So now that Ed Curran is back at 11am, are they potentially looking for another hire?

Don’t they already have 6 meteorologists? I took this as Ed and Robb will be splitting weather duties at 11am.

Well now we know why WABC needed to hire another meteorologist.  Sam will be busy dancing in L A (at least for a little while, I don’t see him lasting very long in the competition) rather than reporting the weather in NYC or lounging on the beach in Miami.

I doubt that’s why they hired another meteorologist.

Just because someone is on the weekends, it doesn't always mean it's a demotion. KTLA's Lynette Romero has co-anchored the KTLA 5 Weekend Morning News for quite some time now. Most will remember, Lynette was brought in from Denver to co-anchor weeknights with the legendary Hal Fishman. That pairing always seemed odd and the chemistry was weird. For many years after she was moved off of weekday nights, Lynette served as a GA reporter (which she does a great job). She found her stride again as a strong anchor on the weekends where she can show her personality. She's also a great fill-in on the weekdays when the A/B anchors are out.

Also, lets not forget Kathy Vara at KNBC. She was brought in during the mid 1990s to anchor next to Kent Shockneck on Today in LA. They were a strong team for many years. They domimated ratings at the time as well. Kathy left for KABC for a short time and has since returned to KNBC as weekend co-anchor. Again, Kathy does a fantastic job and knows the market. She's been a great go-to person when news breaks on the weekend (OC church shooting earlier this year). Should Colleen Williams retire or Carolyn Johnson choose to move on to something else, Kathy would definitely be the #1 choice to fill either seat if I were the ND.

You can spin it anyway you want, it’s a demotion, unless they asked to be placed there.

I saw a job listing for a 9AM newscast on CBS3 a while back, but I haven't seen anything else on who will anchor.

Based on what other O&Os are doing, it is likely Jim and Janelle. Now would be a good time to hand over the noon to the 4pm team.

KTRK will still be airing Jeopardy! at 11:30am. No big changes anywhere on the schedule there either. Thank God for DVRs, but it wouldn't shock me if SPT eventually decides to condition renewal of their contract with ABC O&Os on airing it in a more amenable time. That would require KTRK drop the sacred cow of its hourlong 6 p.m. news, though...and you can't put it up against Wheel of Fortune on KHOU.

They could air it at 3pm replacing news or have it swap times with Inside Edition.

What is there to be gained from yanking the affiliations off of WCIU, WPSG, KBCW, WCCB or WISH?

What is the return on investment for alienating the massive groups that own those stations right off the bat?

What benefits stations like KRON, WGN, WPHL, WJZY and WTTV that already have established brands (and in the case of WGN and WTTV, willingly gave up the CW for their own self-interests) to disrupt their programming with CW fare?

Just because Nexstar is buying majority control of what is still for all intents and purposes a three-way partnership does not mean they are going to be doing things to it or to the affiliate base "just because they can"

The CW targets a demographic that is least likely to watch OTA TV. It might have still worked in 2006 but that's 16 years and 12 models of iPhones ago.

If the Nexstar station is affiliated with a Big 4, I see the status quo remaining in place. But if Nexstar has a MNTV affiliate, I could see a swap happening.

I would think Jeff would get the promotion, should he want it to do Noon/4pm, since he’s been there a while now. I guess we’ll see what pans out.

I would think so too as he is most deserving and probably my favorite on the weather team, but I’m thinking of the optics of it. Is it a good idea to have the three men weekdays and the two women on weekends?

The most interesting nugget from this article is not that AFG is joining The View, but that Ana Navarro wanted the full-time spot and didn't get it.  It'd been widely thought that she was only interested in the part time hosting gig.  The show's staff has previously said they were looking for someone who would refute the election lies but who was not a "Never Trumper."  Griffin checks both boxes, whereas Navarro has been widely critical of both Trump and the GOP since Trump's candidacy and lacks favorability among conservative viewers.

That’s lame in my opinion. Ana has been part of the show consistently enough to test her chemistry with the others and it works. So what if she’s a Never Trump, she’s an established Republican strategist historically.

Don’t understand why they can’t make AFG and Ana full-time hosts. They’ve had more than 5 full time hosts in the past, and this would give all the hosts leeway to take on other projects on the side. They can have all six hosts on on the same day too.

As featured in this article from NewscastStudio, there were plans to transition the weather segment branding from 'Eyewitness Weather' to the "Next Weather" branding currently used at WFOR, WBZ and WCCO in the near future, but they were put on hold due to the hiring of Kathy Gerrow as news director.

"NewscastStudio sources say that KYW in Philadelphia was also preparing to switch to “Next Weather” as well, but a recent news director hire may have put a halt or pause on those plans"

Also in the article is this tidbit about the new set:

"KYW is also anchoring from a temporary location as a new set is installed in its primary studio, but that debut may be delayed as leadership changes."

Another mention in the article that I agree with is that CBS didn’t go with a unified branding, particularly Next Weather as not many stations use it.

In a huge and wild shift, KCBS is taking the east coast feed of CBS Mornings and moving most of its morning newscast to KCAL, where it’ll now run from 4am-11am, with a 6am simulcast on KCBS bridging the CBS Mornings double run

    https://variety.com/2022/tv/news/kcal-morning-news-first-kcbs-mornings-1235314324/

Well this is stupid. While it may benefit KCAL, it’ll probably hurt KCBS. Who wants to watch 2 hours of national news and features at 4am and then almost an exact repeat at 7am? Would it not make more sense to simulcast the 4-7am local newscast on 2&9 instead?

Missed opportunity to promote Sosna. He's solid at what he does.

I’ll disagree on that. While he may be knowledgeable, I don’t think he has the greatest on-air persona, and feel Krystal was better at that, and management obviously did too, hence why she was filling in weekday evenings.

Meteorologist Krystal Klei is leaving the station for her hometown of Phoenix, AZ.

Krystal Klei headed for Phoenix, via her IG

With the recent retirement of Hurricane, and the maternity leave of Brittany Shipp, this will leave only Bill Henley & Steve Sosna as the only actual F.A.W. team members for the time being.

Maybe more help from remote wether people (such as Brian James from Dallas) and Telemundo 62 temporarily?

Bill’s got to be up there in age, maybe 65? Can’t imagine he wants to work past 70. Really liked Krystal and feel she was underutilized. Steve just doesn’t do it for me, not sure why they picked him up. I imagine they’ll utilize some of the T62 weather people as they did one morning last week.

I'm a bit shocked that they didn't ask WNBC or any of the east coast O&O's for help on the Philly weather.. Violeta Yas just left WCAU/Telemundo-WWSI for WNBC/WNJU and has been there since Mid-Feb.

What exactly has been her role there? Has she even been on air?

Would they change the network name to Nexstar?

Actually thought about this before you brought it up. Could see them going with a shorter version, like Star Network, with stations branding as Star ##.

  14. On a separate note, Johnny Archer has anchored alongside Tracy the past two days, and I must say they work really well together. 10 should think about pairing them together for either 11am and 5pm, or 4pm and 6pm.
