Something I realized reading this is that this is really kind of the first complete building in NYC built for television (at this scale at least.) ABC's current facility is a mishmash of buildings, including one over 100 years old and formerly used as a horse riding facility (similar to WBBM's old facility.) NBC is in old radio studios, CBS is in an old dairy, WNYW is in an old opera house. WPIX is in an office tower. ABC had no real constraints designing the studio spaces here. This is about as good as it can get in NYC.8 points

NYC studios are often constrained by space (especially height.) It's only been in the last decade with slimmer LED lights and video arrays that you could make smaller spaces feel grand and not cramped. KTLA vs WPIX - same set style but one is on a Hollywood sound stage and one is in an office tower in Manhattan.3 points

Never thought I’d be happy with a WABC set but this looks incredible. That circle 7 logo from above, nice touch. LA, Houston and Philly have the best looks to me but this is about to give them a real run for their money. Can’t wait to see it on air.3 points

There are some screen shots on the sets and studios page, including a practice run for those that have not seen it.2 points

While Fox 4 Kansas City was in New Orleans for the Super Bowl, they ran into their colleagues from Fox 29. WDAF and WTXF were sister stations from 1994-20072 points

I posted on the Gray Media thread on WWAX, the Hartford home for carrying four Boston Red Sox spring training games this year. I just found out that it is in partnership with NESN (no surprise there) and that there are others too who will be carrying their games with the most surprising to me: Boston's WHDH. WHDH Boston (The sister to MY favorite, WSVN Miami) WYCI Burlington (WCAX's sister) WPXT Portland (WMTW's sister; only carrying two out of the four) Those in Bangor, Presque Isle, Springfield, and my third home market, Providence/New Bedford, are out of luck. No OTA coverage there but instead will have to watch via NESN or their OTT platform, NESN 360. https://nesn.com/2025/02/nesn-announces-2025-red-sox-spring-training-broadcast-schedule/2 points

Not really … have you seen any of the sets and graphics packages WABC previously had?2 points

Hello! This is my first post on here after lurking on the old and new sites for a couple years and I wanted to make a topic on the new ABC building in Hudson Square after someone on here posted a World News Now video eulogizing the old building. I'm pretty sure lots of folks here already posted The View's new studio so I'm not gonna bother with that. But here's some pics of WNN/GMA First Look's new set. Honestly, to me, there's not that much difference between the old and new sets and they didn't show more of the new set but other than that, it's fine.1 point

Noticed this week that Sinclair's WJAC Johnstown has been on their stand-up monitor set. After 16 years (August 2008 Olympics), is WJAC finally getting a new news set or is the current set getting updated? Any information?1 point

WTVD today debuts its renovated Durham studio, they returning to there original Durham studio after being in Raleigh for a couple of years. Here some pictures. https://www.facebook.com/share/18xmaQFnpL/?mibextid=wwXIfr1 point

The current studio is pretty nice, especially once the screens were updated and the backdrops modernized. Weekend GMA will be coming from Times Square until June when all of GMA moves downtown.1 point

It seemed from her Instagram post that the change will be take place immediately. Personally, I'd like to see Kala Rama back as anchor in a permanent capacity. Vanessa is very good but Kala was always great in the early mornings with Craig. The only likely other option internally would be Katie Corrado or Grace Gomez.1 point

It has been like that for many years. I can remember watching the station in the early 2010s and the camera was always too close. I thought it was because the green screen wasn’t wide enough and they couldn’t zoom out the camera too far.1 point

Their current studio and the one before it were both awful. Extremely bad for the #1 station in the country! Obviously we’ll see how it looks in action on Saturday but these previews are extremely promising.1 point

The WNN/GMA First Look set is “temporary”’ until the main studio is built out. They mentioned that in their first broadcast.1 point

Some folks will still remain in Raleigh, but for now all newscasts are headed back from Durham I believe they’ve been working on this for years. Disney sure is investing in its stations recently with WABC getting its new home, and WTVD upgraded home looks like Mickey Mouse is calling an early Christmas.1 point

I want to say over the past three weeks, they stopped using certain areas (green screen, faux windows on both sides, etc...) as if they were clearing out one side before moving to the opposite side. One could argue the overall set was fine (it's less than 8 yrs old) and has held up very well. And while I liked what they did to Studio 32, I'm not sure I would like it on a larger scale. That said, I'm hoping for something different than that for the main studio.1 point

It has good lighting, seamless video walls as you'd expect, and a few options for standup presentation – what's not to like?1 point

Looks like they have started the 2nd phase of the [ main ] set upgrades you mentioned. For the nearly two weeks; they have been using their secondary studio (Studio 32) for all newscasts. No word on when they will move back to the main studio nor the full scope of work being done.1 point

Fair points but my issue isn't sizes of sets, it's design concept. KTLA and WPIX are very similar, but there's subtle differences on the LA set that give it the edge. In the case of WABC, IMO set size wasn't an issue, it was bad design and poor lighting that cheapened its look.1 point

SNY will be offering a DTC package in the Mets broadcast territory for the upcoming baseball season & will stream full-time on the MLB app, ditching its own app in the process. It'll go for $24.99/mo, $124.99/season, or $149.99/year. https://www.mlb.com/live-stream-games/subscribe/sny?partnerId=redirect-nym-snymets1 point

A major shift for Telemundo in Columbia, S.C. The network has moved from WKTC 63.2 to... Gray's WTES-LD 16.1. This must've happened within the last couple of weeks, and WTES also carries WIS' Palmetto Sports and Entertainment Network on 16.2 in HD (WIS also carries it in SD on 10.4). Nominally licensed to Florence, S.C., it was a translator of WMBF for its first two years on the air starting in 2022 until it moved to the Columbia market and became a WIS translator for the last year before becoming the newest Telemundo affiliate.1 point

Michelle was off Sunday morning, Toni anchored with Pedro. A few weeks ago when Pedro was on vacation we saw Chantee Lans and Janice Yu with Michelle so potentially trying pairs again (yes I know they’ve all anchored together in the past) but if a move is coming maybe testing. Also note that with rehearsals going on over on the new set this afternoon/evening they had Joe and Tanya anchoring at 5. Sandra anchored 6 solo1 point

Nothing set in stone yet, but it appears the Arizona Diamondbacks are going to have an OTA package of some form for the upcoming season according to their President & CEO. Certainly the Phoenix market has many options including the 2 indy stations KTVK & KASW, even the MyNetwork affiliate KUTP is viable.1 point

Am I serious about what? I was unaware that Tamron Hall relocated to the new studio. Everybody doesn’t know everything, and thank you for informing me. There’s a more polite way that you could have informed me of that, instead of your usual sarcasm. Again, If you’re going to respond to anything I post check your tone first. I always reply to people respectfully on this thread, give me the same courtesy. You aside, the new studios are terrific so far. The lighting on The View also looks very good. Hoping the upcoming WABC set is just as great.1 point

True. We always have to strike a balance between being critics who have a more acute eye for certain things and assessing what the audience actually cares about. But If the news station dedicated a segment to draw attention to their new set it shows that they want the audience to care about it.1 point

I forgot to add: there aren't any pics of the set in World News Now mode because the ABC News Live stream only began with the latter half of GMA First Look.1 point

The old WTBS now Peachtree TV, which if I'm not mistaken north of the border in Canada, is still being shown like it was back in the old SuperStation days getting similar treatment to WPIX, WGN, & KTLA.1 point

Nice, clean design. Not a fan of the red or whatever color used in the texture below the monitor wall behind the main desk; it reminds me of brick. Sinclair definitely needs to update its graphics, though. They definitely haven't aged well, either.1 point

Well, new this year....but been on air several months now...along with the move to a new suburban building The 'KMOV 4' header above the main screen is a nice finishing touch. Low cost thing that emphasizes branding in a heroic way, makes it less generic, and something more stations would be wise to consider. There are many ways to apply this sort of treatment above the screen area. Strange to see a newscast branded as 'First Alert,' makes it feel like all the anchors are weather anchors.1 point

I wouldn’t be surprised if they get the same set that WEAR, WSBT and KATV got.1 point

2010 was the last time they debuted a new set that was when Allison Floyd and Tim McGinnis were anchors and Rich Chrampanis was still sports director all of them gone. That’s how long they had the set.1 point

Watched some clips… The main 2 shot still lacks depth and looks awkward with the frame of the screen and the metal brackets. Weather board looks great with the warm limestone and peacock carving. A lot better than stark white Weather anchor desk side shot looks great too with the weather office in the background, nice depth to it The blue to orange sunset gradient is also refreshing - warm, friendly and not a color scheme you see a lot in broadcast news1 point

The bones of that set go back to 2010, correct? https://www.clickspringdesign.com/portfolio/nbc-wrc/1 point

The WMAQ-type redo sounds plausible. Leave home base and (probably) the stage left stand-up, but spruce up the interview set and repurpose the 4th wall with the little nook. For the record, they did do the 9pm news from the interview set desk on Thursday(?), last week, so they hadn't completely abandoned the space, at that point.0 points
