Yeah….no. The shows are expensive. That is reason to give group management pause and warrants careful evaluation as contracts renew. But the bottom is what matters and if the business benefits from having the shows on those stations, they will stay. Big boys and girls understand business is business. Sometimes you get into a tiff in one area, but no one with an ounce of common sense would base a business decision involving millions of dollars just on spite.3 points

Which would be suicidal and I'm sure the local folks will try to talk New York out of it, but we're talking about a company that utterly refuses to kill a cable channel even as nobody is watching them and subscribers plead with providers to force them to die to get even $4 of relief on their bills. Les Moonves is a jerk and his personal life sucked, but he literally only seemed to be the only adult in the room that could get through to the Redstones and the Viacom board and deal with every CBS division with an iron fist. I would expect next go-around if this sticks, Sony seals a deal with ABC-Disney for distribution and streaming and that if not Netflix, Hulu already has a head start to start streaming the shows just based on Sony/ABC's overall relationships regarding the show alone. Every single negative thing Les feared about a re-merger has come true.3 points

I completely believe this because what used to be a good tool for managing accounts in TweetDeck is probably now a bodged together online-only mess because the guy who took over the site destroyed the downloadable app that let you do this all offline THEN send the muted words onto their lists. I don't know the TweetDeck experience right now, but adding every variation of the r-slur because that place refuses to moderate anything just as an individual user now was a nightmare and a half.2 points

Don't be surprised if out of retaliation for this, CBS doesn't renew the contracts for the 2 game shows in the O&O markets that air it in Boston, Dallas, & Minneapolis/St. Paul.2 points

WRAL's streaming strategy is a big firehose with multiple services rather than just limiting it to certain websites and services (and times... *cough* Perry Sook ), including an open stream of their WRAL+/WNGT-CD service on YouTube, so this isn't a surprise; just another means to get their news out there. I wouldn't worry about any takeovers; this is just a broadcasting company that remembers the 'broad' part of the name and Fox letting them do so through that affiliation agreement, the same way they carry WAGA's audio on an HD2 radio subchannel through Audacy, and I'd expect this will be the first of many FoxLocal streaming deals (or perhaps a part of the upcoming cord-cutting app in planning).1 point

Monday morning, Gayle King is scheduled to go into "space" on an eleven-minute joyride as part of a PR stunt for Jeff Bezos and his Blue Origin. CBS Mornings will have a special hour at 9 a.m. to cover "Gayle Goes To Space." https://www.cbsnews.com/news/cbs-mornings-gayle-king-space-blue-origin-crew/1 point

Now that it's mid-April and winter weather seems to be in our rear view mirror, CBS 2 CBS News New York has rebranded the Mobile Weather Lab, which launched in March 2012 (I took some of these photos) and was redone in August 2016, as the First Alert Weather Tracker. John Elliott says it has "so many cameras," including a "slush cam" down below, though they only showed a roof camera today. Interestingly, the CBS 2 logo square appears on its own, instead of next to the "CBS News New York" portion of the logo. The truck also uses the "CBS New York" (not "News") version of the logo.1 point

I’d fully expect Tegna to grab them for KARE and WFAA if that’s the case; Boston could literally be anyone (though I think it’ll end up being WHDH or WFXT)1 point

The whole show isn't the sports scores. The bit with the pen happens at the 22:00 mark.1 point

Not sure what happened, but the 11pm newscast for April 8th is entirely the sports scores that they insert for streaming after broadcast. https://abc7ny.com/videoClip/16147210/ Does anyone here work at WABC7, and if so can this be fixed? I like to re-watch if I miss something, and Mike's excitement before Sports, where he seemed to throw his pen(?) was fun to watch the other night.1 point

This is awesome. They used to do stuff like this more regularly. I remember Bob Costas, Jay Leno and Brian Williams to name a few as guest cohosts during the 2000s.1 point

Maybe it was designed by a designer thinking it could be up when a lower third is not… but it’s rare to not have a lower third up during a breaking news event.1 point

I was just thinking about that. It reminded me of when Tom Brokaw anchored Nightly News from the roof of 30 Rock on 9/11. An alternative idea would've been to field anchor with one of the primary news cast anchors on the roof for the duration of the newscast. Extra emphasis1 point

It’s hardly the point of this evening’s breaking news but WABC’s new location is proving to be a prime vantage point for this story. Mike Marza has been reporting from the outside deck with the crash site in the water behind him.1 point

33 years at KPLC, and nearly 3 decades anchoring 7 News Sunrise. Come June, John Bridges will stop anchoring the program as he'll entire the next phase... retirement. https://www.kplctv.com/2025/04/10/longtime-sunrise-anchor-john-bridges-announces-he-will-retire-this-summer/?fbclid=IwY2xjawJlGZJleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHt1aSQlK_ngljRMyekqegBgbQEjyB4xdWCrvmUlu5NX1aPDfLfioTkoEmhRS_aem_CujNY3ChNqMNgiay2qOjEw1 point

Not sure what to make of your unnecessary hyperbole, nor did anyone suggest a "grand conspiracy." I simply pointed out that while Disney PR told People Magazine that this was intentional, I suspected it wasn't. You essentially just restated what I already said -- there was likely a delay necessitating it. That's all.1 point

Another "problem" for WCBS management to solve. The rotation of meteorologists at night, Maurice's replacement at 5pm and a possible departure of Mary Calvi from the morning shift. Although, I think Cindy Hsu will likely take over the morning news.1 point

In light of the WPLG/WSVN affiliation changes here are some classic videos of Miami/Ft Lauderdale's previous shakeups. 1988 Swaps 1995 WTVJ/ WCIX-WFOR channel number switch. 2008 WPLG-WTVJ failed duopoly attempt1 point

Well, this is a shocker. 14 years after the CBS/TBS/TNT/TruTV deal began, CBS finally released an official video on YouTube with the 2011-Present March Madness theme song. Curiously, the video contains the music on loop for 1 hour. However, it's definitely not the full theme song, as some core components are missing, like this part.1 point

Well beyond time they got a new set and I say this was well worth the wait! It matches Florida and Jacksonville well, it's not super edgy like WJAX or WFOX but it doesn't have to be. It's honestly refreshing in this market! I love the wood and warmness of it and how much it relies on other elements other than video walls and not just the same tired trends like graphics or repeating stuff but using woods, the logo on set, the bricks, the overhead, a different floor patterns. Very unique to see a curved video wall, and honestly, that might be the best part, it's something few newscasts have used here in the states local or national, and for a market like Jacksonville, I'm all for it! Hope WXIA will get something similar.1 point
