No kidding... yuck.

Does she somehow flutter her voice to imply dancing at the end?

The only relation I know of here in Detroit is the plug at the end of the newscast with pre recorded Kimmel tease that the anchors toss to and he says "thanks (anchor names)"... Doing a plug on Twitter might be a local level decision...

What is it with them?

As bad as WXYZ is doing they might as well do anything and everything including a new version of their logo... one interesting thing to note is that the last time they did a major rebrand with a news director from New York they copied WABC (Bill Carey). The guy in charge now helped make that happen as Carey's assistant and he came from... New York. At any rate it is a funny mistake. The fat circle 7 (like the bug) does not appear on any of their merchandise though save for jackets with a colored logo and even then it's not as thick.... That's what got me wondering. They even still use old non 7abc umbrellas that may be as old as the O&O era. Surprisingly I found a shot of the 7abc cap: If you go to 55 seconds and pause it when the reporter looks down briefly you can get a really good view of what the current cap looks like with the 7abc logo. If there is a difference in the circle 7's (outside of the colors and abc placement) I'm having a hell of a time seeing what it might be... They appear to be the same shape and thickness and everything looks to be the same size in the gaps... It's like somebody just moved the abc and turned it white on a black cap.. One of the frustrations about WXYZ is that they have like 13 (well maybe not quite) versions of their logo floating about that get seen from time to time on their air... sometimes I think using the same logo on stuff isn't even a thought there.

Yeah that is very classy... Kind of a sad night at the old number 9...

This guys hat in the lower left looked kind of odd... WXYZ has never used the abc7 branding before. Their last set of hats had their normal 7abc logo. I don't really know whether they are going to rebrand but they have dropped all references to 7 Action News the last few days except in the tosses to and from reports instead calling just calling it "Action News has helped..." etc. which has historically been the way they did self promotion during newscasts.

It's always something in Scripps world....

It's still about 2 sizes too small for their 5 biggest stations. They almost needed to create a package just for the top 20 market stations or let them have their own. Too cheap for that I suppose. The more I've watched it over time the more I've thought "gee this would look nice in a mid market". It is worlds away and better from the 2009 package for sure.
-
They really need new lower thirds for the V2 package but other than that it's probably in it for the long haul unfortunately... I wish the package had been complete when introduced in 2012 but they keep adding stuff they should have had in the first place to it...

For the sake of completeness there have been a couple positions filled behind the scenes of Windy City Live after those recent departures of some key people: David Plummer who has been a producer for WCL has been promoted to Line Producer and will oversee the Live production of WCL. He replaces the recently promoted Matt Knutson who became Executive Producer after the departure of Marlaine Selip. Cassandra Belek has been hired as Booker/Producer for WCL coming over from Harpo Studios. She also has experience at ABC Studios and CBS's "The Talk". She replaces the recently departed Emerald-Jane Hunter. The show is still looking for a Supervising Producer and they hope to have one by October. http://chicagoradioandmedia.com/news/7667-abc-7-filling-windy-city-live-staff-vacancies

I get it now thanks. Telling me to Google something on a forum site would normally be pretty rude but this is NSFW so gotcha...

It could be used as a temp area I suppose... But it seems a little big for a studio by Chicago standards... What is FHRITP?

If its anything like the original rollout of these graphics it'll be gradual.

In the next few months.

It could be whoever grabbed that image was as oblivious as I was. It's probably just that innocuous not that it makes it any better.

Oh well then yeah... About that OTS you got there.....

Enlighten me... What's the issue?

Even then just keep it simple stupid....

"That Sheriff and his deputies so close to those wildfires and evacuating all those scared residents"... It just doesn't sound correct. It's not even that's it's a different style of writing (I'm not sure just because the words make some sense together it becomes a style) so much as its the antithesis of like 70+ years of broadcast writing... Maybe because crime is half of what it was 20 years ago the news organizations feel the need to grab attention with overhyped and over sensationalized copy and stories that matter way less than they make them seem?
-
The thing is that bullets are nice to read but hearing someone talk in them is really weird. I don't know if NBC writes that way at all but their ratings lead suggests they have work to do. Writing normally is a start. It doesn't have to be super flashy to work and people don't speak that way. It's one more reason the show is entirely unwatchable.

Scripps DC bureau is alive and kicking thank you...

WXYZ originated the 7pm Newscast concept for Scripps after 9/11 when World News Tonight moved from 7pm to 630pm. They needed something to fill the half hour in a pinch and viola.. the 7pm news was born. What's more for being a retread newscast (repeating stories and packages from the 5pm and 6pm shows by and large with maybe a new story or two as a blurb in a VO or something) it was WXYZ's highest rated newscast in July and has been in the past from time to time as well and that's despite going up against Wheel on WDIV. So 7pm news can work pretty well.

That's a really nice graphics package. Now if they would just get some adults to write the copy for the show... Seriously the writing on WNT is some of the most bizarre I've heard in TV News.

As usual the WFLD revolving door continues to spin apace: John Kelley is leaving his anchor role on the stations Good Day Chicago morning show on December 1st. He joined 32 in 2013. George Smith is coming over from WOIO in Cleveland following new GDC EP Dan Salomone. Smith also spent some time reporting for ESPN Chicago. He starts October 12th. http://www.adweek.com/tvspy/jon-kelley-leaving-wfld-george-smith-joining/155339
