  1. If Steve is such a "horrible" host, then explain how he's still going strong after 16 years as host? This version probably would have been canceled back in 2010 had he not been hired.

  3. Sure.. anyone (regardless of age) can decide to leave the business at anytime (and for any reason) and nothing is truly guaranteed. But again, there doesn't appear to be any indication that Chuck, Lou, or any of the older folk at WMAQ are going to pack it in in the next 3 years (or so). Things can change for sure... Regardless; as a viewer, I'm happy they're still around and I am sure NBC 5 leadership is too (for however long that may be).

  4. I’m surprised Ben and Marisol haven’t been given the pink slip yet. They only host the 10am hour. Alternatively, why not add more airtime for them, giving them more shows.

  5. He could have retired when WLS decided not to renew his contract, but didn’t. He appears in good health, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he continues to work. Plus, Brant is like 76, Mary Ann is 72, etc.. so he isn’t the oldest person there.

  8. The current iteration of Sunday Today celerbrates ten years. The original Sunday Today dates back to 1987 but didn't always air consistently across the years.

  9. This is the second Hearst station in as many months to pick up Family Feud for next season; WBAL is using it to replace Kelly as well. I wonder if this is a group-wide deal

  10. Nexstar back when they were acquiring Tribune seemed like they knew what they were doing. I was completely wrong as they have lost their minds with Trump 2.0. Maybe they've always been like this but I was wrong in thinking they were a well run company. They're doing shit not even Sinclair would think of doing.

  12. every 'The Spot' station appears to keep 8 channels. WXPX 66.1 720p became 'The Spot', ION moved to 66.2 480i, QVC at 66.8

  13. Thank you two for pointing this out. Stations often increase the workload on existing crews rather than hiring more workers, when increasing news output. Many news anchors and producers already work a 2:30 to 11:35 PM shift. Staying till midnight is definitely a lot. Stations often run out of local news by the half hour mark so an 11:30 newscast would just be filled with wire service stories and national packages anyway.

  14. God I'm old. I remember working with Anthony at a Shaw's grocery store in northern CT 25 years ago. The Nexstar situation sucks but I'm sure he and Kala will land on their feet.

  15. Whew! This post is everything! I work for a TV Station - and we are all producing more news and with the same pay. Asking us to stay beyond midnight would be even more stressful.

  16. Except the network gets revenue out of this. Not exactly going to light the world on fire, but money is money. ice seen it said Comics Unleashed is the Spirit Halloween of comedy TV. A fair comparison on a few levels.

  17. It's not the 90s... on-demand news is everywhere. Giving that time back to affiliates would actually be a burden. Stations don't have the budget for syndie programming, and producing live news at that hour has terrible ROI for advertisers. News foamers also overlook the staffing reality: asking anchors, producers, reporters, directors to add on more shows for no extra pay is ridiculous (but the norm). The Byron Allen shows are trash, but forcing cash-strapped affiliates to bleed money on an unprofitable late night local newscast isn't the answer. It’s wild to me that people here claim to love local news, yet have zero regard for the actual crews being asked to do more with less while linear viewership keeps dropping.

  20. God I hope not. Family Feud has been on the air now for 50 years. That's not the thing I'm concerned about. It is Steve Harvey. Horrible host. Just my two cents. -- Matt (Yes, I'm finally back on the Local News Talk website ... mostly tho on the Discord. Hope all is well with all :))

  21. The whole situation is just so sad. What a dramatic change in talent from 1-2 years ago; not to mention all the behind the scenes cuts we aren't seeing. So now Shriely Chan will have to anchor alone 4,5,6,6:30 and 10pm.

  22. New round of layoffs... According to our Nexstar source, there were two additional on-air talent let go, this week, in addition to DiLorenzo. Kendis Gibson, anchor, the 3rd of the 4 evening anchors to get the boot Kala Rama, anchor/reporter, and DiLorenzo's wife
