Francella Perez. It looks like she was at KWHY in LA, and was probably part of the MundoFOX cuts. Either way, she looked way too nervous this morning.

Scrips Health and Scripps Media have nothing to do with one another.
  3. boy, they really wanted to reinforce the Scripps name. The thing is that here in San Diego, there are several entities that have the Scripps name: Scripps Hospital, Scripps Institution of Oceanography and then there is the community of Scripps Ranch. I'm surprised that KGTV didn't brand themselves as Scripps 10 News.

Larry was like the jack of all trades. They had him doing mostly feature stories, but would do weather and sports occasionally. Zevely did mention that he was offered Larry's old position. Is it a bad thing to be referred as Larry 2.0?
  5. Do you think the Chicago-centric shows are helping NBC 5 increase their ratings at 10?

Here in San Diego there have been a few. Robert Santos was the weekday weather guy at KGTV before being promoted to Weekend AM anchor. Greg Bledsoe at KNSD does news and weather for their weekend AM newscasts. I can't forget the late-great Loren Nancarrow who went from weather to news. He did weather at KGTV and then joined KSWB first as a fill-in wx guy before anchoring the evening newscasts.
  7. Spot on. I think a lot of people are forgetting that WLS (as most ABC O&O's) is a bloated operation. It made sense that this GM has had to come in and start pruning where possible. Is the outcome the best? No. But that is the reality of television news, this day in age. The problem with WLS is that they did not follow the KABC approach properly. If you're going to can old[er] talent, make sure that you replace them with talent that are already on the roster/familiar with. For several years now, KABC has been shedding talent, but there isn't that much of a drop off because by the time that talent leaves, the younger/newer hires have several years at the station and built up some kind of recognition.
  8. Well, like most veterans are blame-free. If they're that pissed that she got hired, they know who to bitch and complain to. Yet, most won't do it, and they know why... Someone gave her a great opportunity/money to join the station, she'd be pretty stupid not to take it. I get she needs a lot of seasoning, but there's no need to rip her every chance one gets. Like I said, blame the GM/ND for hiring her.

It's a possibility, but there have been a few cases in which the weather anchors got their AMS certification after they had been hired (sometimes several years later). I think that it just depended on the ND/GM. They certainly took advantage in doing promos which touted being the only station in town with all AMS-certified mets. This was several years ago...

Nope. I don't even think she had any formal training on presenting weather prior to this. Which is really baffling because, as I mentioned before, they hired Kimberly King (whom was a traffic reporter/ fill-in weather person at KNSD--before being laid off) several years ago and that ended horribly. King, had very limited weather experience, yet KFMB hired her. Why they would ditch a meteorologist in Kimi Evans is beyond baffling. The funny thing is that KFMB for several years had expected/demanded that their weather anchors be AMS certified, but with recent hires, they've gone back and forth in selecting candidates with or without the seal or even being a meteorologist.

Kimi wore the blue one a few weeks ago... Heather was understandingly nervous in her weather debut. I just hope this doesn't turn into the Kimberly King hiring... Where a person with little to no experience doing weather gets hired to do AM weather. Only time will tell. But King had two years to improve and she was bumbling and fumbling her words even till the last day on air.

KNSD has some new mic flags. Big improvement over the previous ones which were either broken and/or badly worn out.

    Out & About

A new promo has been airing on KFMB announcing the return of Heather Myers to the station. No word on what position she will fill, but Kimi Evans hinted that Heather was taking her spot. I am not sure if the plan is to have Heather do weather, but if that is the case then I hope it's not as disastrous as when they had Kimberly King do weather... that experiment lasted a few years and the weather segment was atrocious to watch.
  15. Gotcha. I agree to a certain point, but then you would have to look at what ratings a new newscast would garner vs. the program it is replacing. Granted that a station can keep all ad-revenue from a newscast vs. a syndie program, even if the syndie does perform better. A lot of factors to consider for sure.
  16. I'm not sure what your point is. Are you trying to argue that they should be adding newscasts? I will say that the examples of WNYW and WFLD are not the same. Two COMPLETELY different markets/stations. WFLD's brand isn't as strong as WGN/WLS/WMAQ, so why add newscasts when most people aren't even tuning in to the newscasts they already offer? You could argue that WGN adding newscasts is/was a good idea because they have such a strong presence/brand that viewers would be more inclined to tune in. Also, all stations compete in the morning. If i'm not mistaken, isn't WFLD at the bottom of the barrel ratings wise there as well?
  17. Makes no sense in adding a 5/6pm newscast where they would go head-to-head against 2,5,7,9 and be completely obliterated. Adding a weekend newscast(s) makes more sense seeing as there is less competition and they have the opportunity to try something different.
  18. Hmm, interesting. Is Tribune that hard up for cash that they need to sell off their properties? Or is it a case of cashing in on a hot real estate market??? Either way, they're going to have to find a long term solution for housing the tv station, it'll be interesting to see what they do next.
  19. Is Tribune still selling the Tribune Tower, or is that off? I know some people on Facebook were asking if WGN-TV would be moving into TT.

Damn, what a loss for KUSI. Kimi supposedly wanted to dedicate more time to her pilates studio. For what ever its worth, that's what she says she's going to be doing...

So a few updates: *Kimi mentioned on her Twitter that she is/was training the new weather lady/girl. No word yet on when she officially starts. *Heather Myers starts at KFMB on Dec. 28th, according to her former co-anchor Marc Bailey.

    Out & About

XETV News Director Don Shafer is out according to FTVLive and TVSpy. He's been at the station for a little over 2 years. Also from TVSpy, Heather Myers (ex-morning anchor at XETV) is expected to re-join CBS affiliate KFMB. Heather worked at KFMB for several years before moving down the street to XETV to become an anchor. She left the San Diego 6 just a few weeks ago. No word if both departures have anything to do with one another.

Who knows what Entravision's plans are. Every few years they make cuts left and right. KBNT had some cutbacks several years back, and they lost their weekend newscasts then. And just several months ago, they combined their 11pm newscasts from San Diego, Palm Springs and El Centro, originating mostly from San Diego (although they do local segments/inserts). I assume they're testing this out with the intent to shutter their Palm Springs and El Centro operations.

So it looks like part of the changes KFMB will make in the Morning involves replacing meteorologist Kimi Evans. She mentioned in one of her twitter posts: "So thankful to have had the opportunity to fill-in at @CBS8!" Not too mention there was a job posting for AM meteorologist that was recently taken down.

Well, they'll still have their $500 Thursday night give away during sweeps... How long before the ND gets the boot? KGTV had some nice momentum a while back giving them the #2 spot, then they messed things up and well it looks like they'll be feeding at the bottom for a while... BTW, is it me or does Ariel Wesler look like he's about to fall asleep at any moment? That with his monotone voice...Zzz
