Dude. This is even more mind-numbing than your usual Captain Obvious posts. She's been hired to be THE 10pm host, not the first in a rotation. They might have fill-ins over the holidays between Banfield and Pavlich, but not after Katie starts. Reading is your friend.3 points

Ratings? I don't think there were even advertisers. Big Advertisers Appear Wary of CBS News’ Bari Weiss Town Hall Format https://variety.com/2025/tv/news/advertisers-wary-cbs-news-bari-weiss-town-hall-1236608265/2 points

Could it be that Bari Weiss thought she landed Greg Gutfeld from Fox News?2 points

Loving the light fixture. It reminds me of their 2002 intro in my profile pic. Beaides that, meh on the Newsplex renderings. The front desk area looks too flat and barren. It doesn't appear immersed in the newsroom but rather separate. The new renderings also remove the iconic upstairs balcony view (from the front angle). The best was the OG newsplex from the 90s. It had depth and angles, and the lighting wasn't too fluorescent like it is now. The split video monitors were a staple, and IMO looked better than the seamless. But I suppose they can just create the split monitor effect on the video wall.1 point

What a loss this is, he’s a titan in Texas broadcasting. Generations of Texas families, mine included, have heard the news from Dave Ward over his 50 year broadcasting history at channel 13. The station has been a shell of its former self since he stepped down. RIP Dave Ward. “Good evening, friends.”1 point

If there's any consolation, hopefully he's living it up with Marvin Zindler right now... RIP to a legend.1 point

It’s interesting someone else brought up WPTV because I was thinking the same this week with Steve Weagle now leaving. I lived in South Florida for a bit and Channel 5 was a powerhouse. Their weather coverage was excellent and most of their reporters were amazing and either were seasoned veterans looking for sun or up and comers heading to bigger cities next. Jim Sackett and Kelly Dunn were the leaders of a great station. I would love to know what the hell happened because I check back in a few times a year and everything looks terrible from the graphics, the reporting and the generic set. In the last year they lost Kelly Dunn, Michael Williams, Shannon Cake and now Weagle. It’s like a fire sale at Scripps. The whole station is a relic of a titan they were. It’s a shame because this was a great station and now I see Channel 25 is kicking their butt and WPBF was a joke up until recently. What a shame.1 point

We just lost the greatest anchorman Houston has ever had, and one of the greatest anchormen this country has ever had. He needs no introduction, but in case one is required, former longtime KTRK anchor Dave Ward has died. He was 86 but spent 50 years as Houston's anchorman. RIP Dave. And for one more time, just for you, Dave, from me... Good evening, friend. https://abc13.com/post/dave-wards-life-legacy-newsman-abc13/6127424/1 point

Not sure if this is the best thread to put this but I'm unaware of one more relevant. It might be time for PBS to seriously rethink its spending at the corporate level - and beyond just talking about it. High-level corporate employees are receiving rather high salaries for what is legally a non-profit organization. The CEO of PBS received over a million dollars in 2023. That is completely unsustainable. If you're running a non-profit, I don't have a problem with you receiving a pay proportional to the work you're doing. And certainly as a CEO you deserve to be paid as you've worked hard to get to that position. But over a million dollars just in one year? I'm not sure under what circumstances that would ever be considered appropriate levels of pay for a nonprofit educational TV network - with or without Federal funding. It certainly won't solve the shortfall induced by losing Federal funds. But if PBS cuts spending at the corporate office to something more appropriate, maybe they won't need to charge as much to its member stations.1 point

Well KTUL has a meteorologist that will be handling the weekday evenings and that is Kirsten Lang (formerly at KJRH years ago). She returned to Tulsa TV this evening at 5pm, so it will be her and Joie handling weather for Tulsa while OKC’s team will continue to help when either of them need off and OKC will still handle weekend shows (which is still stupid). One thing to note she wasn’t hired as the Chief Meteorologist that position is still being considered so there might be a chance she will end up as KTUL’s chief and would be the second female to be named the Chief at KTUL. I added her first full wx hit from the 5pm show. https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1Fza29sd8r/?mibextid=wwXIfr1 point

is gonna be yuge! 20K bigger than WTVJ and 10K over WPLG's building, the current plex is barely 2000 sq ft not including the anchor desk area unlikely they'll do away with the plex, it's not there to look populated, it's a backdrop and umpteen standup areas for live shots which they see as an advantage to rhythm and pace the newscast vs the competition. They also still have close to or more than 200 people working in the news department. ND/assist ND/ producers are coalesced around the news desk and hang out there when they're live. The problem they're debating is the space might be too big for anchors to pop in and out quickly like it's currently possible at the plex. Sounds like everyone will be getting their steps on the regular1 point

Bet you that they partially obscure (if not flat out cover over) that newsroom within a few years of moving in. Pretty bold to be building something that massive in this day and age. There's a reason you see fewer and fewer newsrooms on camera, and that's because they're slowly becoming big rooms with lots of empty desks.1 point

With CBS being a total dumpster fire now (their O&O's have had problems for decades), sadly this could be a future reality. Ever since the O&O's became "localized", they've been a shell of their former selves. In most of the markets where they overlap, Fox is the dominant station operator. And for those of us old enough to remember, this wouldn't be the first time the two companies shacked up...1 point

In an environment like this, it is possible. I could imagine there'd be absolute chaos when it comes to the markets that CBS is in, specifically Los Angeles where there would be two ancillary stations (KCAL and KCOP) under FOX operation competing with each other, FOX has been making KCOP more news intensive so I don't know what's going to happen when FOX takes over KCBS and KCAL through an LMA if they do so...1 point

This is just another news share agreement I’ll be okay. I remember when Fox 5 in New York had a news share agreement with NBC4 New York they would refer them as there sister station. I don’t see anything bad coming from this. Chicago also…1 point
