It’s hardly the point of this evening’s breaking news but WABC’s new location is proving to be a prime vantage point for this story. Mike Marza has been reporting from the outside deck with the crash site in the water behind him.2 points

This is awesome. They used to do stuff like this more regularly. I remember Bob Costas, Jay Leno and Brian Williams to name a few as guest cohosts during the 2000s.1 point

Maybe it was designed by a designer thinking it could be up when a lower third is not… but it’s rare to not have a lower third up during a breaking news event.1 point

Pop Culture Jeopardy airs exclusively on Prime, so I wouldn’t rule out Amazon as far as streaming is concerned. Can’t see Netflix being interested, but you never know.1 point

Which would be suicidal and I'm sure the local folks will try to talk New York out of it, but we're talking about a company that utterly refuses to kill a cable channel even as nobody is watching them and subscribers plead with providers to force them to die to get even $4 of relief on their bills. Les Moonves is a jerk and his personal life sucked, but he literally only seemed to be the only adult in the room that could get through to the Redstones and the Viacom board and deal with every CBS division with an iron fist. I would expect next go-around if this sticks, Sony seals a deal with ABC-Disney for distribution and streaming and that if not Netflix, Hulu already has a head start to start streaming the shows just based on Sony/ABC's overall relationships regarding the show alone. Every single negative thing Les feared about a re-merger has come true.1 point

Hopefully in return, Sony has the full freedom to distribute it to streaming services....especially on free platforms.1 point

I decided to record the first three minutes of WBAY's noon news yesterday to see it in action for prosperity. Yes, I'm plan to do more videos like this again but not as consistent or as much as other YouTubers.1 point

They once did in Cuba but I think its been shut down. They also once had correspondents in Venezuela and Colombia. They weren't shared bureaus either, they were WPLG's own in-house news bureaus in those countries but I think they've since closed them due to the political climate in those countries as well as here.1 point

Aaron White left the evil empire that is AMG and KIMT some time ago and has now landed in TEGNA country at WBNS 10TV. https://www.facebook.com/GarofaloWX/posts/pfbid02NijYQh1wjaCAoNa2woAXMHDo3xyb1NrVMyVTFXTjJ6VKJq3ZxsUKmE3CvANfS3myl1 point

Aaron Wright Denise Whittaker Chris Nguyen What do these three have incommon? All appeared on Seattle TV. These same three will become the new anchors at KNWN Northwest Newsradio. Aaron (formerly from KIRO-TV) is joining afternoons and Chris (formerly from KOMO-TV for like a brief 3 month stint?) will do mornings in the interim before Denise takes over once she leaves KOMO-TV in June. https://radioinsight.com/headlines/298384/northwest-news-radio-adds-three-seattle-tv-veterans-to-anchor-lineup/1 point

Its not a good look when you replace someone who spent 20+ years at the station (Toya Washington) only for the replacement to suddenly leave after just 3 years (Kristen Pierce). I'm sorry to say this but WISN did Toya dirty. They should've given her more roles, including at 4pm, and the fact they never did or given her the 10pm on top of the 5pm, it makes them look dirty. I still like WISN 12 but something like this just makes you take a second look at them.1 point

Good Lord, this whole discussion is not worth the webpage it's printed on. There's no grand conspiracy here. You have a brand new building, you show it off. Corporate paid for it, so why not? Heck, The View did a drone fly-through of the building on day 1, showing everything, including this atrium space. Beyond that, the end of March "eviction" for Live is the likely case, but Lord knows delays happen. I'm sure their plan was to be in the studio for the start of this month, but they couldn't, so they came up with a creative, reasonably attractive stopgap measure. Credit to the staff for making this work. I doubt there's anything more to it than that.1 point

The absolute KINDEST man in local television news. A well-deserved semi-retirement. Their Sunday Morning show is actually a highlight on a very blighted record thanks to him. As for WISN’s issues… no comment.1 point

Following up on this, recently uploaded to YouTube are two bulletins from October 1994: the 1 October edition of News 5 Tonight presented by Duncan Watt and Karen Ann Lam with Bertrand Bartlett on sports (top stories peacekeeping problems, an art outreach in Egypt, and an investment education program) and the 10 October edition of News 5 at Seven presented by Nicolette Tjoa and Christine Tan (top stories Singapore's first gold at the Asian Games in 12 years and a report on strokes), followed by a promo for that day's News 5 Tonight: In 1994, Singapore's Channel 5 underwent a major rebrand as part of a shift to an exclusively Anglophone service, alongside the planned privatization of the Singapore Broadcasting Corporation (now MediaCorp). American graphic design company Novocom was hired to produce the look, and the channel adopted Gari Communications' "Where It All Happens" music package. This was particularly evident in their newscasts, which were split into 7pm and 10:30pm bulletins, known as News 5 at Seven (aimed at late workers who might have missed the previous 9pm bulletins) and News 5 Tonight (aimed at late night viewers) (unfortunately, the idea of a News 5 at Five missed them by a mile). They were later joined by what appeared to be a midday bulletin, News 5 Today, around next year (records seem spotty). The graphics underwent modification that year, and the music was replaced with what seemed to be in-house compositions. "Where It All Happens" seemed to have returned by 1998, and remained in use until 2001. News 5 Today and News 5 at Seven were axed by 1999, and News 5 Tonight was moved to 9:30pm, where it remains to this day. These recordings were made during what was perhaps the height of this American-styled presentation for this channel.1 point

The "not a difficult decision" in her statement was very telling and candid because they did a few things and hires that you could say are 'more palatable' to certain suburbanites, including getting a new hire outside the station for the nightside rather than promoting deserving talent already there. (It's still much less than what 4 has gone through since the Scripps sale though) A day one hire from WTMJ, and a well-deserved wind-down for Mike (and Sunday Morning is a good example of what stations should do on the weekend mornings); one of the last of the 'steady and solid' guys from that era of Milwaukee news.1 point

Sticking with Milwaukee... a WDJT original is hanging it up, somewhat. Mike Strehlow has been there since day one. However, he's giving up his noon and 4pm duties so he can semi-retire in order to solely focus on CBS 58 Sunday Morning, which btw is different from their weekend morning news. https://cbs58.com/news/cbs-58s-mike-strehlow-stepping-away-from-anchor-desk1 point

What was the point in moving before the studio was ready? The last few weeks of “Live” production has been odd.1 point

Is the goal for Craig to still be a part of the third hour, or will they slowly transition him off and replace him there? Do they plan on bringing in a third “news anchor” (Craig’s previous role) or is Carson now filling that role?1 point

Action 2 News at Noon reverted back to the old ticker and the old time/temp bug today. EDIT: Old ticker at 4pm too.0 points

Not sure what to make of your unnecessary hyperbole, nor did anyone suggest a "grand conspiracy." I simply pointed out that while Disney PR told People Magazine that this was intentional, I suspected it wasn't. You essentially just restated what I already said -- there was likely a delay necessitating it. That's all.0 points

They might wait a while before naming a news anchor and do what they did in 2016 and 2018, where the co-anchors read the other quick news briefs. Perhaps they planned to name Shinelle for that role, but then, with her family emergency, they pushed it back, or maybe they are just waiting until she returns to decide (or announce) on that and the third hour. It is possible that Craig will stop appearing on the 3rd Hour once Shinelle returns. This has been the norm since 2004-2005, and I imagine they will continue. They should bring Amy Roach back to NBC as a News anchor and a role on Dateline. I know she was fired from ABC, but that had more to do with distraction and how it all played out. The network is owned by Disney, which emphasizes Family. Perhaps in the MeTOO era (I know it was not technically a MeTOO thing), it made her person non-grata on NBC and CBS, and NBC would probably get criticized for hypocrisy, but it would be a good career redemption.0 points
