1. I'd say it would be difficult to have a regularly scheduled noon newscast on the west coast due to sports being well underway. There probably would be numerous preemptions that I'd think would make it difficult for them to find a dedicated audience.
2. I read one of the robotic pedestal manuals where the first option to pressurize the column was nitrogen gas, while the second option was using an air compressor using clean dried air and the third option was a hand pump I guess nitrogen gas is preferred because it is clean and less likely corrode the interior of the column.
3. Thanks.
4. Stefan Holt did one of those Facebook Live streams that NBC Chicago's Facebook page shared. I just caught glimpses of it and I had no idea how narrow the studio is. There's probably twelve feet from the front of the anchor desk to some small desks on the other side which held the stage managers and prompter operators desks. He then did a quick loop behind the scenes showing some edit booths, the control room and a reporter getting some stuff from a vending machine. Behind the vending machine there was a door that said no smoking because there were nitrogen tanks inside. What would nitrogen tanks be used for in a studio environment be used for or are they likely just used for the building in an unrelated purpose? I've only heard of nitrogen being used on transmitters to pressurize the transmissions lines up to the antenna. I don't know how long these videos last but here's the link:
5. I can't remember are the side panels on their background projectors as well?
6. Thats what I was wondering. I didn't think any of their reports were bad either. It wouldn't be interesting TV if they only talked to decided voters.
7. Did any of you find the NBC set designs in Des Moines pandering, as some people on TVForum.co.uk thinks so? I didn't find it pandering but rather they blended in with their environments andlikely removed the existing kitsch with NBC kitsch. Going speak with a lot of glass and metal would contrast greatly with the overal ambiance.
8. Derek Valcourt of WJZ had his last shift Friday. There was no mention of where he's going or what he's doing next. His husband, Adam May, is a reporter for Al Jazeera America's America Tonight so in a few months they'll be free to move where ever the jobs take them next.
9. I cleared my history, cache and cookies and saw the message you were referring to. I logged back into Facebook and it was visible. If you can't view it here's the Facebook group, Overheard in The Live Truck, where it was posted. Maybe you will have to like the group to see it. If your having difficult it was a picture of a sign of a gentlemens club, Dream Girls SoDo, which read "Girls, Girls, Girls" and below that it read "Welcome to the Neighborhood K5" where they used their logo. I don't know it will work but here's the direct link to the photo.
10. It's always nice when a neighbor welcomes you into the neighborhood. I wonder what their welcoming gift for KING 5 will be. https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=10153964143234446
11. I don't know if it's been mentioned here but I saw a report on WJZ that incorporated bits from KYW and I must say I like their mid flags. The three dimensional aspect of it makes it stand out.
12. WBAL brought in Rob Roblin in for Maryland State Police's Polar Bear Plunge for today and tomorrow. Today the super plungers started where they go in once an hour for 24 hours. Tomorrow is for the general plungers.
13. Thanks, my TiVo guide has yet to be updated. As a side note I came across this video for a camera robotics company. This video is from Mark Roberts Motion Control showing their robotic setup for London Live, which is the local TV set up serving London. Anyway in this video aside from the robotics it shows that London Live's studio cameras are actually Nikon DSLR's which to me is a bit surprising. Have any of you seen a similar type of set up as the primary studio camera? I've seen similar cameras used for promo shoots but not in this type of situation.
14. Wonder what they will be preempting for the extra half hour? Sunday night / Monday AM they air Matter of Fact, Inside Edition Weekend, Monopoly Millionaire, Dateline, Meet The Press and Rizzoli and Isles. I don't think they'll pull Monopoly as I believe it's probably tied to their lottery contract.
15. Came across this mildly amusing video on Facebook. Would have filed it in a CBS 2 thread but the one there was locked.
16. Is this during news programming, Primetime or syndicated? I wonder if this will be a mandate and how will WJZ integrate it. When Colbert's show launched their countdown during news looked awkward compare to their sister stations.
17. According to this tweet from him he was.
18. According to FTVLive Jose Diaz-Balart was named as the Saturday Nightly News anchor. His social media pages listed it for a few weeks but this was the first time a news oriented website mentioned it.
19. So today's Sunday's With Harry is a repeat of a story he'd did for Nightly News on June 15, 2015: http://www.nbcnews.com/nightly-news/chalkboards-lessons-1917-uncovered-oklahoma-school-n375866
20. Here are a few more pictures of NewsForce 10 getting wrapped and the final product: Here's Ice Force 10 getting wrapped:
21. I'm not quite sure yet as I just saw a photo. From the looks of it has an external antenna for LiveU (or whatever bonded unit they use), a receive antenna for TV and an uplink dish. Other NBC stations seem to have gotten the Wranglers for weather use with built in marine radar and weather stations but this one just looks like it's for news.
22. WCAU got a new toy today. Introducing News Force 10. So far it appears WVIT, KNBC and WCAU have gotten these Jeeps. This one however does not look like it has the marine radar.
23. Sometimes in my iPad it gets annoying editing posts so apologies before hand for a double post. It looks like WHUT, the PBS TV station owned by Howard University in Washington, DC, will be participating in the spectrum auction according to this NY Times article. It doesn't specify if they will be channel sharing, shutting down the channel completely or continue to broadcast it on cable. However I could easily see them shutter than channel completely as they are a secondary PBS affiliate to both Maryland Public Television and WETA. All three public TV stations are carried widely on cable in both the Baltimore and Washington DMAs. Edit: After I posted this WSVNFan posted so it's not doubled.
24. Today was Mandy Drury's last day at CNBC's HQ in Englewood Cliffs. She's moving back to her home country, Australia, where she'll remain in the CNBC family as a correspondent based in Sydney. Unfortunately I imagine most of her reports will be taped due to the sixteen hour time difference. She could probably be on the air around 3PM ET which would be 7AM in Sydney. 25. And people wonder why WMAR doesn't do so hot in the ratings.
