  1. If true that leaves two big holes to fill - 2 pm and 7 pm. Previously they said it was replacing Steve Harvey. If the rumors of a 7 pm newscast are true would they do local at 7 or be like WRC and do a full hour of local at 6 and Nightly at 7. They were doing this in the 80s.
  2. Anyone know what the deal is with Drew Wilder? I’m visiting DC and he is a reporter on WRC as their Northern VA reporter. Is he doing double duty in DC and N.Y.?
  3. Not sure I agree. News12 NJ still seems to be very NJ centric, granted they are live maybe 4 hours a day and just repeat in between. Major national stories should be covered, nothing wrong with that, and the issue of mass shootings and domestic terrorism fits that bill. Considering the lack of NJ focused stories on the network stations, the elimination of news on Ch. 9 in violation of the licensing agreement years ago and soon the virtual disappearance of the Gannett papers being bought by GateHouse, there is definitely a need for News 12 NJ.
  4. Okay. He is a meteorologist. First post did not identify that. I assume he will replace Erica on weekend evenings and nights. Clearly this was in motion before she was let go and explains why Maria LaRosa got the TINY job.
  5. How? They are now down 1 meteorologist. With Rafael Miranda doing TINY Weekends, and Janice and Dave Price doing weeknights, there is no one who is permanent on weekend nights. That makes no sense. Clearly they have an opening. The only move they could make is to move Dave Price to weekends. He would see that as a demotion, as would viewers so that is very doubtful.
  6. Raphael Miranda is doing the weather tonight on News4NY. That means he is doing triple duty.
  7. Her facebook page still has a copy of the forecast from WNBC from this morning. I guess we may know more come the weekend if she is not on and they don't say someone is sitting in for her.
  8. From what I saw this morning, it will take a little time for her to develop the relationship with Darlene & Michael that the other meteorologists have. You can tell she very much is trying. I'm sure NBC had its reasons for her taking that slot.
  9. Oh another one of those lifestyle programs with paid product placements and stories... Doesn't RI already have one on WPRI 12 called the Rhode Show? Can the market sustain both?
  10. Remember that WCBS 880 is no longer part of the same company as WCBS TV. CBS sold the radio division to Entercom about 2 years ago. Sharing on air personalities is not longer a given and would require contracts. Entercom is licensing the call letters and contracted with CBS News to provide news updates (with a name change to differentiate). It used to be that most TV and radio stations used one or two traffic suppliers like the former Shadow Traffic and then Total Traffic. The supplier used to provide the talent so there were backups. Clearly with CBS, that model has changed and its no longer a priority.
  11. Source? considering she has rarely been on air, not connected to the anchor team and the viewers this is surprising. If it was for Sat or Sunday that would make more sense. Either Raphael Miranda or Erica Grow should have been selected. I wouldn’t blame them if they bolt.
  12. It was two years ago already. That is why WCBS 880 and 1010 WINS say a radio.com station.
  13. In the past, WNBC has also used the CNBC studio in Englewood Cliffs when there were issues in midtown impacting 30 Rock. It was a weekend, so that was not an option. It may result in WNBC wishing to upgrade a backup studio at WNJU (which ironically are in the old CNBC/America's Talking/MSNBC studios in Fort Lee). Having that facility in NJ would give them an advantage over the other stations. In reality, all the networks/stations impacted will probably be reassessing their contingency plans going forward. Would CNBC have to keep an area on weekends active in case MSNBC or WNBC has to relocate? What would CBS and ABC do? And Fox has abandoned the Secaucus studio which is nt longer an option. I noticed that WCBS was using a studio with really bad acoustics. You could hear the anchor's sighs and it was echoing. All had lighting issues. However, in the end, they all got the news and information out.
  14. I agree. Right now schedules are a mix due to vacation time. Erica was on the 4, 5 and 6 tonight. (and probably the 11). I bet it will take a couple of months to sort out, and the new person that is rarely on camera gets the weekend morning spot (Maria something or other).
  15. In reality, NBC had no clue how to use Kerry Barrett. The breaking news desk thing didn't last very long and she ended up just being a substitute anchor across all newscasts. It was like she was the fifth wheel. I don't think this is unique to WNBC from when I lived in St. Louis and KSDK tried a similar thing. When there is. breaking news, and it requires a specialized "expert" it usually intelligence or security related and Jonathan Dienst is used. But it is topic specific. Otherwise regular anchors will break in. But that is not part of the regular scheduled broadcasts usually but has been on occasion. Adam Kuperstein did that Thursday with the LA earthquake from the newsroom, which is not a typical set they use these days.
  16. I think they say exclusively on cable as they also have been available on Comcast, Charter and RCN for many years. FiOS, DirecTV and Dish do not carry News12NJ.
  17. Altice has systems down the shore as well. Several years ago, Comcast made a deal with then Cablevision to carry News12NJ on their northern systems in Essex and Middlesex counties. In return, CN6 was available on Optimum until Comcast shuttered the channel. Charter (formerly TWC) systems in NJ also carry News12NJ. Altice also now carries Spectrum News NY1 (which is basically useless with its narrow focus on NYC).
  18. I would not read too much into it. Rafael is doing 4, 5, 6 and 11 while Dave and Janice are off on vacation. It will take some time to sort out, my bet is on Rafael getting it. He does have seniority.. I would look to the new meteorologist who has not been on the air much to take TINY Weekend duty.
  19. David was on in the afternoon.
  20. Reporters on the scene (1.5 blocks from 30 Rock) included Sarah Wallace, Jamie Roth, Ray Villeda. David Ushery and Jumy Olabanji anchored the coverage in addition to hosting the 4 pm broadcast.
  21. You are actually wrong on several counts. New Yorkers are very sensitive to "flying machines" hitting buildings today, but more importantly, the area is a no fly zone - both because of what happened 9/11 and its close proximity to trump's tower and home. The helicopters are usually restricted to the rivers and this one was to be headed south to it's home base in Linden NJ, not north.
  22. WABC also is broadcasting live, why not use their own sister station?????? Note the only NYC station that is not covering this live is WNYW FOX5. CBS2, NBC4, ABC7 and PIX11 are all live. I guess Fox values Dish Nation higher than breaking news.
  23. NBC has often gone outside to fill the anchor ranks on weekends, and I expect them to do it again, even if it is a promotion of an anchor from another NBC O&O. Although there are often wishes for local promotions, it has often been said that many are happy with their current situations rather than "moving up." Considering family and community obligations Jen Maxfield has, she may be just fine with her current situation as being a reporter and fill in anchor. Time will tell. It seems NBC is never quick to fill the weekend anchor positions.
  24. I read earlier that the 9 pm news on WLNY has rebranded using the CBSN New York name, effective Monday the 8th.
  25. The operation of Fox O&O's are not impacted by the Disney sale. They will continue to be controlled by "New Fox" and the Murdoch family. I'm sure it was a legacy Fox decision on when to change the websites, along with a long overdue Fox5 NY studio. All Fox decisions which Disney has no role in.
