  1. This has gotten so uncomfortable. May Payton never find this chat.
  2. Tirico was heavily promoted, he did it for a few days/a week, and hasn't done it since, feeling more akin to when Jay Leno or BriWi appeared, years ago. Buck, on the other hand, is arguably "in the rotation," having filled in at least a half dozen times now, for 1 or 2 days at a time. That continues GMA's history of marquee sportscasters filling in, like Jim McKay and Frank Gifford were regular fill-ins in the pre-ABC News days. Side note, but kind of related, but Linsey Davis pulled double-duty on Thanksgiving, doing both GMA and World News. Rebecca and Whit rounded out the trio, with General Hospital star and frequent GMA contributor Cameron Mathison doing Pop News and being the 4th person on the couch. Instead of making Davis blow her whole day (or Whit, in other holiday examples) I think Cameron could've totally done a one-off anchor fill-in for a lighter holiday show. Buck, Strahan, Robin, and many other once-guest hosts before prove that you don't need full news chops to do the job.
  3. But that's not a Big Bad Nexstar problem. In a world of industry-wide automation and hard cut-offs, everyone should know better, and the team in the control room failed him.
  4. Wednesday is the day 1995's The Beatles Anthology documentary series hits Disney+, and it's also the 30th anniversary of its premiere on ITV. The ABC run of it aired the prior week, so I dusted off my own VHS copy of the airings on WLS.
  5. I have this video unlisted, because it's not a big deal, but a classic practice was brought back on last night's 5pm news. Talked to a few buddies, and none of us think the 6pm anchor has teased that show at the close of the 5 in at least 25 years.
  6. They extended the late news until 11 on the stream.

  8. ABC should still lead total all-day ratings. WGN is number #1 all morning, though pre-7am is always tight with ABC in the overall households. Middays is likely still 7 on top at 11, 9 at noon. ABC7 leads all evening shows, and last I knew, WGN was 2nd at 4 and maybe 5, at which point they switch spots with NBC5.
  9. No reason given, but it was a late scratch. https://latenighter.com/news/jimmy-kimmel-live-cancels-thursday-night-episode-without-explanation/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
  10. Your link is very broken.
  11. To me, the new arrangement just feels like what they should've done in the first place, two years ago. Mark had instant chemistry with Karen, and already was great with Greg. If they had put Hughes with Sam in the morning in '23, he'd probably have developed to the point of moving to nights now, with Mark's shift change. It's weird, it all feels like 7's version of how 5 has fumbled Patrick Fazio. That said, Rob was probably miscast, while I think Patrick was just a poor hire.
  12. He's moving to that slot for the foreseeable future. They're framing it as permanent, but we'll see. They need reporters more than anchors, right now, so leaving Karen solo late is fine for the fall football season. I can't help but think Hughes' stock is a little low, as well, and shifting him to slot where he can come out of his shell a bit is a chance for him to prove his value.
  13. Three of the O&Os, KABC, WLS & KTRK, introduced a 3rd co-anchor to mornings right around the time all the 7am streaming newscasts were launched, with one of the three not coming on til 6am. WPVI also added a third wheel anchor, but I don't think she got equal time and duties. KTRK has since abandoned the concept, opting for solo anchors for their morning streams, separate from the pre-7am crews. I know in the case of Chicago, they simply go with 2 anchors in the absence of 1 (outside of a few isolated instances). Does Los Angeles do that, or would somebody sit in when any one of the 3 were off?
  14. I think Piekos wouldn't be a great fit with Sam, like a little too...shy? She'd dominate the pairing on personality. Still I would've moved Mark to evenings with Karen and gone with Christian, versus the Hughes hiring. Aside of the new vacancy, I'd love to see Cate get some of the Liz fill-in slots. Maybe not often, but unless they plan on having solo 10s or male pairings, they'll need somebody for the Friday nights when Cheryl and Judy are off, and let's just say I don't want Minor anywhere near prime slots. Maybe give Babich a little sweetheart deal to do more evening fill-ins.
  15. Standard procedure is for them to post the job listing, and they might hire from outside, but I'd imagine they'll platoon Christian Piekos, Cate Cauguiran & Jasmine Minor, in the interim. Friendly reminder that the weekend morning chairs went unfilled for 5 months after Stacey retired, and like 14 months after Ben left.
  16. With Liz's exit, Mark Rivera is absorbing all of the non-consumer investigative duties, and leaving the weekend morning anchor desk. He'll shift to a Monday-Friday reporting role, plus filling in, much like Liz did.
  17. I knew about this morning than a month ago, but this one hurts. Their fill-in bench is a little thin, with her exit. Unfortunately, KABC offered something Chicago couldn't match, and that's a vacant anchor chair.
  18. I said this on the Discord, and got about the same amount of crickets as your posting.
  19. As a concerned viewer, you can, especially if they have a "complaint" line. However, do NOT do it as a news junkie, asking about talent moves and graphics, etc. And IF someone does do that, do NOT claim association with this forum and the greater community.
  20. He officially left WJW last week. He's probably off the air to move, unless I missed something.
  21. We're all back in the fold together on the Broadcast Plaza Discord server. The past is the past, and the beef has been buried.
  22. But how will we know what market this is?
  23. The scheduling for the new season keeps getting weirder. WFLD: 10am-Noon - Chicago Now 9:30pm - Chicago Sports Tonight 10pm - Chicago Sports Report. There was no 'sports' in the title prior to the latest guide update. No idea how these two 30 minute shows will differ. WPWR: 6-9pm - Chicago Playlist. NO clue what this is going to be. Maybe a clip show of the day's top headlines and best of segments from all newscasts and Chicago Now?
  24. Not Disney and NFL Network...that we know of.
