  1. If Kimmel saying the shooter is MAGA is reckless, then so is all the right-wingers saying the shooter is from the left.

  2. Make no mistake: this isn’t just the cancellation of a late-night talk show. This is a neon-lit symptom of America’s degenerative attention span, corporate cowardice, and our collective descent into curated stupidity. And don’t you dare try to convince me it was just about ratings. This is what happens when a culture trades character for content, when it silences the jesters because the kings got tired of being mocked. It’s what happens when we stop laughing at power and start laughing with it. ABC didn’t cancel Jimmy Kimmel. America did. And it should be ashamed.

  3. It's just insane what has happened to America's media companies. They are all a disgrace. I used to worry about the decline and cutbacks at traditional media because there is so much fake news online, but CBS, ABC, NBC, CNN, Nexstar, etc. have all decided they want to appease the far right and the far right only. They are all terrified of the far right dictator in the white house and the FCC and worried about him harming their other assets. Our media companies are as credible as the media companies in China and Russia. Jimmy Kimmel doesn't need his ABC show. He talks about leaving all the time.

  4. He is not a journalist. He stated an opinion as is his prerogative. And there is a great deal we do not know about this highly suspect case. But that is neither here nor there. The FCC making threats over content is the issue.

  5. Exactly. He said he grew up up in a MAGA household which is a fact. Snowflakes don't like the facts. In the end this is censorship with more threatened by Carr and trump. We still have a Constitution and First Amendment. Those are at odds with each other. We have the right to praise, criticize, mock or whatever else as long as we don't make threats. That is illegal and crosses a line. It is time broadcasters fight back and protect our freedoms. The capitulation to trump only emboldens him to do mare, with ABC and CBS paving that way.

  6. Except that “the left” didn’t have government agencies use Sopranos-level extortion (we can do this the easy way or the hard way). The boycotts from all sides get to be a bit confusing to track, but that’s basic freedom at work. Don’t want to buy/watch/patronize whoever, great. This is a whole different level.

  7. The only thing worse than Kimmel getting yanked off the air is the all-too-soon reality that the no-talent ass clown Jimmy Fallon will be the last late show standing. At least back in 1993 the USA was in a FAR better place even in the infancy of the Bill Clinton days... Before I end my rant..... (Dirty language ahead) FUCK Perry Sook... FUCK Nexstar. AND FUCK Donald Trump!

  8. This. The rules apply to thee, not to me. Except that Kimmel’s statement actually has more to back it up at the time. Heck, it still does. Now, let’s be honest amongst ourselves. What he said was not about the victim. It was about the accused, alleged perpetrator. And those who were and are in mourning were not likely to be Kimmel viewers. It defies logic to assume that generally benign statement of opinion was reaching a large swath of the victim’s followers.

  9. I smell dictatorship… Trump really is coming for the broadcast networks ABC could get really hurt from this and they have no spine so there letting this happen to them.

  10. That would require ABC to have a spine, which they very obviously don't.

  11. It's absurd that Sinclair as a company is so upset about this. To be certain, the "outrage" is from the Sinclair ownership specifically. It's wild that THEY are acting so offended as if Kimmel was talking about THEM being the assassin. It's also grandstanding on behalf of your stations that may very well have an audience that likes Kimmel. Huh? Stations get dozens of calls and emails daily from people that are mad about something. If we "weren't allowed" to contact them they wouldn't have their addresses, phone numbers, emails and socials for every public talent, plastered all over their websites.

  12. Fascism isn’t coming. It’s here. Never mind the irony that the person being mourned as a victim of an absolutely heinous crime is memorialized as being a champion of free speech. Kimmel’s comments apparently don’t count.

  13. I don't see how that's possible. He refused to "apologize" (apologizing would be absurd as he has nothing to apologize for) and he has no reason to apologize in the future because he doesn't need the job. He has tons of money and an amazing family he loves to spend time with, there are tons of other things he can make money doing, and since he has no reason to apologize, bringing the show back would just put Disney in the exact same position they are now. Disney is terrified of upsetting trump and they know bringing the show back would just make him furious. The ABC sources talking to deadline seem out of touch with reality of what just happened here. It's not like ABC just cancelled tonight's taping and put Jimmy Kimmel Live in repeats for the rest of the week for the situation to die down, his show was yanked from the schedule immediately & indefinitely. When Megyn Kelly & Sharon Osborne made racist comments on Megyn Kelly Today & The Talk, NBC and CBS still aired repeats of both shows until they both departed the network. Disney's actual decisions don't imply this is temporary at all and it seems like the ABC sources are trying to make it seem like it will be up to Jimmy Kimmel when the reality is Disney & ABC caved to MAGA.

  14. If ABC and Nexstar think the soap fans were out for blood after their shows got cancelled, this is unknown territory. They basically punished the rest of the country because Perry Sook's (and likely David Smith) feelings got offended, and even if late night's audience has dwindled, that is a tentpole like their New York morning circuit. I didn't even know this was still possible with iron-clad affiliation agreements since we haven't seen this since all the Southern affiliates got Grayed and Nexstared up (even KSL carries NBC now in full without any objections). Get out the popcorn, because Colbert was nice enough to be a gentleman. That's not happening with Jimmy, especially with his Brooklyn week coming up. And seeing ABC News just deteriorate after they made George capitulate has been even more silently apparent compared to CBS.

  15. It's just interesting how Nexstar is so bold in their press release craving media attention about bringing down Jimmy Kimmel, but when it comes to a major left wing market the Nexstar station is claiming it's all on ABC. The people protesting outside Disney should also protest outside KTLA. Nexstar deserves just as much negative backlash as ABC and Disney do for this decision, and it's about time Nexstar stations start to suffer in left wing markets. LA's Very Own is owned by the MAGA far right

  16. Of course, because there is no way to discuss this without making Disney and ABC look like pro-MAGA censors that only care about those on the far right. In the little coverage ABC News has given the story, they act like the FCC gave them no choice. While the FCC chairperson did make a threat towards ABC, no official action was taken. I think the U.S. government is no different than the government of Russia as they have proven rules and laws don't matter to them, but in this case they never actually took action against ABC, if ABC is going to try and blame the FCC for this, they should have let the process play out and see what the FCC actually ended up doing, self censoring yourself before the authoritarian government actually gets a chance to do anything just shows how weak and spineless Disney and ABC are. It also says to viewers that they shouldn't trust anything they see on ABC News because the network has flat out admitted that they are terrified of upsetting the far right authoritarian government. CBS News proved you can't trust anything they broadcast by hiring a far right MAGA ombudsman to police coverage and ABC isn't even willing to keep an entertainment comedy show on the air, and the ABC News program where they discuss :hot topics" isn't allowed to talk about it. As I said before. U.S. media is now no different than media in China or Russia. Australia's ABC News asks tough questions to Trump, because Australia still has credible media outlets, America's ABC News "journalists" know that if they ask any questions that upset Trump, Disney will fire them.

  17. no. The shooter is an obvious leftist. You have to be blind, deaf, dumb and a liar to claim otherwise. We can all read that savage's text and discord messages. Even me, English as third language and having failed it at 8th grade in eastern europe, can read and understand also "Charlie Kirk is a Nazi" totally something something on the right would say about Kirk which part of lying on TV while holding an FCC license was hard for you to comprehend? I thought we were supposed to battle misinformation and disable those people's social media and everything else

  23. It was kind of telling how KTLA opened its 10:00pm newscast tonight with the story that ABC had pulled Jimmy Kimmel Live while barely acknowledging their beloved owner Nexstar's major role. As Cher explained a misleading timeline of events she made no mention that Nexstar put out a press release attacking Jimmy Kimmel and saying they would refuse to air the show, saying only that "ABC made the decision after the FCC chairmen suggested they may take action against the network". While later on the report did mention that "Nexstar, KTLA's parent company, also announced that it would be pulling Kimmel from its ABC affiliates" this was the only mention of Nexstar's involvement. Why was KTLA so afraid to highlight the actions of their parent company? I mean this is the same network that relentlessly demonized the anti ICE protesters non stop back in June. Are they just now starting to realize that being part of Nexstar's MAGA empire is not going to pay off in Southern California?
    1 point
  24. Ah, yes. Punishing all of the network's affiliates because of the actions of those two companies. That'll go over well. That's rich coming from the company that makes its stations air propaganda pieces during newscasts. Also, Kimmel can make a personal donation to the Kirk family, but he is under no obligation to donate to TPUSA.

  25. They make Nexstar look very moderate as a result. Also, where would the affiliations go to? It's not like there's better options in many of the markets.

  28. I emailed my local affiliates with ABC, Nexstar, and Sinclair to let them know that I will not be watching their stations for the time being. I expect nothing to come of this, but I need my displeasure to be known.

  29. This move almost feels like the F.C.C. got it's way over ABC & Disney. Okay Mr. Kimmel may have said something in-sensitive, but at the same time it feels like ABC & Disney aren't going to stand up for there late night show, kinda lame. I 100% Agree with tyrannical bastard and what he posted up above the network doesn't have a license & now ABC is just following what Mr. Sook is doing, LAME!!!!

  33. Brendan Carr and all of his cronies are idiots because... ABC AND THE OTHER NETWORKS DO NOT HAVE FCC LICENSES!!! Only the stations themselves are licensed and liable for their operation. And given the sway the networks have over their affiliates, that discretion is very limited. All it takes is an oligarch like Perry Sook to make a fuss and then the network relents...

  34. I cant stand Kimmel ranting about Trump EVERYnight....BUT what a joke. The same people who were advocating for free speech in the wake of a politically motivated murder, are the same people censoring free speech that they do not agree with. The fact that they don't see the irony in this is one giant South Park episode. This gives creedence to the theories that Stephen Colbert was pulled off the air because of Trump. But this situation is definitely not debatable and is clearly a result of the Trump administration. Americans only thought right wing propaganda was present on Fox News until that Sinclair video dropped, and more people became aware of third-party local TV affiliate ownership. This situation definitely doesn't look good for Nexstar, and makes them look just as bad as Sinclair. Well, Stephen Colbert can now go as crazy as he wants to since he has nothing to lose....or maybe CBS pulls him off the air instantly. Jimmy Fallon can do an interesting thing here as the last man standing. Either close his mouth and continue his job where he minimally speaks on politics, or stand with the other two hosts. I wouldn't fault him for choosing either. ** Seth Meyers is also still on. He's pretty vocal. His fate remains to be seen.

  36. Not when politicians can use prescripted statements to avoid answering anything. They pulled this on ABC's This Week in 2017.

  37. This is never going to happen. The only ones who should be giving an apology is Disney, ABC, Nexstar, and Sinclair. Jimmy Kimmel Live's ratings surpassed NBC's The Tonight Show because he focused on politics. It might be annoying to MAGA, but MAGA has lots of other things to watch. The country is never going to unify, the right has gone way too extreme for that to ever happen.

  38. I'm wondering if they will even mention the topic. The story is nowhere to be found on abcnews.com. It was the lead story on the hearst owned ABC station WCVB Boston's 11:00pm newscast, yet the story is missing entirely from ABC owned stations websites in LA and New York. I'm wondering if ABC even had any say in the matter or if it was just a order from Disney. The far right was not watching Jimmy Kimmel Live. Kimmel had been going after Trump and republicans for years, and I remember reading interview from years ago with him saying ABC told him to stop and he refused. He didn't need the show, ABC needed him, they kept signing new contracts giving him things like the entire summer off with his kids to get him to stay. By cancelling Jimmy Kimmel Live, they are hurting the ABC brand with its actual audience. It's not like ratings crashed and advertisers were pulling their ads, yes some far right station groups pulled the show but it still would have aired in major markets and on hulu. Now they have upset their audience, ruined any ratings success in late night, and will likely have to pay Jimmy Kimmel the rest of his contract. I don't see how upsetting your audience and paying someone millions to not be on TV is good for the ABC network, but Disney doesn't want Trump to come after its more important assets so they don't care if ABC is harmed in this.
