Speaking of new... WGN has debuted another new show for its streaming channel, WGN+. This time, all weather. Its called The Forecasters and airs weeknights at 7 p.m. It debuted last week but here's a sample: https://wgntv.com/video/the-forecasters-september-1/11035096/

This is a concern. I know this thread ain't about technology or social media, but I'm posting it here because WKMG got hit by this action. The post in reference is up on her IG meaning Meta must've been called out hard enough to bring it up and back. I already know social media is awful (I'm not posting as much as I used to except for X and Bluesky but even for info posts only) and its only about to get worse, thanks to AI. If this can hit a station, especially a meteorologist's pro IG, then it can hit anyone.

And unfortunately, this horrendous look will continue since KHSL/KNVN is NOT one of those duos being sold to Gray.

More retirement news and its another one in Portland. Another legendary face in Portland, Steve Dunn, is calling it a career. By the end of the year, one of the longest anchor duos in the country will be broken up once Steve Dunn anchors his last KATU newscast in mid-December so just before Christmas. https://katu.com/news/local/a-job-well-dunn-veteran-anchor-steve-dunn-to-sign-off-in-december-after-39-years-katu-news-journalism-murrow-cronkite-television-oregon-portland-icon?fbclid=IwY2xjawMkmTlleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHnkH07Udk4MzK110JFBN1jrjEPg9EkDn6LdzKo0hQT5y3ighOYm3IMfDnA7B_aem_OUixzkZICdAB2hSVO3VHDQ

I didn't realize this until now but last night was Shelley Kirk's last night at WEHT and now entered retirement after 35+ years there. There's already a studio named after retired anchor Brad Byrd. Its only fitting that his longtime partner on the anchor desk gets a newsroom named after her. I have a feeling that the Wayne Hart Weather Center will soon follow.

Nope. Still there unfortunately. There's nothing to laugh about. She's about to return under a very heavy heart and her wound is probably still deep but feels encouraged and okay enough to return.

I would ask @Weeters or anyone in admin. before doing so. I would myself but I'm not so sure.

KAKE is NOT waiting another week to air Dr. Phil's replacement... KAKE News - First at 3:00 is the replacement and the hour-long newscast began airing today. https://www.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1251255007044193&id=100064791158023 45 years in the broadcasting business is enough for Greg Floyd. He's retiring from WRGB at the end of the year, the third longtimer to do so in the region after their own Liz Bishop back in May and WTEN's Steve Caporizzo back in June. https://cbs6albany.com/news/local/longtime-cbs6-anchor-greg-floyd-announces-retirement-45-years-in-broadcast-journalism

Yeah. That is exactly why I post the emoji, followed by the name of the country, because not everyone will know that. That's Poland, Georgia (the country, not the U.S. state), the Czech Republic, and one of my favorites, Spain, in that order. Speaking of the latter... RTVE took part in a 20-second blackout of their programmes with Reporters without Borders earlier this evening to protest the recent killing of journalists inside the Gaza Strip during the Israel-Hamas war. La 1: La 2: Canal 24 Horas: Canada I wanna add Canada in here because in case it was forgotten... Corus has officially pulled the plug on six of its networks in Canada: ABC Spark, Disney Channel, Disney XD, Disney Jr., La Chaine Disney, and Nickelodeon. YouTuber Molly Mcgee has done a fantastic job of capturing them all, but its mainly the same thing. A Corus ident pops up, stays up for two minutes, and then the message This channel is no longer available shows up. ABC Spark: Disney Channel: La Chaine Disney: Disney Jr.: Disney XD: Nickelodeon:

For the first time, there's Spanish-language television in Duluth: KMYN-LD Channel 32.1 Telemundo Duluth.

Ugh. Another great one gone too soon. Former WYMT Chief Forecaster Brandon Robinson has passed away after battling with brain cancer for 9 years. He was 42. Usually, WYMT is not on the weekend anymore due to Gray's cuts from a year ago. However, tonight at 6:00pm, it will be an exception as a tribute to the forecaster who spent and devoted 17 years to the station and to Eastern and Central Kentucky. https://www.wymt.com/2025/08/31/long-time-wymt-forecaster-dies/

Its rare for someone to stay at a small market station for so long. Yet, Briggs LeSavage stayed for nine years at KBJR-TV, and has pretty much done every single job you can think of in the newsroom, on air, and behind the scenes. Not to mention, she's a Duluth native, so it was easy for her to stay. Morning anchor (at KBJR-2), content director, assistant news director, news director, 5:00 p.m. anchor, host of lifestyle program Northern Life, etc. She's done it all, and Friday was her last day. https://www.northernnewsnow.com/video/2025/08/29/longtime-northern-news-now-briggs-lesavage-signs-off-last-time/

France Better late than never. If you can understand French, then you can enjoy Jacques' last moments on TF1 after nearly 27 years doing 13H as a fill-in. This is from his last edition on May 9th.

Finally... a 2005 KDFW-era newscast, all complete with the 1-year usage of the updated (at the time) Outlaw News music.

I really do hope there's light at the end of the tunnel for KIMT. Allen has turned that station and its others into total shitholes. The sooner they are gone, the better. They need to sell TWC too.

Actually, I don't care for either network, so let the popcorn fireworks fly! I'm curious to see how long this tit-for-tat battle lasts, knowing viewership for both networks is still pretty crap.

Spain Here you are... the new season of Telediario on RTVE. By season, I mean the changing of the presenters. It sometimes happens in Spain, but not always. But this one for RTVE is highly anticipated. First off, Marc Sala moves off from La Hora to deliver the weekend editions of TD. Veteran television and radio journalist Lourdes Maldonado (Antena 3, TeleMadrid, RNE) is coming back to television to join Marc on the weekend side. But most importantly, and why its so highly anticipated, the return of legendary journalist and one of the most trusted and respected voices in the country, Pepa Bueno, returns to RTVE to anchor the 21:00 edition after a 13-year hiatus. On debut night, she'll be interviewing the Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, which will be aired as a half-hour special at 21:30, immediately following TD2, on all major RTVE networks that carry its news content (Flagship La 1, Secondary La 2, news channel 24h, national radio broadcaster RNE, and the streaming service RTVE Play). All of this begins on Monday, September 1st, so it is quickly approaching.

I just saw something on KTVD's schedule. First off, I didn't know that KUSA added another hour of news at 9am on KTVD. Then, I further looked at the schedule, and it looks like KUSA is about to copy KDVR. Starting Monday, Sept. 8th, KUSA will add an extra two hours of weekday news on KTVD from 10am-12pm. In other words, if you watch KUSA's news solely on KTVD, then you'll be able to watch the whole block from 4:30am-12 Noon, just like how KDVR does it.

Ireland David McCullagh is the new presenter of RTE Radio 1's Today programme, as Claire Byrne is leaving the broadcaster later this year for Newstalk in early 2026. https://www.rte.ie/news/ireland/2025/0829/1530813-rte-mccullagh-byrne/

A legendary, well-known face in Arizona journalism has died. I consider him one of KTVK 3TV's giants since he was one of Arizona's first Hispanic anchors. Frank Camacho was 75 and passed away this morning after a battle with cancer.

America's first all-Black radio station... iHeart-owned Urban oldies and classic soul station 1070 WDIA Memphis. They're featured on the CBS Evening News as well as its longtime host of 42 years, Bev Johnson. And yes, its CBS Sports' James Brown with this Eye on America feature:
