I think Boston has that trophy as well.... 1960?, 1972, 1995, 2016. BOS also has two stations that lost their licenses and were replaced by a different licensee on same frequencies.4 points

Half of mine were control room, half were inserted by master control. Fun fact: Hearst has/had a heavily modded version of Vizrt. They developed the original diagrid package that when the first lower third in a block would trigger from the control room, it would auto-trigger the bug in master control. (If I remember that correctly). Some CBS stations back in the day ran their newscast bugs out of LIDIA which was usually kept in master.3 points

This is potentially devastating to the Louisville market, especially for the folks at WDRB, or WAVE if Gray decides to "trade up" if WDRB is truly outperforming WAVE. But knowing Gray and the draconian moves they made this past fall, it's going to be ugly as an inferior voice takes over a stronger one, and opens the door to cutting more local content in favor or regionalism for all of their stations in the region. And WDRB is a great station in it's own right, and has a lot of experienced talented people both on and behind the camera. Where else would a station revere their news director who decided to move on to another role with a standing ovation from their newsroom? (He later returned to WDRB, and if I'm not mistaken, is still there). Getting WLIO will give them a "big 4 monopoly", unless Marquee wants to play with the full-powered license they acquired from WTLW. And in Central Illinois, WAND is just another Gray station, unless they decide to pick off anything that Rincon controls now that they've "separated" from Sinclair. In the scheme of things, I have to wonder how Gray is going to pay for all of this, and what it will cost their existing stations in the future?2 points

Let’s not forget WPLG had a 7-9am block on WSFL not too long ago. This is just a return to form after a brief hiatus.2 points

Spectrum did light up LLT yesterday, though you wouldn't know it's called LLT as there are no promos or bugs calling it such; it's basically the main Local News Live feed as a regular old 1080i cable channel. Commerical breaks are a DRTV/PSA/Gray promo black hole rather than local ads on the web/Zeam feeds. Hopefully they do a lot better to adjust the channel to being a cable channel in the next few weeks, because my first impression is that they need to adjust a bit as far as presentation.2 points

It won’t surprise me if WMUR also gets the boxier looking graphics when they switch over.2 points

Sooner or later we'll be like Canada where the (remaining) networks will decimate local content in favor of strong regionalism or outright national delivery of most content. CBS and their O&Os have gone the furthest in this direction in terms of their branding. I just await the day when the networks tell the NFL to pound sand and they start suffering. Time and time again, I say that it's a tax on the American TV consumer, and it needs to stop NOW.2 points

Little public service announcement. Please don't report posts that you simply don't like. That's an abuse of the feature. Don't let it happen again, and I hope to not see anyone else report a certain post in this thread. No rules are being broken by having a differing opinion.1 point

WLTZ (Columbus, Ga) KJTV (Lubbock, TX) looks like this will become property of Gray TV https://www.adweek.com/tvspy/gray-looks-to-buy-two-stations-from-sagamore-hill-broadcasting/1 point

You expect anything less from this legendary morning news program? If you can get Dan and Robin to laugh, then you've made it as a comedian, IMHO.1 point

I do forsee they'll be a little more okay than most of these situations since the WDRB facility is much larger and newer (so I don't see how WAVE just doesn't move in there), but there will be some attrition for sure if the deal does get approved. I can see WBKI going the owners of WMYO-CD as far as the license and then getting Spirited away for sure to take care of that discrepancy as Block and them have been cooperative for years. But in another way this does show that Block's fights against their newspaper staffs in Pittsburgh and Toledo are taking their toll if they're ready to cash out.1 point

Yes the 1998 switch which was the dumbest move on Sinclair broadcasting part between WLFL and at the time new station WRAZ. WRDC after losing NBC I believe assumed UPN afterwards wasn’t really an affiliation switch since WNCN was independent before becoming NBC. And then WRDC was the one losing NBC and becoming independent and picked up UPN afterwards but yes I’m counting the 1998 switch.1 point

Are you counting the WB/UPN/ My Net/CW switches in there? Those I haven't kept up with lol.1 point

Im just starting to realize Miami number 2 with the most affiliation switches with 3 89’, 95’, 25’. Raleigh, North Carolina has had the most with 4 affiliation switches 85’, 95’, 98’, 16’. But I’m a couple of years I see this happening again in the 305. I wonder if Miami is coming to tie us. lol.1 point

Yes, Mega TV is still on the air. HQ is still there along the Palmetto (SR 826 in Doral).1 point

I think that was the point, a CW/FOX style long continuous block of morning news. Agreed that ABC 18's schedule is not bad. I'm also surprised --and impressed -- that 18 opted to pay for syndicated programming in time-slots already covered by 7 News. Examples airing Extra at 10 and Tamron Hall at 4 when they could have just simulcasted 7 News.1 point

It's not the size, but the brightness. WBBH was able to compensate, but it looks more like a moon than a sun, so they just need to find a proper icon.1 point

More Gray moves...this time it's two SagamoreHill stations they already manage. They plan to purchase WLTZ in Columbus, GA and KJTV in Lubbock, TX with the old "Failing Station Waiver" trick. https://tvnewscheck.com/business/article/gray-media-to-buy-two-tv-stations-from-sagamorehill/ With the rumored stripping of the CW from Bahakel's WCCB in Charlotte, and other rumors of Bahakel cashing out, it could be a future out for WNCF in Montgomery if Gray decides to shack them up with WSFA...It's a third wheel that a future buyer of WAKA/WBMM would love to get rid of.1 point

With the 2026 Winter Olympics coming up, when will the network (and at the very least, their O&O stations) be bringing back the Olympic rings underneath the Peacock? For the 2024 Summer Olympics, the rings came back on January 1 - 207 days before the Paris opening ceremony. Right now we are 190 days from the Milan opening ceremony and the "regular" logo is still being used.1 point

For all we know, they may have entered into a (shelled) outsourcing agreement where Sinclair provides services to Rincon to evade ownership rules. Sinclair's gonna Sinclair. Prove me wrong.1 point

NBC is beyond the most reasonable RTC'ers and hasn't revoked an affiliation outside the WHDH situation, and this is stupid. NBC was proactive in equal time by bringing him an equivalent audience to the Kamala appearance. They resolved the dispute right away, and yet he's still going after them. Crossing my fingers that they do fight and this doesn't get stupider; you know advertiser refusal for something idiotic (bad BBB record/account in arrears but is 'oppressed by The Man') is going to be next.1 point

I do think NYC is one of those few markets with a sizable 4am audience and a lot of breaking news. Sam (seemingly) doesn’t do weather forecasting for at WABC anymore. He only appears for Mornings@10 and has also seemingly been added as a permanent fixture on GMA again.1 point

Are they going to add another Meteorologist as Sam is on GMA all the time lately? I don't really like having the morning meteorologist staying on air until 1pm after being on air since 4:30am. Schedules like this contributed to the deaths of Lisa Colagrossi, Katherine Creag and Elise Finch.1 point

KMIR had recently switch to the new logo in December of last year, but on the OSB, and WPMI recently changed to that logo during the 10PM newscast last night.1 point

NBC has used the "curtain raiser" before; in the '50s it used a camera and the words "NBC Television Presents." By the early '60s that was changed to the NBC "snake" logo and "NBC Presents." As for the "Eyewitness"/"Action" branding, yes, some stations could use a name change: WSB has had "Action News" since I was in college in the '70s. Its sister stations in Charlotte and Orlando have had "Eyewitness News" since I was in high school. But I can imagine the fuss, especially in Atlanta, if the names were changed; it would be comparable to WXIA's attempt to drop "11 Alive." And besides, can you imagine (if you live in New York, Los Angeles, or Chicago) not having "ABC7 Eyewitness News"? op .='[1 point

Some of those feathers were hard to make out when watching their one-off simulcast of Sunday Leadoff. It's easy to lose sight of that green one, for instance, when looking at the outfield. You'd run into a similar problem if they continue pace during the non-SNF football games, let alone that and Notre Dame + B1G football this upcoming season. In my opinion, if they want to use this new "logo" like this during sports, it needs, at minimum, a somewhat-transparent background. CBS did that with their sports bugs last year after making a similar mistake coming out of Super Bowl LV.1 point
-
That explains it-- movie theaters used to do that as well (raise the curtains to get to the feature that one was seeing); not sure they do that anymore.1 point
-
Exactly that; you're being transferred from the local station over to the network feed, where the curtain is being raised on both the network programming, and then a presentation produced by the network itself in that show. It's the same reason it originated even in the days of radio where you had 'The National Broadcasting Company presents...' lead into a show.1 point

"wind-down of its operations" and cut a majority of its jobs by the end of September" commeuppance, as they say. "Much health" as we would say in Bulgaria all the people bitching about PBS/NPR could just donate, they pay $10 for tub of "latte" every day we've been lectured about how essential PBS is, if it were essential PBS now won't have to lay anyone off just like they didn't during the 2008 crash when stations like WTVJ were almost wiped off the map0 points

In Boston, WB and UPN were always on the same channels (56 & 38). CW has always been on 56. MyNet (is that even really still a thing?) Started on 50, moved to 38, and is currently not cleared in Boston.0 points
