  1. And I don't think Sinclair can buy anyway because of the troubles Sinclair had with the FCC regarding the Tribune deal. Speaking of wish, I wish Tribune was still around.

  2. I agree. From what I read (from reliable sources) is that 'if' Clarkson were to end her show; it would be so that she can focus on her family. That's a more plausible reason (to end the show) to me.

  3. The source for the above is the Daily Mail and they have no idea what they (or the anonymous source) are talking about. There's a good reason nobody usually uses a Yahoo News syndication article that's from a pink slime SEO operation.

  6. As I understand it, a local firm is interested in WSIL. Might they pull a Deltavision (or whoever the company is that bought WABG and others) and buy a bit more as well?? Indiana comes to mind. And possibly Wisconsin and WJRT.

  7. Yes, I agree. Everyone else other than Coastal is better in this case. Even Sinclair could be a better choice.

  8. Oof. I'd rather see anyone else buy them as opposed to Coastal (former Coastal Employee. I can make a primetime special on how big of a jerk the owner is.) Anyone else would be an upgrade (Including Scripps, Sinclair, and TEGNA)

  11. No they wouldn't be satellites, they would help WISN bolster Wisconsin coverage. Plus, Hearst would be smart to bring them all back to their own independence (that's IF Hearst were to acquire them, not saying it WILL acquire them).

  12. For the next two days before his retirement from WTHR, Chuck Lofton will be delivering the weather... from the Chuck Lofton Studio as WTHR has commenced as of today. Chuck retires on Friday after a 40-year run that also has included gifted signed jerseys from the Colts (signed by the late Jim Irsay), Pacers (signed by Tyrese Haliburton), and Fever (signed by Caitlin Clark) plus an invitation to join the Pacers' upcoming (maybe) Championship Parade. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DKfkITbvoj4/?igsh=MWN0a3RreGxxbm9hNw==

  13. So they can all run MeTV off the bird? Why would Hearst waste their time with the beyond-broken OW stations? They don't need full-power satellites for WISN, which is all they would be.

  14. This makes me wonder if CBS regrets trading away WDCA and KTXH if anyone from that era is still at the company.

  16. Not only is CBS unwilling to buy anything (they haven't since ... what, when they merged into the first Viacom?? in 2000??) they're also stuck with three stations they can't sell: WUPA, KSTW and WTOG. I betcha if no regulations existed anymore, Nexstar would have grabbed WUPA and KSTW as CW-owned stations. But since the 39% cap still exists, CBS can't get rid of them. Putting CBS on WUPA is the path of least resistance, plus it gives this miasma soon to be known as ParamountSkydance another local digital platform to have once viewership totally dries up and CBS becomes nothing more than a brand name for P+ and Pluto.

He will continue to appear on Eyewitness News at 6:00p. Mike Marza, who replaced Ritter at 11:00 not long ago, adds the 5:00 starting tomorrow (Tues 6/3). https://abc7ny.com/videoClip/16636706/

  20. Meh. "Almost 10 years" is a pretty darn good run for a news set. Presentation does matter.

  21. I feel like some people are getting the wrong impression of our thoughts. The set's nice, modern, and we'll rounded despite everything being along the sides. The plain heart of the matter is a new set is the LAST thing this (and so many stations that Nexstar is either getting new sets for or recently did) station needed while the stations that DO need a new set don't get one.

  22. If this set were replacing a set like WALA’s, I’d agree with you. A set isn’t even the most important part of a newscast, the journalistic product is. The problem is that Nexstar doesn’t seem to think this way when it comes to some of their stations. They place so much emphasis on building sets for stations that don’t really need them (the set this replaced wasn’t even 10 years old,) and the new sets look dated even at launch (see WTTV for another example of this.) While I agree with @tyrannical bastard that this set is the best in the market, that’s not a very high bar. The competitors are Sinclair (speaks for itself) and WALA, which hasn’t updated their set since they first went HD. IMHO, if a new set is that important to your news operation, it should be built to last. As I said in my post in the KXAN set thread, Nexstar could’ve spent that money on more staff, resources, and employee benefits. An FTVLive article from today featured a reporter from a Nexstar station that was tasked with solo-anchoring and producing an 11pm newscast, while also doing the weather. How is it that Nexstar can spend loads on new sets that don’t even look all that great, but can’t afford to hire staff at other stations to lighten the workload? I’ll give Nexstar credit for how WJZY has turned around under its stewardship. Their story selection has improved, more people have been hired, and their new set (which they actually needed, unlike WKRG) looks great imo. I also recognize that local management has a lot to do with these decisions, and that corporate isn’t just controlling each station with marionettes. That being said, if a new set A) isn’t needed, B) doesn’t even look as good as what other designers have produced for stations, and C) adds nothing new to the overall product, what’s the point? It’s like replacing a working iPhone 12 with the brand new iPhone just because it’s newer.

  23. Some of you have impossibly high standards lol. It really isn't a bad look at all. I like the cool feeling of it, it's almost like a relief from the heat and humidity of the south. What I will say is that it seems very bottom heavy with lighting. The top third is noticeably darker than the bottom third and the shadows seem a lot more pronounced. Small accent lighting could've helped add depth.

  26. Better Gray buys them than Coastal, who is the only other plausible buyer. Not even Marquee would waste money on these clunkers.

  27. My 2 cents on the issue about Allen Media.... I don't think Gray Media is going to aquire them. Gray already had other things to do, like make WANF independent, for them to care about what Allen Media is doing. And with the current FCC rules in place, they can't own some of the stations, and they definitely can't place the Allen stations programming on a Gray Media station and sell them. Plus, Allen has yet to find a buyer for their stations. Saying Gray Media will just buy Allen Media sounds a little childish in my opinion.

  28. It absolutely has. Those stations are permabroken and destined to be rumps of their former Gray competition. No one else is going to waste their money on properties Byron Allen squandered.

  29. Why would Hearst—or any group not named Gray—waste money like that? Allen destroyed those stations to the point where any buyer is going to have to burn money just to get them back up to par. Talk about a money pit. The only obvious outcome is Gray buying the OW stations (along with the rest of the Allen stations) and they become shells of WSAW and WMTV. They all qualify for failed station waivers.

  30. Money. Money. Money. It all depends which stations are hiring their goals. It has nothing to do with what they need. They have to figure out how to pay for it like an entrepreneur. Each station is their own LLC. I love the set. It’s beautiful. So much better than Gray’s crappy attempt with KCBD.
