This is better lit than their Upper West Side studio, warmer lighting has really helped all of the shows that moved. The HD quality looks richer. The temporary set looked better IMO, I wish they switched it up more for the new permanent Live set. This is basically what ABC did with World News Tonight, re-create the same thing in a different space. The only set I would've liked to have seen rebuilt the same way was The View, as it looked really good before, but the new set is OK.4 points

WABC-TV named John Antonio has Vice President of News starting April 29. He was previously the executive producer of the 5 and 6pm EWN editions, eventually moving on to CNN. https://abc7ny.com/post/wabc-tv-new-york-names-john-antonio-vice-president-news/16178094/2 points

This happens a lot one of the perks of working in New York local news station you can appear on national news. And if you’re really lucky you can land a spot like Al Roker and Matt Lauer did. Not so new anymore since MSNBC has been using it.2 points

I'm sure there will be no conflict of interest at all. /s Don Trump, Jr. and Lara Trump ink deals with Salem. https://radioinsight.com/headlines/298639/salem-enters-into-deals-with-donald-trump-jr-lara-trump/?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=jetpack_social&fbclid=IwY2xjawJqcq1leHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHh4XRQ5qcZEbezeUtbzef6YvBCW84pEWTUBthHly8EpvIHvCofXpQQl-wsLf_aem_XBkJR7XQ6rnkWO6l5TqrFQ2 points

Not sure what to make of your unnecessary hyperbole, nor did anyone suggest a "grand conspiracy." I simply pointed out that while Disney PR told People Magazine that this was intentional, I suspected it wasn't. You essentially just restated what I already said -- there was likely a delay necessitating it. That's all.2 points

Without the Sony game shows (there by default because Nexstar and Sinclair aren't throwing money into a perceived 'dead market' like Syracuse) WSYT would probably be a Coastal station like WYDC nearby. It really feels like an complete afterthought since Sinclair spun it off with WNYS.1 point

Deborah Knapp has spent almost 50 years in TV news, the last nearly 38 at KENS 5. Come late May, she will retire. One of the last best titan pillars of journalism is soon walking out the door.1 point

I hope even if they call, he has the good sense to say no. There is nothing to gain and everything to lose by coming back. I hope Leon finds peace, sobriety, and health in his next chapter. As someone who spent 15 years in a newsroom, for every person who has a public/visible fall from grace due to alcohol or other substance abuse, there are just as many, if not more, who battle it silently or are in denial about it and manage to fly under the radar. There's no way to quantify the why - but the combination of odd hours, lack of balance, constant bad news content, and high-pressure work environment all likely play a role. Candidly, it's a big reason why I got out when I did. I saw the life outcomes of unmarried or divorced men over 40 who stay in TV news. The odds are not in your favor.1 point

I was gonna say… No station really has the money these days to pay anchors. WUSA and Tegna is probably looking to unload.. not add.1 point

And thus why Gilma's been filling in today at WNBC... because Natalie's been filling in for Frances at NBC.1 point

I am not surprised as KREM has turned into a mini dumpster fire since they migrated to the new AI production platform. I think they may have undergone some additional budget tightening as well… It took them a few months to replace their morning anchor, some weekends there isn’t even a reporter in the field, and it appears they dumped their 5 PM weekend newscast to air a 30 minute week in review show.1 point

Well sure, but you showcase the brand new studios you just built. Not a random office building atrium.1 point

Call me a skeptic, but unless Bob Iger's ego is as fragile as Trump's, I don't buy "we wanted to show off the 10th floor of our new corporate building" that none of their viewers care about. Sounds like a post-hoc justification for unforeseen circumstances.1 point

Apparently this spot is for this week only - full studio in a week. https://people.com/find-out-where-kelly-ripa-and-mark-consuelos-will-film-live-before-they-premiere-new-set-117087301 point

I know we're on a special schedule due to the holiday, but Gilma Avalos had a very long day today. She presented the news at 11am, 4pm, 5pm and 6pm.1 point

NBC is in the process of building a new newsroom that covers both stations, similar to their duopoly in DC (WRC& WZDC), which is why WNJU hasn't moved out yet.1 point

There is a long history of WNBC news talent showing up on the network - Chuck Scarborough used to do national prime time updates during a commercial break. Chris Cimino did weekend Today weather. Al Roker. Matt Lauer was doing both TINY and Today at first. WNBC investigative reporter Jonathan Dienst shows up often on the network and for now, MSNBC. It's not what I would call an exception for NBC. Interesting Natalie was off at 4 and 6 but was on the 11 pm news.0 points

KPVI is an afterthought in a two-newsroom market. Its quality is on par with its former sister KIEM. Longtime users of this forum know that KIEM and quality typically aren’t mentioned in the same sentence.0 points

Outside of KPVI (which is itself in a small market) those stations are super small and borderline afterthoughts. Does WICZ/WSYT have any local output to speak of? The funny thing is I bet INSP didn't get anything close to a return on their investment a few years ago.0 points

A sad day to report on SoCal broadcasting. Ed Arnold has died. I know lists aren't allowed but please allow this exception because he truly did it all in his 60 YEARS of service to broadcasting in SoCal... Joined KTLA in the late 1960s as announcer/sportscaster. Joined KABC in 1975, but left in 1986. Returned to KTLA in 1986 and stayed until 1999. The voice of KCET. Sports personality for 1110 KRLA (now KWVE), 97.1 KHTZ (now KNX-FM), and 710 KMPC (now KSPN). Co-host and managing editor of Real Orange for KOCE. Announcer for the internationally televised Hour of Power religious program. He died last Thursday after suffering from heart disease for many years. Tulsa television has lost an icon tonight. KTUL-TV announced that legendary meteorologist Don Woods died this evening at the age of 84 due to complications from pancreatic cancer. Woods was the ABC affiliate's first meteorologist when the station signed on in 1954 and stayed at Channel 8 until he retired in 1989. Don Harman, a beloved meteorologist and personality on the FOX 4 morning show passed away Tuesday evening. To all of us, Don was like family, and the news comes as a great shock to all the folks he worked with here at FOX 4. President and General Manager Cheryl McDonald said “We are very saddened by this tragic loss. Don wasn’t just our Meteorologist, he was a part of our family and we loved him. Words cannot express how deeply he will be missed.” Don brightened our mornings for more than 10 years and he made his mark on Kansas City television. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, and we ask that in this time of sorrow that you respect them and their need for privacy in their moment of grief. Don’s family has set up a fund in lieu of flowers. If you’d like to donate: The Don Harman Memorial Fund Benefiting local Kansas City Charities. c/o Tightwad Bank 1160 SE Highway 7 Tightwad, Mo. 64735 All of us at TVNT send our prayers and condolences to the Harman family and extended family at WDAF FOX 4.0 points
