  1. I can't believe nobody wants to save traditional broadcasting. This is sad.

  2. It's not just the conflicts, but the new market additions if the cap is an issue. The conflicts come in play if there is an antitrust issue.

  3. I realized I was having trouble remembering all of the markets where there are likely conflicts, so I threw together a quick reference that I have to share as a screenshot because the forum doesn't accept PDFs.

  5. The big problem there of course being (figuratively) no one else will (when measured as a portion of the population). People care when something bad is happening, usually to them. They aren’t going to watch TWC when the biggest weather impact on their immediate future is whether they need an umbrella or not. We can point out that apps aren’t useful, but people by the millions use those to gauge what’s coming up, for better or worse. The economics for TWC to be able to go into “storm mode” and do it well depends on revenue every other day. Cheap options that some eyeballs are still preferable from an economic standpoint. It’s just reality of the 21st century.

  7. Understood. I just wanted to be able to see the conflict markets separate from the others.

  8. If they had just done the divestitures in the first place, we wouldn't be talking about this. In any case, I agree with you.

  9. I still think this merger is gonna go through just a lot of divestments.

  11. Lots of amazing talent from the networks, too. Matt Carothers, Ken Rudulph (who also spent time at KOVR/KMAX during his career), Todd Schrupp, Mike Joyce, Simon Bray, Christina Blacker, etc., are just a few I can think of who I watched over the year. For the record, when the networks were once separate as TVG and HRTV, I preferred TVG and their coverage every single time. Plus, it was available in more homes than HRTV so there was a better chance you'd get TVG over the other. Daily Racing Form (one of the most successful, if not THE most successful, horse racing newspapers out there) has a great article on its upcoming demise. Some bullet points: Starting in late 2026, it will simulcast feeds from its partner tracks instead of accompanying them with live studio shows within its Live Racing! banner (in the past, there were shows like Television Games, the network's former namesake, Trackside Live, :58 Flat, Drive Time, The Morning Line, and more). TVG will continue to operate as its account-wagering company, so the brand is not going away entirely. It will actually direct customers of its sports betting app, FanDuel, to TVG for horse racing bets, since there is a separate one for FanDuel Racing. Simulcast feeds from TVG's partner tracks (such as Gulfstream Park in my backyard) will continue to be available on the apps. Because of contractual obligations, onsite coverage and studio productions will continue through the end of the year at select locations, including Keeneland, Del Mar, the three Triple Crown races (Kentucky, Preakness, Belmont), and the Breeders' Cup. Some studio personnel will begin to be laid off in July, though some will be retained to produce that on-site coverage from those locations (mentioned above) through the end of November. https://www.drf.com/news/fanduel-tv-cease-operating-after-2027

  12. Not quite. New inserts, but in-game graphics are still the same as last year.

  13. I've never been able to get it on Spectrum (Wisconsin has pretty much bombed on anything involving parimutuel betting like greyhound racing and the Native American tribes have done gambling a lot better.) so I never saw it, but I will give them credit for sticking it out through so many iterations and ownership changes and sticking to their strengths, and I appreciate that they adjusted their schedule so many times to try to get an audience. Hopefully all their properties find new places to go; I also hope horse racing does find its place somehow.

  17. When has Soo Kim ever won a proxy fight? They would have to rip Sinclair away from David Smith's cold dead hands for that to happen.

  18. Nope! I don't think Standard General is going to be acquiring many more stations.

  19. I'm waiting on the day Kim acquires Sinclair and announces Deb McDermott is gonna lead the company. You just know its gonna happen.

  20. If social media feedback to this is any indication, expect NESN to revise their scorebug & make it smaller, it's at least looking at it on my big screen TV about 2 inches tall & just as hugly long wide. Everything else with this graphics element is fine. We'll see Saturday if sister RSN, Sportsnet Pittsburgh, shows this for Pirates games.

  21. I can only imagine had the Meredith-Media General deal gone through. And if so, how long would have Kim been in the picture? But I have a feeling Kim and all of the other spinoffs of Cox are circling around Sinclair or vice versa....

  22. That’s what Sinclair has done in Providence ABC after closing the newsroom and moving it to a sub channel of WJAR. An aside, when I was back in RI a month ago, the hotel finally had ABC programming on the ABC channel, rather than the repeats of whatever digipet is now on WLNE. That took a long time.

  23. Euronews style - voice behind the camera and jumping from story to story. Makes sense - fewer people are watching overall, especially in a small market like Tulsa. I'm more surprised they didn't just simulcast KOKI and call it a day

  25. Mostly based on the RSN graphics, but there are some new elements. The texturing and team logos on this version of the scorebug makes it look a lot nicer.

  27. stations are going into a holding company owned by Standard Media to be overseen by their CEO. Parkin has also reneged on buying Standard Media (KLKN, WLNE, KBSI, WDKA), and Sinclair stations (WVTV, WICS, WICD, KHQA, KTVO) that was announced in July 2025. Allegedly, his financing fell through (bridge loans, operating income for 3 months post closing per FCC rules, refi into a permanent deb), and Standard Media is said to have no interest, they want out asap. If he was 'warehousing' the stations the lenders probably balked at giving him money for a bridge or permanent refi

  28. Todd Parkin sold his equity, and notified the FCC on Tuesday stations will be transferred to what looks like a holding company. Allegedly, Sinclair is expected to buy the stations, KOKI etc, soon-ish https://thedesk.net/2026/03/ex-bally-sports-executive-cancels-plan-to-acquire-tv-stations/

  30. Despite that, websites still mention AMG on it. It could be a very slow process considering Gray has just started owning and operating WBBJ too, and this is on top of other additional Allen stations that Gray is trying to acquire and get greenlit from the FCC.

  32. This one saddens me. I love horse racing and for the longest of time, I have absolutely loved TVG, eventually TVG2 when that came around, and now FanDuel TV. Horse Racing is not much seen on national TV but for decades, TVG made it happen and has continued to do so under FanDuel TV and now FanDuel Racing. Unfortunately, it looks like its coming to an end. A 20-month phasedown has begun and by the end of 2027, FanDuel TV (and FanDuel Racing, though not mentioned here) will be taken off the air after nearly three decades of horse racing coverage, having first signed on in 1999. https://paulickreport.com/news/the-biz/fanduel-tv-to-be-phased-over-100-jobs-will-be-eliminated-by-end-of-2027

  33. I don't want to get too political here, but there is a huge case against the central Corporation for Public Broadcasting out of bias concerns. I do have a spot for public broadcasting, but under a more state/local-centric model.
