I wonder what new technology will be brought forward for the new KUSI set. Will they have a flat screen TV3 points

For the late night games you figure that the West and Mountain time stations are good with it, and most of the Nexstar and Sinclair CW base is pre-empting filler like True Crime News and The National Desk, and had enough time to bump their local coverage to their MyNet sister or to the DT2 subchannel. As for the Fox stations it can only really help their coverage since they don't have to rush footage and pack editing suites to get their entire segment done, so it gives everything more time to breathe, and worse comes to worse, any pre-emptions have a full two days in overnights to be covered. And for Fox's O&Os they've begun to push their late newscasts to Fox Local on-time and a replay after the game, so at least for them there's no extra pain or having to wait until midnight to get on-air. For other groups with sister stations, things like "First on Fox" and "Most Wanted" aren't aired and the Big Three newscast is repeated late, or centralcasters like Coastal had the show well done outside weather before the game even started. The thing I don't get though is why Fox hasn't killed the Saturday late night hour. No SNL rival is oncoming and you can't keep justifying a reality show repeat these days in that slot. And they might as well put Weekend Marketplace out of its misery already because the little money it makes when it does air can't even be a lot these days.1 point

You know Broadcast TV is circling the drain when the networks (Fox & CW) are airing college football on Friday nights. I get it maybe the first couple weeks, but this is a bit much. Friday nights are for high school football and I'm sure the affiliate stations that have newscasts (with extensive high school coverage) are not too happy about it. And with the Sinclair CW stations that do high school football on Friday nights... Do they send the NASCAR race that airs right before packing (in the eastern markets) in favor of their Friday Night Rivals game?1 point

Unfortunately, the entire state of Florida, even Tampa, is becoming expensive to live in.1 point

You have to realize that Miami DMA is only 3 counties with one of them, Monroe County being the Keys and a mostly uninhabited swamp on the mainland. Plus, Miami-Ft. Lauderdale area is the highest COL in the state and many middle class have been priced out of there and moved to Orlando and Tampa areas. Tampa is a much bigger DMA overall in land size and had explosive population growth post-COVID from many Northerners and South Floridians.1 point

I copy and paste them from a picture of it so my phone might have mis-translated some one the words I noticed it read the lowercase L in “Tulsa” as an I so when I copied the text over, it says “Tuisa” but everything was spelled correctly on my source documents. i can promise you it’s all very legit.1 point

Not on the level of Weeters, but as a mod, the top-4 market sections were created in a much different time. The industry was healthier and the demand for it on this site was greater. We've also always had reasonably strong Philly representation to warrant its existence. New York and Chicago conversation is similarly active. Los Angeles, admittedly not as much, but leaving out market #2 would've been weird. I'm just not sure we have the interest for such a channel for individual stations in DFW. We had briefly kicked the tires on a Texas section, but that wouldn't be my call.1 point

Channel 10 Australia late news (9/11/01) Just as people were going to to bed down under, news of the first plane crash hits at 13:18. Ironically at 20:00 there's a chocolate bar ad featuring a man who is sucked out of an airplane window. Interestingly, the second plane crash is not shown as 10 going to commercials.1 point

By the end of the decade, DFW could very well be the #3 market in the country, which would be a big change.1 point

This is legit and corroborates with some other information I had previously gathered. @MarkBRollins88_v2 is it possible to get DMAs 201–210? Wanted to also add some context. I've been maintaining a database of ADI and DMA rankers that goes back to 1968 (the concept of exclusive markets itself only began in 1966 with Arbitron and 1967 with Nielsen). This is the first time AFAIK that Philadelphia has not been market #4. Dallas–Fort Worth was ADI #12 in 1968.1 point

Yeah Bank Gothic was like one of the hottest fonts at the end of the 90's. No knockoff there.1 point

As for WSIL, they used a font/logotype that other stations used - KHTV/39 in Houston used a similar (of not the same) 3 in their 39 logo. Back in the day, your options were more limited, mostly, since you didn’t have millions of fonts to chose from - and everything was edited by hand, be it using something like ChartPak rub-on letters or film/pictures from a typesetter to create ads. As for WPSD and WKMG, they both use the “Local #” branding, possibly from the same creative design agency, but the fonts and obliqueness of the graphic are distinctly different. For a better example, compare WCBS, WBBM and KCBS’s logos, or any of the numerous ABC Circle-7 logos...1 point

I don't know if it's already been mentioned here, but there were traces of WOIO's 1995 package in adjacent market WFMJ's 1996 look... The most apparent was the Weather and Sports intros...using a weird hybrid of scrolling Helvetica on top and Bodoni on the bottom spelling out "WEATHER" and "SPORTS" Here's WOIO.... and WFMJ.... Got to love adjacent markets ripping each other off. Columbus stations were easily accessible in Dayton, likewise with WOIO being available in Youngstown (since it was their default FOX affiliate until 1994...and still available post switch until the late 90s after WKBN started their own affiliates...)1 point

I’m guessing WBOC used the KMTV/KRIS Giant Octopus package and later kept butchering it...1 point

They could add more newscasts on the main kcal 9.1. For example, weekdays from 1-4pm. Move the court shows to kcal 9 plus - 9.6 or kcbs. Then, everyday from at 7-8pm. They're have so many family feud episodes airing everyday. Currently 7-8pm daily, plus 11pm till midnight weekdays. On weekends, they can add early afternoon newscasts from 3-5pm.0 points

In a way, the graphics seem like an evolution of Griffin’s previous standardized package with major improvements (better animations, fully streamlined typefaces, slimmed down tickers, etc.) Elements of the package also, for some reason, reminded me of the 2016 WFTV package. They also replaced the Enforcer cuts that had been used since the introduction of the 2010 graphics and standardized KWTV/KOTV logo design (I never found out which series they came from) with cuts from a more recent series of the package. (Curiously, until it moved to the downtown OKC studio, KWTV mixed those Enforcer cuts with leftover cuts from Image News that were still played on occasion during segment preview bumps.) The only issue I have is the sizing of the “Oklahoma’s Own” slogan in the bug, which is too small and probably could have had the possessive “Oklahoma’s” broken into two lines so it could appear remotely legible within the bug. The ticker font also could have been made slightly larger, and the text speed of the tickers used for the morning shows and sports segments could be increased a bit. (I also have minor quibbles with 1) the wind speed in the current conditions graphic being listed as a range, a la in the forecasts, rather than the observed sustained winds, 2) the current date in the extended forecast, which could have been left out, and 3) the separation of the dialogue boxes containing the time/date and legend on the radar and forecast models, despite there being little space between them.)0 points

I know unfocused conversation threads are frowned upon here, but this might be a solution to markets where there is noteworthy activity but not enough to justify individual station threads. Unfocused conversation threads somewhat already exist. We have threads about station groups where the goings on at multiple stations are discussed. Example: if major changes were happening at say WFAA unless you start a whole new thread, one would have to post it in the Tegna thread. That might not be relevant because it doesn't affect the whole company just the station.0 points

@MarkBRollins88_v2, I'm seeing a number of typos (such as "Serasota", "Molbourne", "Balimore") in your initial top-30 post. Are you sure you didn't get that list from an unedited draft? Maybe it's time to merge the existing top-four boards into a single top-five or even top-ten board.0 points

In a In a letter to coworkers and viewers that was read on air this morning by co- anchor Brandon Walker , WWL-TV morning anchor Eric Paulsen announced he has cancer. He didn't say what type of cancer it was but said it was very aggressive and treatable. Paulsen also said he will be on medical leave for a few months and is confident he will beat it (he has been off the air since last week). He will return to on-air duties "when his hair grows back." (That is SO like Eric )0 points

So, I've noticed since last week that WSB has been airing a 3:00 newscast, but my guide says still says that Tamron Hall is on at this time. Did it move to another channel or timeslot and they didn't update the guides?0 points

Looks like they tacked on a 4-430am newscast, too. Or has that been around for a bit? Bringing the 3pm back only for elections is ridiculous. Make a decision … are you going syndie or are you going local? Also … WSB is airing Judy Justice at 1 in the morning?!? No one else in the market wanted to pick that up? What a waste.0 points

A friend pointed out to me something interesting today. Around noon ET, it was Inside Politics with Dana Bash. Nothing unusual there, right? Due to the (second) Trump assassination attempt, CNN International carried Inside Politics as well. But CNN Max didn't, instead staying with the usual CNNI output at that time (One World). Which begs the question: why produce today's edition of One World, a CNNI show aimed at a global audience... and only show it to a handful of viewers on Max? It makes no sense. I know CNN Max can't simulcast too much of CNN domestic in case the cable companies get upset. So in that case why can't CNNI viewers get the output that we normally get anyway? I think they would have covered the shooting attempt just as well as domestic, if not better. Seems CNNI is on its way out. I'm convinced that as soon as WBD are able to turn CNN Max into a full-on CNN simulcast, they will do so, and end CNNI with it.0 points
