  1. Duuuuude I don't see anything wrong with any of those suggestions. Robin Meade was a light news show host. The third hour is all positivity and the 4th hour is all fluff, I don't think it's a stretch for Meade to host either. You skipped over the posts suggesting Chelsea Clinton, Barbara Bush and Malia Obama but Robin Meade, an actual news anchor, is a stretch??? Furthermore, KLG and Hoda were half drunk on the fourth hour for years, so anything goes... As for Norah and Jeff, both were great morning show hosts and are about to leave their respective positions, so why not? Sure, Shepard and Anderson are wild card names but NBC recruited Meredith Vieira from The View, so they've gone big and random before.
  2. Not sure where to put this but KPIX has adopted the CBS News 24/7 virtual map look. I really like it, wish it were used in NYC aswell. I also like the graphic at the beginning of the package that credits the photo journalist.
  3. I had a feeling Laura would be in the mix as her profile has risen lately. The article suggests Savannah could leave too! In that case, Craig and Laura would be solid as co anchors. I'm not sure they have big name recognition outside of regular NBC viewers but that's okay because they can built it. If NBC wants a big outside hire however, I again recommend Anderson Cooper, Norah O'Donnell, Jeff Glor, Shepard Smith?... or even Robin Meade (she would definitely fit on the 3rd/4th hrs). In house: Peter Alexander, Tom Llamas Random...Laura and Craig really resemble Bryant Gumbel and Soledad O'Brien, back to the chat lol.
  4. Kristine and Maurice have always been good, but I wondered why their profiles suddenly rose so much in the last few years. As someone pointed out earlier --- cost cutting measures. CBS is double dipping by having them function as local and national talent. Hopefully their salaries were raised. If CBS wants primarily solo anchored newscasts I advocate for AM Mary/Chris 12pm Cindy 5pm Cindy 6pm Kristine 11pm Kristine/Maurice (to preserve the anchor pairing). It also works because Kristine would be a stable presence if Maurice cannot anchor due to national events. *If they want a co-anchor at 5 and 6 they can go with Dick Brennan (my first choice) or Allen Devlin.
  5. Please go to CBS Brian! Their evening news could use you.
  6. Agreed
  7. Hopefully they don't adopt the 11Alive lower thirds. Those are atrocious and distracting. The current KUSA L3s are nice and simple
  8. The problem is Scripps News was a droplet in a swimming pool. So many other outlets already provide 24/7 national news not to mention the nationalization of local newscasts. How much of the same can exist before the bubble bursts?
  9. Not really. What they were doing by 2012 wasn't that old.Intro, anchors tease whats coming up, news anchor does top headlines, hosts introduce big cover stories of the day then talk about it with someone related. More hard news, smarter interviews. They dont have to do 90 stories in the 7 am half hour. I'm glad they scrapped the orange room. I would love to see the either the 3rd or 4th hours scrapped (ideally both). That's unlikely however because of limited syndication options. In house talent ideas: Craig Melvin, Tom Llamas, Peter Alexander Outside hire ideas: Anderson Cooper, Jeff Glor or Norah O'Donnell. Dan Harris or Bill Weir (both were great on GMA). Poach Nate Burleson from CBS maybe. Too bad Ryan Seacrest took that wheel job. It seemed like NBC was grooming him for a Today position years ago.
  10. The News anchor on Today does quick a read through of national headlines at the top of the 7 and 8 am hours. Basically what Ann Curry did. The co-anchor hosts the program, conducts most interviews and introduces correspondent packages. The news anchor role has diminished because the anchors now introduce most stories. Previously, anchors introduced stories that would lead to a larger topic analysis segment.
  11. Wow so she's also leaving the 4th hour! Unexpected. I'm sure this means Craig Melvin will become the co-host. As others have said Sheinelle as news reader. Long shot but I would like to see Today completely revamped. Get back to some of the pre 2014 formatting. The 3rd and 4th hours are bleh but I wonder who will take over the 4th hour. I have never felt Savannah as co-anchor but her profile has risen, as she earned her stripes on Breaking News/political coverage so she won't be moved.
  12. Your post prompted me to check this out. It's is quite the situation with a category 4 hurricane headed towards the area, and *only one station offers live newscasts --- WCTV. Well, big 'win' for them! Is WTXL all Scripps casts? It'll be interesting to see how a prerecorded newscast works with rapidly changing storm information. And of course the Sinclair station has no news department.
  13. Totally agree. I can only wonder who is next.
  14. Lets not over do it with news out put. KTLA is already doing that unfortunately. Alternative programming options are needed on broadcast.
  15. Hearst stations, based on reporter feedback and posts in this thread, seem to be well run, and look good aesthetically. Their format can be a little stiff however.
  16. I think the news business is going to have to move away from experience obsession and move to ability. Sometimes those are mutually exclusive. There was a columnist who said news stations should hire people from their community who have the ability, and develop them because local talent is more likely to stay at the station/market rather than an experienced transplant hire.
  17. EW Scripps is a mess. If they do give it to Hearst please. I would love to see ABC (now Disney) take it again, but I don't think they're in the business of buying tv stations anymore. I hate pointless live shots, especially ones far away, and especially when sports pre empts programming. I don't think the audience cares about a static live shot in front of a dark building. Live shots should be reserved for an active scene, breaking news/rapidly changing info, or when there's not enough time to assemble a package. Otherwise live for live sake adds nothing to a broadcast. At my old duopoly station, there was a policy that the secondary station could pretape newscasts delayed by sports. The primary station however had to go on live, even though they would just be copy and pasting the same broadcast on to both stations. I don't think ratings will drop if the broadcast is not live.
  18. The remixed theme didn't sound that bad, it was just slightly more serious. It could have been preserved for special report cut ins or braking news. As the old saying goes, if it ain't broke don't fix it. Some themes are too iconic to switch, Action News is one of them and (Off topic) the Today theme is another. Still hoping NBC brings that back.
  19. Exactly. Why not just say CW 33 Miami? Significantly smoother. CBS is also terrible at wordy brandings. And the call letters and license city don't need to be at the bottom of the logo, it's an eyeful.
  20. Allen is experienced but he also seemed a scripted with exaggerated facial expressions on WANF. This is a good jump for him though, from on CBS station to a much stronger one. Allen's video was well edited! Other videos where he announced job changes were well done aswell.
  21. What confuses me is that the Miami metro is over 6 million people and Tampa is just over 3 million. I guess that goes back to the number of persons per household. What did surprise me was just how massive that 3 county coverage area is. The top of Broward County (Deerfield Beach) to the bottom of Monroe (Key West) is a 4.5-hour drive, 210 miles. Not to mention Miami stations will go into Palm Beach County if news permits, such as the Trump assassination attempt.
  22. Lower third white box is too plain, otherwise pretty good
  23. Same! The issue is allegedly displacing another anchor to get your desired shift.
  24. "The Gates" rolled off the tongue more. Excited to see Tamara Tunie! She is well experienced with daytime as she was Jessica on As The World Turns. During part of that run she pulled double duty as the medical examiner on Law & Order SVU. Interesting producer names: Robert Guza. While he is great at disaster and adventure plotting he helped purge General Hospital of several veteran cast members and helped make it a show about the mob. Victoria Rowell, ex-Drcuilla Y&R, would be a great addition but likely not due to her falling out with CBS.
  25. Pardon my lack of understanding but in general the numbers have always confused me. In the NYC metro which has 19.5 million people, there are only an estimated 7 million households (36% of the local population) with a television?
