their TV stations’ imaging in the years to come:1 point

Who cares? I've seen tons of old late news opens that use daytime shots.1 point

It was Electronic Graphics and Design of Dallas (which I know did WVIT). Not much exists of them these days even in print materials. And this video has a couple examples; WEAR being ripped off by WTVY (both in this video) and WJHG thinking it's in Baltimore... 1 point

The problem with Wichita is that the eras are scattered - KAKE has plenty from the 80s while KWCH has plenty from the 90s. As for KSNW, it’s the same as KAKE, yet the annoying part is that their 1986 newscast has no music on the open. KUTV of course has nothing at all, typical Salt Lake City. Peters, I think, wasn’t responsible for their mid 80s theme, but KUTV’s 1979 theme sounds a bit more like their work.1 point
-
Now that we have KSNT (though with painfully wrong music), so begins the search for one of my holy grails: the rest of the Hatch look of the mid-80s, with Welch graphics and set and potentially Peters music. Where shall I find it first, Salt Lake City or Wichita? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFYCcIcYp1k1 point

I would argue that in some ways it's a prettier package than the Scripps variant. The royal blue really works in their favor.1 point

Agreed. (In my defense, I've had this username at various incarnations of this site since 2000. Christ, I need new interests.)1 point

I think it's supposed to be a rip-off of the Ch-8 in Fort Bragg, CA that used to do some news way back in the dark ages. Psssst... Nobody in Northern California says "Norcal". Yes, it's acceptable to say "Socal" when referring to all counties south of Santa Barbara....not to be confused with "Soquel" located in Santa Cruz County. Just like no sane native Californian would ever say "Cali". Hollywood screws everything up.1 point

Not sure if the other stations did the same but CBS 2 brought in the weekday morning anchors to anchor this Sunday morning. Not much snow in the city and Long Island, but some places did get some accumulation. They also had a bunch of reporters in the field, including weekend morning co-anchor Doug Williams. Interestingly, John Elliott and Tony Sadiku swapped roles this morning. Since joining a few weeks ago (not including holiday fill-in duties), Tony has been in the field while John handled the regular studio work.0 points

That's odd. I just watched NBC broadcast the All-American Bowl which used the new College Football/Basketball graphics so that look is definitely not tied to the Big Ten or Notre Dame exclusively. Makes no sense why they would do this with the Atlantic 10. Basically shows that NBC Sports views that conference as lower production value.0 points

Sam is clearly phasing his way into retirement...first he gives up the 4:30-6 portion of the morning show, then the noon..he's now only doing the 6-7 portion of ENTM and mornings at 10, as well as the cut ins during GMA I believe. And he seems to be also taking more than just Friday's off as of late. Per his Instagram, he's regularly on the beach in Miami just hours after the noon show on many a Thursday.0 points

That's not a knock off. It's been syndicated (see below). If there is any confusion about what a knock off is, it's a secondary graphics package that looks like another design originated at another station. Likely the package is executed horribly if it's meant to mirror the design completely (see WNEM) or has clear elements similar to an original package, where there is no mistaken identity for inspiration (See WSMV).0 points
