  1. The Eaton fire is spreading towards Mount Wilson. That's where basically all of LA's tv signals are: https://ktla.com/news/california/wildfires/live-view-of-the-eaton-fire-from-mt-wilson/ https://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/california-wildfires/eaton-fire-mount-wilson/3599568/

  2. As a lifelong resident in the Los Angeles media market, the past 30-plus hours has been some of the best coverage from all L.A. local television stations I've seen ever! Essentially, all local stations have had continous coverage and have bypassed network programming since the morning hours Monday.

  3. That wasn’t Carter’s funeral, it was his lying in state service at the Capitol; his funeral takes place Thursday (January 9).

  5. I've seen reporters from KGO and KFSN reporting for KABC's coverage.

  6. I'm watching KNBC right now and they mentioned they are committed to 24 hour coverage and they are borrowing reporters from across the country to help with coverage. Right now they have Dave Summers from KNSD reporting in Altadena.

  7. Let me be clear: the most important thing is broadcasting up to the minute information to keep the community safe. With that said I do have a few questions... Most if not all LA stations have been on the air wall to wall since Tuesday morning without any breaks. How does that impact the studio equipment? Curious if there will need to be updates to monitors, cameras etc when this is all under control. Especially for a high use studio like KTLA. We will never know, but I'd like to know how much money is lost due to stations not broadcasting commercials. Again, in the grand scheme of things (lives lost, keeping people safe) it isn't important, but I know it is something that will be looked at by station management.

  8. KABC did take a break from 2-4am PST and is airing commercials now during their regularly scheduled newscast.

  10. NBC was also pretty late coming into Jimmy Carter's *lying in state* coverage with a special report. NBC News now was just running it as a headline but not doing full-blown coverage until a Special Report at about 4:00 p.m. Eastern. In all fairness ABC and CBS were covering it, so there were options, but it was still surprising. Overall fantastic and compelling coverage from all stations especially KTTV and KABC. This is more dramatic than any hurricane coverage I've ever seen.

  11. All of the stations (including Spectrum News 1) are streaming on YouTube right now so simulcasting the same feed on the national streaming nets is pretty well duplicative, so that can be justified. And I think NBCNN is trying to stay in-format as much as possible for that same reason as they know the local folks are doing a better job covering everything than anyone in New York can.

  12. I would think, especially for the streaming channels, that moments like these would be when they get the most viewers. How many people are making a habit to regularly tune into a bland streaming newscast at a certain time every weekday? Especially when they are competing directly against so many other newscasts on other channels. Major news happens after hours. Lots of news happens on weekends when the major networks are pre-empting all their newscasts all day for non-stop sports all day/night. There is a major over saturation of news on weekdays during the day and then there is a massive void of live news available on weekends and west coast primetime.

  13. FOX 11 was entertaining Rick Caruso’s crazy statements 15 minutes ago but otherwise they and the other stations have been doing a good job covering this fire.

  14. KCAL/KCBS coverage is on CBS News 24/7 and on CBS News Boston and Colorado. I’m sure the other CBS News locals, mainly Bay Area and Sacramento, will be added during the overnight hours. KABC coverage is also on ABC News Live. NBC News Now (as of 1:20am CT) is showing Dateline. Why? Don’t know. Also speaking of “why?”, Fox Weather and The Weather Channel are staying with regular overnight programming instead of simulcasting or doing their own coverage since this is also a major weather event.

  15. Which makes the banner even more ridiculous. Promote viewers to go to NewsNation so viewers can end up watching a simulcast of KTLA with portions muted for commercials. At least the simulcast got them to take the NewsNation banner off.

  16. Kttv also had pretty good dramatic pictures of a medical facility evacuation. Dare I say it was concerning how up close and personal some of the Fox 11 reporters were to the fire, especially the interview one of the reporters did with two people who tried to evacuate a horse.

  17. KTLA is always so good at providing extensive breaking news coverage. They were also great covering the 2017 fires with live non-stop coverage all night long right into the morning. They are basically by default an all news channel and spend more time covering actual news than any of the cable news channels. Couldn't agree more about NewsNation. I doubt very few if anyone in LA watches NewsNation to begin with, but this is the worst time for Nexstar to force promote the channel. If NewsNation actually had something of value for LA viewers then I could understand, but this is not the time.

  18. KTLA's coverage included an on-the-scene interview with Steve Guttenberg, who the reporter did not recognize: https://ktla.com/entertainment/actor-steve-guttenberg-helping-fire-crews-by-moving-cars-near-pacific-palisades-brush-fire/

  19. Watching fire coverage right now on KTLA. It appears Nexstar has now forced them to add a large banner at the bottom of the screen stating that "NewsNation is on Spectrum 126, Directv 307, Dish 207" I have no idea why they think anyone watching KTLA would need to know what channel number NewsNation is. It's actually insulting that while KTLA is producing extremely important breaking news coverage they are being forced to have a banner promoting coverage on some garbage low rated cable channel channel run by disgraced and/or former FOX News exces, Why would anyone choose to watch coverage anchored by unpopular fired and/or disgraced cable news hosts instead of live coverage from KTLA itself? NewsNation will never be a success. Doing ridiculous stunts like these on actual good quality news sources people actually watch like KTLA just makes Nexstar look so pathetic

  20. All stations are/were wall to wall. It's pretty bad out here right now. I'm in the Inland Empire area of SoCal and the winds haven't been this bad in years. I was in Riverside this afternoon when the Palisades fire broke out. Turned my iHeart app on KTLA who started breaking coverage at that time. Got home (I usually WFH) around 1pm and all stations were in rolling coverage. Thus far, all stations are definitely serving the public. Coverage has been top notch. Grades, ratings don't matter when lives are in danger, but KTLA and KNBC have been top notch.

  21. All stations are pretty much live and you can expect the first network prime time back after the holidays is not happening for the O&O's. This is where you see everyone on high alert. (Nine-box image from Geo on Discord) ETA - KABC deferred to WNT at 6:30, came back at 7, with the game shows moving to Localish. Fox 11 saying 'all night' with their coverage. 8pm, nobody went to network and KTLA is now simulcasting on NewsNation. FNC and CNN have been in and out, MSNBC more out than not.

  25. Worth noting that it appears to be that NBC NewsNow is going about their normal day- Cali Fires easily the Top Story, but they're also showing New Orleans Terror Attack and Space Shuttle in their 2E/1C Headline run. NBCnews.com front page is streaming KNBC-TV's Live Feed though!

  27. Agreed! And KLTA has been phenomenal tonight (Just what I've left the TV on at this point... Tired of clicking around) But... Get rid of the NewsNation bar- With all of the life and death info right now that needs to be displayed on the L3 and ticker- this is just distracting clutter and to be honest, no one in LA is watching NewsNation tonight when the headline is their own backyard.
