  1. What do you and Jase think of saying our experience really comes into focus? It's a heck of a lot more commonly used then fore or forefront. Those promos are way overbuilt and stuffy. That's moldy oldy dinosaur style dry writing...
  2. Don't feed the troll...
  3. Graphics eventually....
  4. I've seen the games on The U Too in the last couple years. I guess I mean it's nice to see them picking up the rights to something. Maybe they'll make mention of the wolves in the sportscasts as part of the deal (or is that already a thing? Its hard to know since ABC has the policy of not showing sports on it's station streams for whatever odd reason.)
  5. Even if it is just the Wolves it's good to see 7 expand its sports coverage further. Even if it's only on 7.2. On a sports note while I'm thinking of it does 7 or anybody in Chicago make a big deal out of high school football on their late news (like extended highlights or something)?
  6. Shift down a little and break? To my knowledge that is the only time WXYZ has used that in the year and a half they've had the full sports package... They don't use OTS boxes in sportscasts nowadays... They did in the V1.
  7. All 5 original O&O ABC stations have dabbled in "we're number 1!!! Look at us!!!" At one point or another. The difference in how any station projects itself has a lot riding on the talent. WLS in particular is so stiff that it's as if the product is built to project that image. The copy is certainly written that way during newscasts, their promos are written that way. Their talent can be lifeless at times. It comes off cold quite often. That can be a liability at times and it's especially bad when you start taking your #1 for granted like 7 seems to be doing... The other 4 7's were always warmer and more inviting than WLS. Now being warm and inviting goes farther than it used to (some of the number one stations in other markets are almost freewheeling entirely). 7 isn't adapting at all to the changes in demographics and attitudes vs. just 10-15 years ago and it's hurting them. Sure they slapped a new coat of paint on it and they are redecorating but the product needs to be freshened as well... Otherwise this nagging that 5 is doing will become much more annoying for them.
  8. Sounds like what we were saying yesterday... Glad they simplified it. I wonder if WLS's overly formal presentation is becoming a turn off?
  9. In my very limited experience (I find WMAQ way too bland to be worth my time) they are not that similar at all... WLS's product is looking a little fatigued of late.. As for Feder and CRM I was surprised CRM called him out without naming him. That's not his style usually... Something must have irked him somehow...
  10. Jealous much? In other news 7 had some kind of technical difficulties that caused them to use their live stream at 1130am this morning. I got a push alert but no details.
  11. I hadn't seen this graphic used before, I think it's the OTS box from the V2 Sports portion of the graphics package? I like it better than the normal one at any rate. They've used it for a political story as well: One other interesting thing the last couple days was this customized for Detroit ABC promo. That VO is definitely an ABC talent and not a Scripps one (I heard her do the tonight on ABC for their TGIT programming last night at 8). I haven't seen them do anything close to this before but it's pretty cool. Maybe it's because ABC does so well here and we're usually their highest rated affiliate?
  12. It looks like CRM slammed Feder without mentioning him by name for his post about the ratings following the cubs win. There were some really good points made that Feder whiffed on completely: http://chicagoradioandmedia.com/news/7717-abc-7-wins-cubs-post-game-coverage-ratings
  13. The only thing I cringe at with Rons is when he talks about "really comes to the fore"... That's also a little intense and it really doesn't invite me in... I agree it's definitely the best one though.. I do like the idea a lot it's just some of the execution which is a usual thing I have with them... I'm used to a more free wheeling style I guess.
  14. Mark Giangreco is a strange strange guy... That "Your Team At 10" banner looks like it's straight out of the old graphics package... Decent promos to be sure though they come on a little stronger than they should...
  15. Apparently Colbert isn't doing the same for WBBM although their news product is in the toilet relatively speaking...
  16. Maybe it's similar to something that happened while I was at WDIV... Our news normally beats WXYZ by 1-2 points on the average. Sometimes they do better and get closer to us due to big ratings lead ins (being the highest rated ABC affiliate in primetime is extremely helpful.) Usually they win primetime easily and everybody tunes out and switches to us for the 11pm. It was always rather puzzling to me. When the Ferguson verdict came down we got a 7 something rating which should have been good enough to win. However opposite DWTS they got nearly a 12 rating for their newscast at 11. That DWTS lead in helped them where their lead in viewers normally switch to us. They got lots of occasional viewers sticking around. NBC 5 had Chicago Fire last night... My guess is that it's really popular in Chicago and they just rode that lead in. It doesn't sound like ABC7 picked up much from Chicago Fire viewers switching for news so maybe what NBC 5 had was either lazy viewers who didn't feel like switching or folks that don't normally watch news but stuck around plus their normal allotment. Lead ins can matter a lot depending on what it is and the market. Would I be correct in assuming 7 has a high tune-in rate at somebody else's expense?
  17. WLS won the post game Cubs coverage from game 5 with a 5.1 but lost to WBBM's NCIS airing which got a 7.4... WLS won the 25-54 with a 2.6 to 2's 1.4 however. WMAQ won the 10pm with an 8.2 / 13 SHR to WLS's 7.6 / 12 SHR... WMAQ looks much more competitive with WLS's former 10pm guy as managing editor... That works wonders I guess... http://www.adweek.com/tvspy/cubs-win-wls-post-game-coverage-wins/156890 The above was from a Feder article... Not included was a couple of other numbers that I don't know why TVspy omitted: 9pm: WGN 4.4 / 6.6 SHR WFLD 1.8 / 2.7 SHR 10pm 25-54: WMAQ 4.6 WLS 2.7 WBBM 1.2 WGN 0.8
  18. Well Scripps (or someone in Detroit) tweaked the header banner for lists and other such full screen graphics as of 10/8. Now, instead of being one line of text with a colored line below it they have a big plain white bar which has been used as a breaking news bar with red text as well: I've also been seeing these flat blue boxes in promos and now in a new election graphic they used for the first time during their 10pm newscast tonight (10/9) (the part that says election update is what I am referring to): I don't know if this is indicative of a slight refresh (the election update style box graphic I really like) or not but the look is changing a little around here although the old header bars for weather and sports are still in full use and the full screen breaking news graphics are as well so the old versions aren't totally gone...
  19. That's a little quirky but it's very clever and well put together...
  20. Phil never should have been hired to begin with but as an NBC Lifer it's hard to see him do anything but get moved elsewhere in the company... He's needed to go ever since they started the tilt leftward (remember his "lean forward" slogan that FNC ripped into MSNBC on?) What a joke...
  21. I'm afraid I lost that somewhere before I clicked the link... But I gotcha.
  22. And WGN too... Look at the Demos between 5 and 7 too... Tied. That's a tight race that I doubt 7 is relieved about at all...
  23. On a tape delay too
  24. I was thinking of this based on the position of the 7... I'm not sure if it was from before 80 or not at WLS... Ours here was from at least 77... It looks like we were thinking of 2 different things... But yeah that 84 set has the same circle 7 just about on it. The colors are very late 70's like I was thinking of though. Those 80's sets were awfully dark...
  25. No. 77-78 to maybe 84-85. That tiny set existed at all 5 O&O's identically by the mid to late 70's. I know what you said too but that doesn't make you right. Note the circle 7 is plain. God that looks sweet. It looks like they redressed the area they used fort talent opens and weather promos. Maybe it's a clue on the new direction for their new set?
