  1. What’s amazing is the likes of Scott Jennings and pretty much the entirety of the Fox News primetime lineup indulge in wild speculation daily, but one commentator over at another building is booted for pointing out that someone factually trafficked in heated, inflammatory rhetoric as his entire public persona.

  2. Divisive is perhaps the most mild way he could have phrased it. What is the magic time we can state with clarity the truth of a situation? The bigger issue is the abject failure to adequately cover yet another school shooting. That is the epidemic in the country. Innocent kids being shot day after day after day in classrooms from coast to coast. The kids deserve far more of our attention, but our collective priorities are warped.

  3. I disagree. There are lots of horrible hateful political figures all over the world, not being allowed to point out the fact that they spew hate or do hateful things when they die makes zero sense to me and I have not seen this applied to other horrible people who have been killed. All the comments I have read from actual MSNBC viewers are outraged that he was fired. Viewers are also upset at how much coverage MSNBC has given this compared to the horrific school shooting that happened on the same day. Under Rebecca Kutler MSNBC seems so disconnected from its audience.

  4. I don't know if you mean to or not but it kind of sounds like you're excusing such behaviors. The last thing I say on this subject is...we're human beings. Rudeness slips out at times. Let's make a better effort to not have the threads devolve into constant condescension and insults.

  5. Reading this. I do not get why Rusty or whatever his name is going to be in a few months is trying to make a point about this one station when it's obvious that the television market is becoming heavily consolidated and no new owners are popping up. It's not like Scripps could make the best out of that station so they took the ball home. If anything, Rusty should actually own a station and feel how hard it is to make a station successful in this market. Just look at the Cadillac, MI failure NewsNet.

  6. Even 24 years later, a generation later, the horror and the pain and the scope of 9/11 continues to endure. It actually feels worse now to watch the events unfold than it did years ago because of the scope of the disaster and how much we know now than we did at that time. So, I don't expect it to end anytime soon actually, and here's why: The effects of this tragedy rocked the world as we know it, to some degree, every bit of modern society to this very moment has some recollection of the day. It changed how we do life. So for that reason alone, it's an event that will never be and never should be forgotten. It was arguably one of the darkest days in modern history. Until we collectively overcome this as a human race maybe in several hundred years, I don't see these ceremonies ending in my lifetime. The ceremonies will probably evolve when they feel right to, but I don't see it ending at least not in our lifetimes. It's kinda like how COVID "ended" our relationship with the disease evolved its still very well around but we've learned how to live with it in our shadows. One would argue, why don't we do a COVID memorial every year? The pain of 9/11 however is a different type of pain, though its a pain that was born through evil acts. And that kind of pain is far more greater in my opinion. Even though I don't personally know anyone affected. I feel the pain and the grief of those who were involved because these were ordinary people like us here, just having a normal day, who went to work and never came back home and that's why it's so painful and heartbreaking and why we continue to commemorate the lost every year. The victims families have to live with this day in and day out, the grief is with them forever so its a way to remind them that we are with them and we feel them as well. But going back on topic here, it seems like all the stations aired the ceremonies as expected and the programs were pre-empted or aired on the digital sub channels as it has been for the last 24 years.

  7. It shouldn't matter where someone stands politically. It is simply unacceptable that a commentator would use subjective and negative phrases to describe the deceased, especially when he was shot just minutes prior. He could have reserved that language for another time and it wouldn't have been so controversial. But the fact he did not showed poor judgement and the network ultimately acted appropriately in its response to it.

  8. MSNBC continues to show that it is out of touch with its audience. There is nothing he said that the average MSNBC would not agree with. Former MSNBC hosts like Katie Phang and Joy Reid are putting out shows on YouTube with way better commentary than anything you see on MSNBC. Actions like this is just going to drive more of MSNBC's core audience away from the network and towards these type of streaming shows.

  9. Spot on, unfortunately, Rusty is going to probably ignore your post and instead target mreKCTV5's post above mine because he would rather continue with the things that should never be a part of the forum and unfortunately the mods aren't going to do a thing about it either.

  10. While observations of 9/11 aren't as big as years past outside of major anniversaries like the 20th, 9/11 is still very relevant. I think It's stuck around more than other historic tragedies like Pearl Harbor because it was caught on "modern" video from hundreds of angles and it played out on live tv. Moreover, much of the last 20 years and today have been shaped by 911 such as the Afghan and Iraq wars, and having airport security. It's pretty telling that no one really talks about the events like 2017 Las Vegas massacre much anymore but 9/11 which happened 24 years ago is still talked about on a daily basis. Unlike the onslaught of similar style mass shootings in the last 15 years, 9/11 was unique. We've never saw foreign terrorists fly passenger jets kamikaze style into major skyscrapers and military structures before. Lower Manhattan turned into nuclear winter was a unique site that will always have staying power.

  11. It’s sad to say but 9/11 is a day… the only day.. for a few short hours Americans are one united nation. I was in 3rd grade and will never forget that morning or the days and years that followed. I hope the coverage from our stations do not change anytime soon.

  12. This is awful news. Sincrap now controls WjAR (NBC) and WLNE (ABC). Nexstar controls WPRI (CBS), WNAC (FOX) and the CW. There are no more independent voices in Rhode Island media. WJAR is nothing like its former self. Although WLNE has been a perennial also run since they signed on the air in the 60s, at least it was controlled by these mega broadcasters, who in Sinclair's case controls content. I assume the WLNE newsroom is gone. Another sad day in Rhode Island this week.

  13. Now-former WLNE meteorologist Kelly Bates says the station has been picked up by Sinclair. I say "now-former" because she says she was a victim of layoffs.

  14. Agreed. He said nothing wrong. Why is MSNBC so quick to have standards of verbal censorship for people who have none? NOTE:, this is not an attack on conservative ideology or pro Democrat, this is just pointing out the current situation. I'd disagree. Let's remind ourselves that many followers on Kirk's side of the aisle were making fun of the Minnesota lawmakers who were assassinated moments after their killings. They also called the attack on Nancy Pelosi's husband a homosexual conspiracy moments after it happened. Any accusations of inappropriate timing on their part would be the pot calling the kettle black.

  15. Dowd was correct in what he said but the timing was undoubtedly bad. There’s still so much we don’t know about the situation even at this hour so speculation should be avoided in general and MSNBC was right to determine that the speculation in that manner violated their standards.

  16. Not when politicians can use prescripted statements to avoid answering anything. They pulled this on ABC's This Week in 2017.

  17. Although I personally agree with what Dowd said, there is a time to say that. Minutes after his shooting wasn't the time when (and still as of 6 am Thursday morning) we do not have any suspect as the shooter and what that person's motivation is. The more that is disclosed of how professional of a hit this was, puts a lot of doubt in mind. It also goes both ways. Folks on Fox News are pointing fingers without knowing the motivation, and we have a certain dictatorial type leader going on a bender video blaming the "radical left" and referring to a war. Those as well as at least one GOP member of Congress statements are equally wrong yet you can be assured none of them will be fired or criticized by segments of the population. Their comments were equally inappropriate. And many were lacking in comments or empathy when members of the other party have been assassinated (e.g. Minnesota) or attempted (e.g. Pennsylvania). Political violence is wrong no matter any way someone tries to justify it. Sadly, some people's messages including dear leader only incite than condemn. Dowd could have phrased it differently and been okay.

  20. I ain't tryin' to change your mind but okay... Southwest Florida isn't a small market, it's more medium sized. Plus, if both parties (In Question, the Waterman family, especially Edith who wanted to sell WBBH and the LMA for WZVN before her 100th birthday; and Hearst) are okay and approve it, it's a deal. Come on, it's a sale that had already been completed, why be so troublesome about it? Plus, Hearst rarely even buys (or sells) stations. Just calm down and appreciate that it wasn't SINCLAIR acquiring them.

  21. Especially when you're a grown man handling this in a very inappropriate manner. We are all gonna have different opinions and that's nothing we can't handle but to talk to us in a condescending way makes you look bad. Not to mention going overboard. This isn't even the first time he's done this.

  23. November 30th, 1999 - A rare KATU newscast opening with the husband and wife duo of John Marler and Cathy Marshall at 5pm. However, this was the day huge protests broke out in Seattle because of a WTO meeting. As a result... after a minute or so, KATU went straight to simulcast KOMO's coverage of the events with the dream team of Dan Lewis and Kathi Goertzen (RIP) at the helm.

  24. On this 20th Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina... Compelling coverage from the storm's aftermath Today (2005). Unimportant side note: It's also great to see more late era Katie footage. The blue wall behind the anchors really downgraded during this period but got a good refresh when Meredith came in. WWL Coverage after the levees broke (2005). They were on a college campus in Baton Rouge with technical assistance from students. It was amazing to see how they were understandably using what appears to be college newscast graphics after the storm.

  25. Just chiming in on this thread. Actually, I composed and produced music for 5 Seattle market TV stations at the same time which all ran concurrently. KOMO TV KING TV KIRO TV KTZZ TV KCPQ TV None of the stations were aware I had done most all of their competitors. This is the first mention of it. There were other stations added to the list. WTVD, WTNH, KOVR, WIXT, KDFW and a few others. Thank you for the info. posted on this site. Dan Dean Dan Dean Productions

  26. My point is, if you think trump is an evil fascist dictator and you turn on NBC News and see Kristin Welker doing another one of her softball interviews with the evil fascist dictator, what does that say about the credibility of NBC News to anti trump viewers? He refuses to do interviews with anyone from MSNBC because he knows the type of questions he would get from MSNBC are different than that he would get from NBC News. The fact that trump sees NBC News as a desirable platform to do interviews speaks for itself in my opinion, he's rage tweeting against MSNBC hosts and trying to get Comcast to fire them, yet he's NOT doing that to anyone from NBC News, he's texting and sitting for interviews with NBC News. They may not be at FOX News level in terms of trying to ridiculously spin everything he is doing into a positive, but they are not even remotely hostile to him, his administration, or ICE the way MSNBC is. People are not watching MSNBC to see the type of news programming NBC puts out and with the way things have gone the association with NBC News is hurting the network with its core audience a lot more than it's helping. If you talk to people who are regular viewers of MSNBC, one of the biggest complaints about the network is it is not hostile enough towards trump and the republican party, but everyone agrees it's at least better than the total garbage every other American news source is putting out.
