  1. Nate also hosts the NFL Today on Sundays and is filming a game show for the network. He might not want an extra hour of working.

  2. Sade did a great job. (Funny to see from that 9 minute clip reel, though, how little the anchors are really doing over the course of the two hour show. Definitely not Charlie and Diane's GMA -- but that's nothing new.) It's certainly no coincidence that a WABC anchor was tapped to fill in on GMA -- where plenty of network correspondents would be happy for a chance to fill in -- after Debra O'Connell took over ABC News.

  5. They really need to go back to letting style and content decisions be made at the local level. They can control the budgets still but each station knows more about how to connect with its area than some suit in Cincinnati. If they decided to do hard news emphasizing breaking news and investigative stuff it would go a lot farther. The business doesn’t need to be reinvented. It needs to get back to the way it was 20 or 30 years ago. And a lot of that is style and writing. That stuff is nearly free.

  6. The ghost of KidsClick has bit Sinclair, their sidecars, and six of Nexstar's stations in the ass when they least expected it. Fines have hit Sinclair, all of their sidecar stations, and Nexstar's KDVR Denver, KIAH Houston, KTLA Los Angeles, KTXL Sacramento, WGN-TV Chicago, and WGNO New Orleans for a program-length Hot Wheels commercial during the kids program Team Hot Wheels. TL;DR - Sinclair has to pay up $2.65 million, Nexstar's six stations have to pay up $26,000 each, and Sinclair's sidecars have to pay up $20,000 each. All in all, its a combined $3.3 million fine. https://docs.fcc.gov/public/attachments/FCC-24-88A1.pdf

  7. https://506sports.com/ once again breaking down maps for the upcoming season in terms of TV coverage and its freaking amazing. Here are some updates though for Week 1 (I'm only doing week 1 as an example)... Yes, tonight's game in Brazil is only available on Peacock, unless you live in Green Bay (WGBA), Milwaukee (WTMJ), or Philadelphia (WCAU). FOX has the doubleheader this week to kick off the season: FOX Early Houston (KRIV) and Panama City (WPGX) switched on Thursday from the Steelers and Falcons to the Panthers and Saints. Providence (WNAC), Springfield, Mass. (WGGB.2); Portland (WPFO), Bangor (WFVX), Scranton (WOLF), El Paso (KFOX), FOX Alaska (KTBY/KATN.2/KJUD.3), and all Montana FOX affiliates switched on Thursday from the Steelers and Falcons to the Vikings and Giants. Des Moines (KDSM) switched on Thursday from the Vikings and Giants to the Titans and Bears. FOX Late Tallahassee (WTWC.2) and Baton Rouge (WGMB) switched on Thursday from Cowboys and Brows to Commanders and Buccaneers.

  8. Interesting… I’d like for affiliates to have a choice if it’s only a half hour… Keep Y&R at 12:30 and run B&B and Gates from 1:30-2:30 and syndicated programming at 2:30. Or hourlong news from noon-1pm, Y&R from 1-2 and the two half hour soaps from 2-3 but I know that will never happen

  9. Reasons why there’s a less than 0% chance of “mandating” carriage. They already take up more of an affiliate’s schedule in daytime than ABC & NBC, so getting another hour is a non-starter. Now, if they were to (this is not a serious proposition) cancel Y&R, you could make that case. Or (slightly more so plausible) if they sent Let’s Make a Deal out to pasture. Or (perhaps most plausible but not for some time) if The Gates fails to get out of the gate on a good footing, that could be an hour to claim for the morning brand expansion. But the idea any affiliate group is ceding an hour back is just not reality in 2024.

  10. Tegna has picked up Mavericks rights. Most games will air on KMPX, while WFAA will simulcast 15 games. KMPX will shed its Estrella TV affiliation and become an independent station.

  12. WBBM, KPIX, WWJ, and my hometown CBS station WFOR will all give up their 9:00am news to carry the third hour of CBS Mornings, known as CBS Mornings Plus. KCBS is the other one carrying it but local news there in the morning is on KCAL instead. https://www.nexttv.com/news/tony-dokoupil-adriana-diaz-to-host-cbs-mornings-plus?utm_source=Listrak&utm_medium=Email&utm_term=Tony+Dokoupil%2c+Adriana+Diaz+To+Host+‘CBS+Mornings+Plus’&utm_campaign=TVB's+Abby+Auerbach+To+Retire

  13. With that, the 9am news tends to end, doesn't it? (Except Los Angeles)

  14. The trouble with some media columnists, analyst, etc... (as of late) is that they tend to be just as bias as those they accuse of showing biases. Personally, I didn't care much for Darcy (who at one point blamed Licht for CNN's ratings woes months AFTER he was gone). And I agree Shelter can be a lot. Hopefully he stays 'grounded' and sticks to the newsletter and limited on-air appearances.

  15. This is not terribly surprising, as I have seen more of Stelter on CNN in recent months. He's polarizing to some, but Stelter is great at media analysis, which there is not enough of, in my opinion.

  16. He is returning as Chief Media Analyst. Won't be hosting a show but will be providing analysis and running the Reliable Sources newsletter he started. His return follows Oliver Darcy's departure.

  17. Nice. I Prefer the previous set but this is good. The View is great at working flexible video walls in with permanent set pieces. More TV programs need to get learn this--- a barren space with massive screens isn't good design. GMA needs to consult The View folks on set building. Same with Today!

  19. It looks massive. Look I hate that ABC is leaving its UWS and TS studios but if you do them as well as what we see here, it’ll be hard to stay angry.

  20. I really love this set. It's big and open like the early 18th season set, yet as inviting and personable and as warm as-- no, make that warmer than the set of mid-18th season onward. And it's definitely giving Midtown loft like the sets of the single-digit seasons. I so can't wait to go to a taping now.

  21. Compared to the People images, they've amped up the warm tones, for air. I really like it.

  23. Indeed. Although ABC/Disney is feeding out its debate coverage to their competitors as a public service, it's still a business at the end of the day. Thus, ABC potentially still stands to lose quite a bit of viewership, whom otherwise would be watching the debate on ABC, given DirecTV's large subscriber base.

  25. "Where are the cameras?" - Jim Fowler Hopefully they'll replay the last Pat Sajak episode before Ryan Seacrest takes over on the 9th. I haven't watched the show regularly in years but having Ryan Seacrest host it is very "meh" to me.

  26. Here's a problem. GMA3 airs at 1 PM (ET) on ABC and most NBC affiliates air the four hours of the Today show from 7-11 AM (local time) and NBC News Daily at 1 PM But neither ABC nor NBC has The Young and the Restless, which CBS is not going to move out of its midday slot. Furthermore, CBS's new soap The Gates seems to be headed for a 2 PM (ET) slot. So affiliates could air their 9 AM newscasts, run the CBS Morning 3rd Hour at 10, and move Let's Make a Deal to 3, which I don't see happening. And in the Central time zone it's common to have a 9 AM newscast followed by The Price Is Right at 10 and Let's Make a Deal at 2. Where do you put CBS Mornings 3rd Hour? This is never going to go on most affiliates; I remember that, before CBS forced WFMY to carry CBS's Saturday-morning newscast, they handed it off to their subchannel and will do it again with the new daily third hour. CBS's third hour in the morning is intended for the o&os and the subchannels so most of you will not see a change on your CBS affiliate's main channel. To use one of my two local CBS stations, WFMY, as an example: the lineup will still be: 4:30 AM The Good Morning Show (local) 7 AM CBS Mornings 9 AM The Good Morning Show (another hour) 10 AM Let's Make a Deal 11 AM The Price Is Right 12 N News 2 At Noon 12:30 The Young And The Restless 1:30 The Bold And The Beautiful 2 PM The Gates (I'm assuming this will be its timeslot) 3 PM The Good Afternoon Show (local, replaces DBL) 3:30 Daytime Jeopardy!

  27. I think CNN has three options. 1) tow the centrist line that NewsNation is doing but lacks the brand recognition to pull off. 2) Fully adopt the leftist partisanship that is making MSNBC more successful. 3) Ramp up international coverage to make it America's go to source for world news. Bonus ..or CNN could just go away Again, CNN's top problem (in primetime at least) is that they lack on air personality that can develop an audience and sell products like books and podcasts. Fox News and MSNBC excell at this. But to CNN and Fox's credit they attempt to break away for headline coverage unlike MSNBC which is nearly all politics (Trump).

  29. You’re absolutely right, and it’s sad. It’s almost a glorified simulcast of domestic at the moment, and that’s sad. Much of the international output that does air comes from flash sets, which just makes it look cheap. And why do they only use London, which has IMO the most gorgeous set, for only 3 hours a day?! I remember when 7 or 8 hours a day came from London. Now look at it… sad! Hong Kong is only used very occasionally, when there is no one available in ATL or LDN. Kristie never presents anymore, just appears as a reporter. Despite all this, for me, CNNI is still the best of a (very!) bad bunch. BBC News is just unwatchable since last year’s changes, and Sky News is just so DULL to watch. If you like your newscasters sat in front of a corridor, they’re your guys! I used to watch a lot of Al Jazeera but I think it’s become really biased in recent months. So I’m left with CNNI. I have hope that someone, somewhere, someday will a) remember CNNI exists and b) realise the potential it has to be profitable. You’d think, as the channel that INVENTED 24 hour news, that they’d know what they were doing. But it seems they don’t.

  30. Today--September 3rd (yesterday for you East Coasters) marked the 30th anniversary of the first of the massive network affiliation switches thanks to Fox acquiring NFL broadcast rights. Cleveland was the first market make to the switch, where longtime CBS affiliate WJW made the switch to Fox, while WOIO took on CBS after nearly eight years with Fox. Nine days later, Kansas City conducted its own network switching, with WDAF going from NBC to Fox, and KSHB doing the reverse.

  32. CNNI is a shadow its former self. They let go or many walked anchors and reporter are gone. So anchor and reporting team is quite thin. All the major reporters and anchors are all gone. The dont have really many reporters in Africa. I dont know of anyone is South America. YOu never seen any reports from their. The Hong Kong Broadcast site is basically shuttered. Krisit Lee Stout is apparently still there but there is are not programmes presented from their. Andrew Stevens is gone. Its like a ghost town. Becky Anderson seems to be the only person in Abu Dhabi and there is only her programme that comes from there. And the channel has some original shows but alot of domestic simulcasts now. When a major story happens the International anchors are shelved in favour of the US domestic anchors. CNN is nothing like it was. WHo remembers THe WORLD TODAY and INTERNATIONAL HOUR. Alll the actual news hours are gone in favour or political talking head bobble-fests every hour. They were so stupid to shut down Headline News. Now you have 1 billion rolling news channels that stepped into that role. Like Scripps News and NewsNation. That was the dumbest move. They should have just reinstated the old school Headline News with the tight 30 minute wheel. "Around The World in 30 Minutes This is CNN HeadlIIIIINNNNE News." Al Jazeera English is the international heavyweight now. And the BBC of course. BUt they recently merged their 2 news channels into one channel and only when there is signification domestic news, the UK will opt-out to a domestic stream. SkyNews is a big international player. But they are sister to NBC.
