That was a coding error in Ross OD. I made stingers (like you saw play out) and I made “open stingers” that sting out after the open seamlessly…the coding was swapped and that’s what occurred. Thank you. This has been a dream project. I was literally given the keys to drive the whole thing without any interference from other management…just “how can we help.” and hat tip to Matt Quinn, Tristan and team for letting me version it out. They all deserve a big hat tip as well. They give us the tools to build masterpieces.

A call sign change (which won't happen to begin with) won't change the fact they're stuck with a standalone AM they can't sell, with demos older than dirt.

Those game show hosts also came from other fields. They were not sent down from on high to become game show hosts from day 1. Alex Trebek’s own book details how he wound up where he did.

I don’t think so. The role of career game show hosts made more sense when game shows were in greater demand by the networks to fill out the morning and afternoon hours. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with having people who don’t strictly host game shows do just that; to me, comedians are especially great in that role. Keep in mind, it isn’t anything new. Dick Clark was primarily known as an DJ, not as a game show host. Alex Trebek was a CBC DJ before he hosted game shows. Pat Sajak was a local weatherman. The only modern example of a career game show host that I can think of is Jeff Probst.

Warner Bros./Telepictures has ordered True Crime News for 2024–25, with Fox picking up the show for its stations. The show's concept sounds a lot like the original 2015–16 format of Crime Watch Daily, which was also distributed by Telepictures/WBTD, when Matt Doran (who was replaced by Chris Hansen for its final two seasons) was the original host.

True Crime News sounds like Crime Watch Daily, I did like the format for season 1 of Crime Watch Daily with Matt Doran I don't get why they dropped him for Chris for the last 2 seasons of Crime Watch Daily. Kinda sounds like it is more a test run for fall 2024 maybe more TV station groups will sign on for True Crime Daily. I think what hurt Crime Watch Daily being canceled was a failed merger between Sinclair & Tribune in spring of 2017 as Tribune was the station group that signed up for the show in for the 2015 syndication season. I apologize if this isn't a thread I should have posted this.

Mission's stations were pulled from Dish in early January 2023, so 54 weeks have passed between the start and resolution of the dispute. Mission's dispute with DirecTV began three months before the Dish dispute.

Comics Unleashed has been syndicated on some of the O&O’s for a while. But that wouldn’t have been a bad idea to only have After Midnight run for 30 minutes like the original and then kept a run of Comics Unleashed at 1:07.

WSAZ is on the list and will get GrayOne very soon from what I've heard!

If it is from GrayONE, the graphics would use Barlow as the font as that is the font choice for GrayONE. Its possible that the graphic was done in house and was designed so it would match with their existing graphics as well with GrayONE, so it could be used the end of the election cycle.

In a way, Drew Carey could be considered one. He's hosted TPIR for far longer than his namesake sitcom from the 90s.

Seems out of place for a DMA such as Reno.. I'd easily see this in a top 50 market... But nonetheless looks sharp.. I wonder if WDJT will get this, seeing that they liked the previous O&O look

KTVN is one of those DMA #100+ stations that just refuses to behave like one. Great look for them. Sounds like they got a new set, too?

Yeah, I remember how ecstatic we were when this graphics package debuted in 2008. It wasn't their best and there were other stations that had better graphics, but that was also the year when many TV station productions have "gone HD" What an era haha. That was their Giant Octopus package, which was very "Shiny" in that era when we were transitioning from SD 4:3 to HD 16:9. I remember the bugs would always be further centered in the screen to accommodate the 4:3 video feed but now that most people do not have 4:3 the trend seems to be to move the bug further to the right.

They are the first to use Warner Chappell music with the package too.. This was a very well deserved upgrade for KWQC

I like the use of more than two colors, gives it texture. Good thing they didn't go with the all red package!

The CBS owned stations have picked up a new Jaleel White hosted game show, The Flip Side, for fall

KWQC finally made the switch to GrayONE, and it's probably the best implementation of the package thus far.

Someone else, perhaps you, also talked about WABC's NY Post look and feel. As for tabloid, I would love to see what Sunbeam would do with NYC station lol. As others have said, their look must be deliberate, because it's hard to believe the #1 station in the country would be that aesthetically clueless. Especially considering sister stations KABC and KGO look so much better in contrast. Jim Gardner not Vance I should say. This was perhaps WABC's last decent graphics package:

Studio space might not be an issue. KDNL's old studios at 1215 Cole Street were up for sale last year, as they jumped ship to Brentwood, MO where the Allman Report was being filmed. If Scripps and/or Weigel wants an in town studio that's turn-key, 1215 Cole is it. https://www.loopnet.com/Listing/1215-Cole-St-Saint-Louis-MO/27232037/ If we are "news saturated" that seems to be news to people here. A quick look at any newscast that KMOV has proves a lot of news is being left on the table. KPLR isn't really producing much of anything, other than essentially a rebroadcast of the previous KTVI newscast. It's leaving KSDK and the Post-Dispatch to find rest of the news out there, but they don't have the resources. We need another functioning newsroom. Spectrum News doesn't really have any sort of obvious presence.

If ABC was truly that concerned about St. Louis, then the affiliation would have been taken elsewhere a long time ago. ABC could have even bought a station and started their own news operation if they were that concerned. But, I think they know St. Louis is news saturated and doesn't need another newsroom. They don't have to be "happy" about it, but they also know there's a slim chance that the affiliation would end up on any of the existing news-producing stations, and it's not worth building a new one.

From that era you mentioned, as simplistic and unremarkable as it was, this was probably most their decent set. The early 90s graphics wern't great compared to WNBC but it worked. Arguably the best set this aestetically troubled station had was the steps look from the 70s.

That’s actually putting it lightly. Drew Carey and Wayne Brady certainly never set out to be game show hosts any more than the “career game show hosts” have. I remember watching Drew’s interview with Alex Trebek for a game show documentary; his initial reaction to the offer to host TPIR was something along the lines of “I don’t want to host that old man’s show.” Of course, he’s become such a natural at the gig that you’d never know that if he didn’t say it.

I've always viewed WABC's visual format as a take on print-tabloid aesthetics. While the newspaper age definitely on the wane, in a lot of aspects NYC is still a tabloid town, especially among working class people. The large text probably doesn't hurt with an older demographic either. While I haven't been a fan of WABC's previous looks, I kind of got what they were going for: legibility, bold flat colors, a general "punchiness" - a loud look for a loud town. This new look is a nice 30 year time warp to the present, but still within the realm of WABC's overall visual tradition, can't complain!
