That didn't stop WJXT or WHDH from trying after losing network affiliations themselves. You can operate a news-heavy operation with the right investments made, along with strong marketing.3 points

The few Tegna-owned CW affiliates left, including WCCT, are good with the network until 2026. And Perry already said two years ago that KUSI would take the CW affiliation from KFMB .2, so Tegna can't wait to rid themselves of the network group-wide. (NOT counting KTTU, which is on paper a Tegna station but is run by Gray.)3 points

Half of mine were control room, half were inserted by master control. Fun fact: Hearst has/had a heavily modded version of Vizrt. They developed the original diagrid package that when the first lower third in a block would trigger from the control room, it would auto-trigger the bug in master control. (If I remember that correctly). Some CBS stations back in the day ran their newscast bugs out of LIDIA which was usually kept in master.2 points

Isn't that retransmission consent to begin with? But there's stuff that's going on much worse than the KYW/WKYC trade, RKO General, and probably even the things that cost WLBT and WJIM (WLNS) their licenses back then. Retrans is out of control, but NBC/Comcast is probably the most cooperative out all of the networks in terms of the partnership between affiliate and network.2 points

Delaware native Kelsey Kushner is joining NBC 10 as a reporter and fill-in anchor on Aug 18. https://www.nbcphiladelphia.com/community/kelsey-kushner-joins-nbc10-philadelphia-as-reporter/4243460/2 points

Now that the ABC and WABC operations are in one building, we are now seeing the shared resources (talent included) for both national and local productions. Jeff Smith and Lee Goldberg have appeared on World News Tonight many times now. Yesterday also marked Lee's 29th year with WABC. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DMskm6OMA3_/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=YWoxeDRjYmY0dWJ02 points

In the overnight hours TWC decided to air KITV's coverage (which is owned by Allen Media) of the Tsunami instead of having their own coverage. At times they did not take commercial breaks and at times coverage would be suddenly interrupted with a commercial. I only watched for a couple hours but was going back and forth between TWC and Fox Weather. Fox Weather actually had good live coverage.2 points

Don't you mean WJXT in Jacksonville as WJKT is a FOX affaliate in Jackson, TN?2 points

Where do they get money to invest in WANF to be all news? I didn’t think it was highly rated to begin with. Without CBS, I’m sure they’ll be a big drop in viewers.2 points

NBC is beyond the most reasonable RTC'ers and hasn't revoked an affiliation outside the WHDH situation, and this is stupid. NBC was proactive in equal time by bringing him an equivalent audience to the Kamala appearance. They resolved the dispute right away, and yet he's still going after them. Crossing my fingers that they do fight and this doesn't get stupider; you know advertiser refusal for something idiotic (bad BBB record/account in arrears but is 'oppressed by The Man') is going to be next.1 point

ICYW, Tiki Barber left CBS, but will still be busy on Sundays & other days Giants play as well, as he'll be a part of the Giants radio pre & postgame shows. https://www.giants.com/news/giants-and-audacy-s-wfan-extend-play-by-play-partnership-tiki-barber-pregame-postgame-show1 point

How much longer is WISH in Indianapolis affiliated with them? Had Nexstar been in charge back then of WTTV/WXIN, they would have probably kept "Plan A" to move the CW to 4.2 after getting CBS. That's probably the plan once their contract with WISH is up.1 point

One thing I noticed is that they seemed to have eliminate the commercial break at 4:58 in the mornings. There used to be a break at that time, they now go until 5:00 and read something along the lines of “Eyewitness News This Morning continues now” and go to the team open (or the Breaking News open today and yesterday)1 point

I do think NYC is one of those few markets with a sizable 4am audience and a lot of breaking news. Sam (seemingly) doesn’t do weather forecasting for at WABC anymore. He only appears for Mornings@10 and has also seemingly been added as a permanent fixture on GMA again.1 point

Very disappointing that the graphics didn't get updated... they just look out of place on such a nice new set...1 point

Does VDO even exist anymore? Their old web domain has gone dark since then, along with the website itself.1 point

While I agree with the scheduling part and I agree that redeye shifts running well after lunch is not healthy, has it actually been proven that working those hours contributed to the deaths of any of those reporters? I recall Lisa Colagrossi's husband speculated that in her case. In the case of 4 & 4:30 am newscasts I don't mind what Scripps is doing with recorded anchorless shows. Very little new news is actually happening, viewership isn't that high, and its easier on the the talent/photogs.1 point

KYW used to cover the time/temp above the bug on the 11PM repeat. Not so silly.1 point

Very glad they did this, I loved the classic theme but the original cut just feels out of place now, so this definitely helps! Didn't realize the national operation got a new set! Looks good!!1 point

Bold of anyone to assume that Carr will do anything based on FCC precedent and not use the commission as a political weapon and tool to enrich his friends. The GOP House and Senate will dutifully fall in line with whatever Carr demands, with either Susan Collins or Mitch or Murkowski clutching their pearls or some stupid stunt and it won’t matter because their votes are irrelevant to the outcome anyway. And the dems will be too feckless, useless and old to do anything. The fix is in.1 point

They’re a little inconsistent with the 5pm open. Sometimes it’s played sometimes not. Last night it was.1 point

Rolled out the new talent intro with Pedro. I always wondered why they never did one with Mike (or really the whole morning crew) even many months before his switch. https://abc7ny.com/videoClip/17031465/ Ironically the day they do it, he's not in and Michelle is filling in.1 point

Interesting update on Janice. She was just on last week. I like WABC’s use of the networks talent lately. Rhiannon Ally filling in for Shirleen this morning.1 point

Should CBS opt to change channel 69’s call letters, WCBA is available (for CBS Atlanta), since UPN, the network that its current calls reference, hasn’t existed in almost 20 years.0 points

Same case with WLMT here in Memphis, which TEGNA owns along with WATN. Nexstar would love nothing more than to move the CW over to one of WREG's (and WJKT also) subchannels.0 points

I imagine it wouldn't be all that hard to set things up in such a way that the time/temp bug is the last thing added -- after the point in the video chain where the recording is made.0 points

Im one of the 4:30am viewers so I like seeing everyone there and Brittany is great. Not for nothing but what is Sams shift exactly. GMA goes on at 7 and he often is on SM going into work at like 6, he can't do the noon newscast? If not then Im surprised they don't have Dani and Jeff split the noon.0 points

It shows the kind of impact you made when you're still remembered after you passed away. That's Elise Finch and WCBS remembered this last week two years after her passing. What a continued sweet gesture.0 points
