  1. MSNBC 1996. Amazing, futuristic and internet oriented. Nothing compares to it on tv today.

WABC "Channel 7 Eyewitness News" late 80s-late 90s. Plain and simple but I like the frame consuming blue background, reminds me of interview sets from the 70s.

  2. The 1990s and 2000s were a very creative era in graphics packaging. Stations has more of a degree of appearence individuality and flatness wasn't as widespread.

Post your favorite news graphics packages from the 90s or 2000s! Image or Video:

WABC ABC 7 Eyewitness News at 11:00 (February 7, 2000)

    WTTG Fox 5 News at 10 (January 30, 2001)

There's also a January 25, 1981 WKRC 11pm newscast, but it can't be embedded due to copyright. So here is the link:

Cool! up until recently it was hard to find any WABC news clips from about 98-04!

  4. Today Show (1990-94): faux wood, ice cubed windows, landscape wallpaper window pane walls, ambersome vintage world maps, designated news desk area, and a grand piano. The mid 80s set was my favorite set but this was beautiful!

  5. My guess is, 6-7am is a critical hour on the big 3 networks because it's their audiences' last chance to get local news before the switch to a national morning show. Stations like Fox &  The CW might want their A-Team anchors in that slot to be more competitive.

In that case, a decent split would be B team 4-6 am, A-team 6-10 am and have your traffic, weather, entertainment anchors handle the fluff from 10-11am.

And I really am not loving that CNN+ is becoming 'where the real news is'; they're giving Sanjay Gupta a show there, though he used to have a show on CNN on the weekends, another thing I hate because CNN used to have a varied non-news schedule on weekend of lots of niche shows they got rid of for docs and murder repeats. Why do they need to launch a streaming channel when they have plenty of surplus time on the main network and HLN?!

Also everyone's said it; their coverage of Zucker's firing makes it seem like they lost William Randolph Hearst in a mysterious airplane crash, in his prime. 🙄 They didn't help their 'pop news' rep at all this weekend.

Exactly. why not make your actual TV channel better?

Their reaction to Zucker's firing is giving me Fox News hosts crying about Roger Ailes's passing vibes. Is CNN talent not cognizant of how bad their network actually is?

  7. WCBS "Channel 2 News" 1993: Appears to be a 2 set arrangement like WNBC.

Top set: features the common multi monitor background of that time period. Great detailing with the Rather era CBS Evening News like world map.

A black accent instead of blue on a different newscast.

Bottom set has window pane like elements with crinkle cut fry shaped beams featuring a monitor on each "fold".

  9. WSVN Newsplex mid 1990s! Very CNN. It matched with their hard/tabloid news station format they were aiming for.

WSVN 7 News on Twitter: "@cstevenson7 Our plex has definitely changed! https://t.co/MrQv1PAex1" / Twitter

Today (NBC) 1990. Gorgeous Manhattan apartment style set that was used from the mid 80s until Sep 1990. Love the window level view of the skyline, and the sunrise toned rainbow behind the anchors.

The living room area was very detailed with various trinkets and pieces that make it look realistic as if it were going to be used for a soap or sitcom.

Ice storm Friday morning.  It’s not unusual for stations to start morning newscasts earlier when there is potential for severe weather. It’s not the first time. It’s not the last.  I would not jump to any other conclusions.

Jumped the gun. From the quote below I inferred that the earlier time slot would coincide with the possible new name.

The question remains though. As many stations across the country are adopting earlier start times it leads me to wonder where the AM. personal stand on this. But that's probably best for the speculation thread.

Was watching CBS Mornings this morning, and on the ticker they stated 'CBS 2 Mornings' will be airing at 4AM on Friday.' - they must be slowly making the change to a new name.

  11. Yet another station at 4am. I wonder how the talent feels about having to get up even earlier?

Moreover if 4am becomes the industry standard, will those national morning newscasts like CBS Morning News or Early Today will still be around in the years to come?

  12. Loving the CBS 2 logo in the middle of the CBS eye.

Given the chance that CBS Mornings could always share the same fate as past CBS morning programs, they should probably just keep the name of the local morning show unchanged.

Did you see an announcement, or is that based on who was there today? Because that's been different almost every day. Kayla did 6-7 on Monday and three days last week. And I have typically not seen Bianca doing 9-10 except maybe one segment she reported.

The only part I agree with is 4:30-6 is Dan solo.

I wonder what the reasoning be behind adding a second anchor soely for 6 AM hour?

I think Regan has a bubbly personality and would fair better in the 7-10am. Bianca has a calm demeanour and would anchor well with Dan in the more strictly news Good Day Wake Up.

  14. The KDKA black and gold is the best looking that I've seen so far amongst the CBS O&Os. It's a departure from the usual blue or white box look on most TV news casts. That being said it would look nice if each individual CBS affiliate could have their own tweaks to the standard graphics package for individuality.

As for the CBS News streaming graphics, it's the typical white box flatness, but it works nonetheless. really digging the textured world map element to the CBS News Mornings orange package.

Overall the rebrand works though I thought they'd call it something like "CBS News+"  to distinguish the national streaming feed from the TV network.

  15. WNYW has again bumped out 'The Real' in favor of another panel discussion show "The Good Dish". I wonder why they keep bringing back and getting rid of 'The Real'.

The 2 PM slot (in which they run TMZ and Extra previous day repeats) is wide open to accommodate any experimental shows, leaving 1:00 open for "The Real"....unless it's doing unfavorably in the ratings?
