  1. Full 3pm newscast Most of the O&Os were struggling, even with the channel numbers. What do they have to lose with this?
  2. Assume the rest will wait for the new year.
  3. It finally happened.
  4. Investigative correspondent Drew Griffin has passed away from cancer. He was 60.
  5. Orlando and San Diego also have three hour-long 10pm newscasts. As for the latter, KNSD produced KSWB’s 10pm before the Fox era began.
  6. Just think, in LA, there would be four 10pm newscasts if NBC does indeed go through with this in the future. KTLA, KCAL, KTTV, and KNBC.
  7. CBS News Detroit launches in January with afternoon and late newscasts. Their morning show will launch later in the first half of 2023.
  8. Apparently there’s a new Michaela Pereira-fronted talk show from PPI in the works.
  9. Soccer journalist Grant Wahl has died while covering today’s Argentina-Netherlands quarterfinal match.
  10. With the film and TV industry growing in Atlanta and the state of Georgia overall, I don’t understand why CNN would want to minimize their presence in Atlanta.
  11. The memo in the FTVLive Deanno story linked here said they’re conducting rehearsals on the new set for “the next several weeks”, so a January (or February) launch is more likely.
  12. Longtime KXAS reporter Scott Gordon and GM Tim Ehlmann took NBCU's contract buyouts.
  13. Sheba Turk is leaving WWL/WUPL for KCBS/KCAL next month.
  14. From a member on the Discord: they’re shooting promos for the morning show now.
  15. Well, despite schedules saying otherwise, the KCAL morning show ended up not launching today. It’s the regular 4:30-7am CBS 2 News This Morning.
  16. Does anyone know if the KCAL morning newscast is premiering tomorrow? The TitanTV schedule on cbsla.com and TVPassport are showing two different things tomorrow morning.
  17. Well, this quote from a July writeup from RBR is giving us a little more clarity on the KCAL brand being used for KCBS' newscasts. And, in a major move, local newscasts will no longer originate from KCBS-2. Instead, that station will simulcast KCAL-9 newscasts as part of a bigger plan to make KCAL, once the home of the legendary Jerry Dunphy and Pat Harvey, a player in the L.A. news race for the first time in more than two decades.
  18. I’m betting it should. The CBS Innovation Lab’s guidelines is for duopoly stations with a news-producing CBS O&O to have the “CBS News (City) NOW” name, with the standalone CW affiliates having the “(City) NOW” name.
  19. CBS is going the way of CTV when it comes to O&O branding. Someone was going to try this sooner or later. It is looking very likely at this point that KCBS/KCAL is going to be the first to debut the new graphics and rebrand when they launch the new morning show on Monday.
  20. That's been there for months on the newscast bug.
  21. When you think about it, KCAL is the stronger brand between both stations. It kinda makes sense, in a way.
  22. And the last of the holdouts, KCBS/KCAL, getting ready to debut Next Weather.
