  1. I agree. Begin the show with that daily news roundup, but instead extend it to 90 second VOs or VO/SOTs for the first 2-5 mins, then get into feature reporting for the remainder. If CBS torches their best revamp of EN since Bob Schiffer, that would be very unfortunate. To the critics: Every news outlet covers the same thing, it's not a sin that CBS decided to go in a different direction. I really hope the audience gives this a chance. It's a jolting transition because we've been hardwired to fast paced high story count newscasts like the competition. But this is a level of quality rare for American TV news that we'd more see from PBS or Europeran sources like BBC and France 24. I hope people will open their minds to this. If this crashes and burns, I don't think the evening news can get much better than this. Just give the timeslot back to the affiliates.

  2. WABC-TV's new set looks very nice I must say. The Circle 7 fixture above the main anchor desk and home-base area is also quite neat. The anchor desk also looks nice. I'm curious as to whether the new WABC-TV Eyewitness News set is Broadcast Design International, FX Design Group, or Z Space Creative project, or something from a different set design firm. Hopefully the old WABC-TV set at Lincoln Center that made its final appearance this weekend gets donated to a local college or charter school journalism studies program and put to great use. Just sayin'.

  3. Yeah it's an evolution indeed from their previous set, arguably one of the nicest in the market, just well executed and placed properly. The lighting is great, the set is large and no longer cramped, overall a major much needed improvement that we've all waited years for. Cant wait to see the other one elements and how the dynamics are put it to use during their other shows. Overall it's an incredibly wonderful improvement! Gonna really miss the streetside studio, at this point only Chicago's Eyewitness News (WLS-TV) has the State Street Studio if I remember correctly. Only gripe I have is the ticker with the Eyewitness News and ABC7NY etc, I don't think having that moving behind them is necessary, its a bit too busy, but other than that, its an amazingly beautiful set! WABC now the cream of the crop with their on air presentation and product.

  4. Definitely worth the 10+ year wait! This has what a lot of sets these days are lacking, DEPTH and I love it! I know lots of people will say that's because of video walls, but this shows that you can have depth and modern tech mixed in! The new desk is a huge improvement! It beats whatever that oversized one made up of two monitors was! I'll say like @MediaZone4K, the weather area might be my favorite part of the new set! The circles and the clouds are so fun! IDK if it's a duratran or a wall from the image but if it's a wall, it would be cool if they replaced the clouds with lighting/snow/etc to reflect the weather. The angled desk kind of ruins the mood though.

  5. Very nice new studio. ABC 7 finally looks fully modern with their presentation. I like that the skyline isn't just a plain old skyline, but seems to be somewhat artistic with some animated graphics mixed in. Anchors seem to be sitting close to each other. Michelle made mention of that at the end of this morning's farewell. They tried to show a timelapse of the studio's construction but they started it too soon and they didn't show anything of consequence before they cut away from it. Perhaps we'll see more of that tomorrow morning or Monday. Looking forward to seeing the rest of it used on other broadcasts,

  6. Somehow missed this but ABC News Live has debuted new graphics, both for it's dayside and Primetime programing and a new theme. Might be wrong, but it looks like the temp set for WNN/GMA FL. The new package seems to follow a file like look, with the file's coming together to form the ABC logo.

  7. This is what happens always. The viewers always yell "gee we want a quality newscast". You give them an excellent broadcast and then they are like "lol sike not like that".

  8. My opinion, and I'm welcome to it as a non regular viewer. The lighting seems to be too bright and the faces on the set are washed out looking, Seems to need some adjustment. The microphone echo is definitely present. I find the Eyewitness News banner behind the anchors distracting, it's too large. A smaller banner would work better.

  9. My only gripe with the weather area is that solid blue wall. The light reflects off of it, and it kinda looks like an element from the old set. I like that it forms a circle 7 though. Wow! For the first time in a long time we can now say every broadcast station in New York City has a decent set.

  10. For some of these smaller markets with umpteen hours of local news, the move sort of makes sense. Most of the material is C-block grade and local weather is much more appealing than the new "Krispy Kreme donut" or the latest "caught on video" story ...

  11. Yet World News Tonight still has those archaic, squished 4x3-minded graphics (well, the lower thirds at least).

  12. Joy Reid and Wagner’s shows are easily the weakest parts of their primetime lineup so I like this move. The Weekend is surprisingly pretty good, it’ll be interesting to see if it can translate to 7pm.

  13. Confirmed. Joy Reid and Alex Wagner are OUT as network hosts. The Weekend trio got the 7 p.m. gig and it looks like Jen Psaki is getting the 9 p.m. outside of Rachel Maddow's one night a week (and outside of the first 100 days). https://variety.com/2025/tv/news/msnbc-evening-shake-up-joy-reid-alex-wagner-1236316524/

  14. One big fix was the lighting! Dark: Vs brighter more even color The hollow Circle 7 with the clouds is also a great touch. My favorite element of the new set. The echo sounding mics remind me of KTRK and KABC's sound. I don't know if this is a carryover from ABC News, but the anchors asko seem to be talking very loudly. I noticed that on GMA and WNT, my assumption is it's for dramatic effect just like their overuse of breaking news.

  15. I still can’t believe there moving. This is just extremely rare this never happens in New York the networks stay in the buildings forever because of how historic they are ABC is doing something never done before. I don’t have a photo but I’ve seen WABC building it’s gonna be sad to see it go.

  16. A lil BTS screenshot from an ABC News report earlier today showing what appears to be the new newsroom the network will be working from, looks like shades out of FOX News with the revolving TV stand above.

  17. It has good lighting, seamless video walls as you'd expect, and a few options for standup presentation – what's not to like?

  18. I don’t know how it is elsewhere but my experience has been a lot of folks becoming municipal spokespersons and or starting some communication strategy thing.

  19. I admittedly hadn’t seen the report so the post was the only context I was going off of. Again, I think the approach of not regurgitating every element of the last 12-24 hours is admirable.

  20. https://old.reddit.com/r/Broadcasting/comments/1i7nzaf/allen_reversal/ It's only a rumor at this point, but the Broadcasting subreddit has been pretty spot on about things like this. Perhaps even Byron Allen realized this was an incredibly dumb move.
