  1. I"m still surprised that Sinclair agreed on an affiliation agreement with CW post-Nexstar to begin with. It's things like this that may put a future agreement into question. At least Sinclair has grown to the size (and networks hold their ground enough) to where we don't have the mass pre-emptions on a major network (like ABC) anymore. Like the Nightline pre-emptions of 2003 and 2004 and the whole Stolen Honor situation.

  5. Sinclair would be foolish to pull this with any of the other major networks they are affiliated with, but Nexstar's CW is still going to be a punching bag, especially for a rival broadcaster like Sinclair with similar (ulterior) motives...

  6. Longtime WLOX anchor David Elliott is no longer at the station after supposedly expressing his political views on the site formerly known as Twitter https://www.sunherald.com/news/politics-government/election/article294546944.html And it is refreshing to see a newspaper not only still covering local television, but to be holding firm to the standard that anchors (and other journalists) should not express their political views, period.

  7. I've always said that major storm coverage seems to have a permanent impact on Fox Weather's schedule afterwards, and it looks like Helene and Milton were no different. Judging from last weekend and this weekend, all weather programming on weekends after 2pm ET has been discontinued and replaced by returns of Park'd nonstop until live programming resumes the following morning. Awful.

  9. That would be incredibly disappointing if they took John off of weekday mornings again. He basically is the life of that show. Sure, Tony and Chris are great, but it all seems to revolve around John. I agree with you that team weather always felt gimmicky, and yet I liked the energy it brought. But it was kind of telling that they'd never have someone fill in for one of them if either was off. It's hard to imagine any other interpretation of this, though. They edited him out of the promo, and even shot the group shot with and without him months ago so this must have been in the works the whole time. I'll have to say, if this is what it looks like and John knew, then he should be commended for being the most team player of team players. The way he hyped Tony and everyone else up... Just amazing on his part. Do we think this is effective immediately?

  10. CBS News New York has updated the recent morning promos to remove John Elliott. I first noticed this today. Sorry for the poor quality photo, but you can see here that the group shot includes the two reporters, Mary Calvi, Chris Wragge, and Tony Sadiku. Previously, this shot included John as as well. This feels deliberate since they must have taped a version of this promo with and without John Elliott. One version of this promo had Chris Wragge saying something along the lines of “I’ve known Mary for 20 years, I’ve known John for 15 years, and now I feel like I’ve known Tony for 10 years.” This version has been updated to remove the line about John and just mentions Tony. Now what? No more “team weather” in the morning, which felt like a gimmick anyway. Is John Elliott out, or back to weekends, or something else? John was last on air Thursday doing team weather with Tony, and Tony was in Friday and is in again this morning with Craig Allen still on medical leave.

  11. I like this idea. It feels like they're afraid to stray from the AMHQ branding (for ratings purposes, idk?), but having the show end at 2pm ET is just silly at this point. I remember back in like 2021, if Jen and Alex's show ever extended past 12pm ET due to severe weather/hurricane coverage, the 12pm ET hour would be run as an unbranded hour instead of AMHQ, because they refused to push the AMHQ brand into the afternoon. Funny how that's all out the window now.

  12. I would've split America's Morning Headquarters into two 4-hour shows instead of having it run a whole 8 hours under one singular name, but maybe that's just me. Have AMHQ be from 6-10am (5-9am Central) while re-titling the 10am-2pm (9am-1pm Central) block as "Daily Recharge" (a weekday version of Weekend Recharge).

  13. Schedule shakeup: Beginning Monday 10/28/24: AMHQ: 6am-2pm The Weather Channel Live: 2pm-6pm Weather Unfiltered: 6pm-10pm Storm Center is no more as confirmed by Jacqui Jeras Facebook post. I'm excited they are expanding weather into primetime again and moving Weather Unfiltered there. I've always loved that show and it makes sense to move it to primetime. One thing that does not make sense is AMHQ going into the afternoon. It is a morning show. They should just do The Weather Channel live or better yet bring back Weather Center: Live. We'll have to see on Monday what The Weather Channel Live will be and who is going to be the meteorologists. But the best news is we're getting more Live Weather Channel hours regularly for the first time in YEARS.

  14. Well, previously The Daily Report started its headlines from studio 47 and today they started from 57. Probably the CBS Evening News will return to 47. I had some expectation that they would do the CBS Evening News from studio 1515, like they do for election coverage.

  16. Looks like the set we were speculating for is dead. Juliette Goodrich posted on her Instagram Story they were prepping for the election night rehearsals from the virtual studio, I noticed something was off and it was more bigger than the first Virtual studio. looks like they built a secondary virtual studio but more bigger. You can see the portion of the old temporary set which was the existing previous set that was used when they were in transitioning before full chroma key newscasts. The newsroom set is now only used for weekend mornings and Noon RPReplay_Final1729744848.mov

  18. Honestly this isn't too bad, though I like the heavy graphics and walk around format, I think they way they went was just too cluttered, I hate to say it repeatedly, but when it comes to video walls, the Europeans do it best

  19. The morning edition of CNN News Central is much lighter on the graphics and videos used on the walls of the studio this week. There used to be multiple graphics, charts and video boxes displayed for most stories. Apparently the inspiration for the format were the CNN election night broadcasts. But now it's very stripped down. I wonder if this is the result of budget cuts/layoffs (the people needed to design the graphics and run the extra graphics in the control room), though it seems strange to do this right before the election in two weeks. Perhaps some of the usual staff is in election night rehearsals. Meanwhile, the afternoon edition has been mostly at the desk. They've been doing this a lot, but I feel like they sometimes go back to the original format, tough I'm not certain how long it's been since they did that.

  26. Netflix named its announcing teams for their Christmas Day games... Noah Eagle and Nate Burleson will team up once again, this time with J.J. Watt joining them, for Steelers vs. Chiefs in Kansas City. Kickoff time is scheduled for 1pm ET. Noah's dad Ian will call Ravens vs. Texans from Houston, with Greg Olsen as his partner. Game time from the Space City is at 4:30pm ET. Production for both telecasts will be handled by CBS Sports. Rich Eisen and some yet-to-be-determine studio analysts on loan from NFL Network will handle the studio show coverage. Because these are streaming-based broadcasts, Steelers-Chiefs and Ravens-Texans will also be seen on over-the-air TV in each team's home DMA. KCTV in Kansas City confirmed that they're airing the Steelers-Chiefs game in its region, and more than likely because it's a CBS O&O, KDKA in Pittsburgh should air the game in its home market. Assume the same in Baltimore with WJZ airing Ravens-Texans, and in Houston on KHOU.

  27. Realistically, John couldn't really devote his time to both Evening News and Daily Report. That said, I don't understand the vagueness concerning the move to Evening News. Simply saying you're joining the evening news team could mean anything. I could be wrong, but it feels like a lot of mix messaging going on. That's the impression I got also...the move to 57 is temporary. But if I'm being honest, is there really a need for a new set? With some small adjustments, 57 would work out fine, imo.

  29. Interesting he said "Even when I join the evening news team, I'll be in this actual studio for a while", does that mean that CBS is planning on using 57 at first once the relocation to NYC happens, then give John and Maurice a new set?

  30. Let's just take a moment to celebrate how far CBS has come aesthetically. That newsroom looks great and I love the brown accents on the graphics package. It reminds me of Katie Couric era CBS Evening News. I would argue CBS News now has the best sets of big 3 broadcast networks. I don't recall WCBS or CBS making a formal on air announcement of John and Maurice taking over CBSEN. The OG press release also described Margaret Brennan as leading the political coverage whenever news breaks. I'm curious to see how this dynamic will play.

  33. I wonder if it makes sense to have local news on at 10pm, run national news at 10:30pm (perhaps ABC News Live Prime, NBC Top Story, CBS Daily Report), and have the late night talk shows come on at 11pm. I also think this would be an opportunity for the central and mountain time zones to have the same airing times from 8 to 10 PM, and let them program the 7 PM hour with syndicated fare.

  34. John Dickerson said goodbye to "The Daily Report" on CBS 24/7 yesterday. As expected, he will be preparing for the CBS Evening News. I don't understand how they said he would be doing both anchor roles. (The Daily Report and the CBS Evening News). I noticed that Dick Brennan is doing the 5pm news on WCBS and he doesn't say he's filling in for Maurice like he normally does.

  35. Good point. They already program their streaming channels during that hour, so why not do the same with news on the main network? Let affiliates opt-out, if they prefer to fill with local programming. Look at NBC News Daily, which took over the 1 p.m. hour about two years ago, pushing Days of our Lives to streaming. The 10 p.m. hour is probably easy to fill for duopolies with FOX, CW or My Network TV already in the mix, as many of them already provide news on those affiliates. As the economics of television get difficult, it's a move that makes sense, or should I say cents?

  36. Good clickbait without any real substance. Someone could to this, or might do that. Ok…sure. Wake us when something actually transpires, not idle speculation or breathless reports on ideas that may or may not ever see the light of day. Just having a little good natured fun.

  37. I'm not sure giving up 10pm is such an apocalyptic scenario. Sure, it is a sign of weakness for the Big Three, and it is unfortunate that the timeslot will just be used to stretch local news departments even further when we're already overloaded with news on TV. But FOX and the CW (including its predecessors) have already been doing exactly this for decades and they're still around. I see it more as another step in the slow managed decline of linear TV than an instant disaster for the networks.

  38. If CBS pulls the trigger, you would have to wonder if the affiliates would end up of 95 minutes to fill, or would they move The Late Show up to 11/10 or even 10:30/9:30? It could do some damage to late nights, especially if they get moved up by a half hour or an hour. Seeing as to what they did post James Corden, that show is basically a filler and would be even worse to move ahead of Colbert.

  40. It's good to see people who have actually been reporters elevated to positions of power in journalism. In general....Too often we have bosses, especially news directors and producers, who expect the wold. They have no idea about the timing and logistics needed to pull off field reporting and make slot because they were never reporters.

  41. Good point. CBS is paying Norah $8 million annually. Brian Williams made $6 million annually on MSNBC. Assuming they match his cable rate, CBS would be saving $2 million dollars on Brian (even more more if they go lower). In all fairness, Maurice and John are probably the cheaper option, and previous big name hires like Katie Couric have not elevated CBS from the perpetual third place. But if even Dan Rather, one of the biggest anchors in news history couldn't elevate CBS from third, maybe that's just their lot. Everyone can't be first place. At this point their goals should be to increase the ratings, and be more competitive.

  46. For the last few weeks, WCBS has been using CBS's virtual studio for some weather hits. It seems to mainly be used for the short weather in the first block of the 5pm, but tonight it was used for the main weather around 5:20pm. (I don't watch every night so I don't know how common this is.) I was having trouble finding video on their YouTube so I'll have to settle with screenshots. It seems gimmicky to me. It looks cartoonish. It's dizzying going back and forth between the left wall, the right wall, the floor in the middle. The live camera used to create the "window" look in the background is grainy and cuts off most of the skyline view. The wood design is tired. The "daily capsules" look odd and the text is way off, even more than a month after debuting. And they try to make the studio look big at the expense of making Lonnie look small with way too much headroom. Does it help tell the weather story better? No, I don't think so. Does it look cool? Not really. Anyone else feel differently?

  47. Another conservative group that doesn't understand that TV stations, even the network flagship, don't control their network's content, filed an FCC complaint to have WCBS's licensed pulled because of editing in the 60 Minutes interview with Kamala Harris. They'd be better off making up an EAS tone mis-use or that the E/I Lucky Dog sold t-shirts with the show's logo in an ad on accident since that's all the FCC takes action on TV-wise these days.

  49. Move the local news up to 10-11/9-10c so they can get that full hour of ad revenue. Put the late shows on 11/10c. I would imagine being seen earlier would help their ratings. Nightline especially would benefit from being earlier. Now, networks now only have to fill 2 hours of lack luster content a night. The solution should not be what some Fox stations do: news at 10 and 11pm ET (a full 90-95 minutes). News departments are stretched thin enough.
