It does better than WXIA in most timeslots.
I'm surprised because 11 Alive is a better flowing newscast. 2 and 5 are the best in the market IMO.

Let’s hope that doesn’t happen.
But the more intresting part of that article is:
“One possible deal recently floated in media circles involves a merger between NBCUniversal parent Comcast and Paramount. The two companies reportedly had been in talks in 2021.If that merger happens sooner or later, (the newly acquired company under the ownership of) Comcast would likely be forced to get rid of the CBS network due to antitrust violations. Warner Bros Discovery, in turn, might then swoop in and combine CNN with CBS News, seeking to reap efficiencies between the two networks under its umbrella, some insiders have speculated.”
That would honestly make a lot of sense and be a huge benefit for CBS which just can’t seems to stand up straight and address the problems at CNN.IMO from a viewer and from an employee perspective, we don't need further narrowing of the media landscape.
On the other hand, maybe the far superior journalistic quality of CBS News might rub off on CNN.

Y'all don't have to worry about a switch in Atlanta. WANF will stay as a CBS affiliate.
Gray has renewed its CBS deal in all of its 54 markets.
Good. CBS doesn't need to build a new local news department from scratch. It's genetic format wouldn't hold up againt WSB, AGA, or XIA, (not that WANF does well).

The ">" in the L3 before the headline looks awkward. Nothing was needed there except text, or they could have used " | ".

Good point, but the rest of the graphics would not fit a vertical phone orientation, so I think it's more a result of the centered alignment and not a vertical strategy.
It is a fair point but personally speaking, if I want to see something larger, I just turn my phone horizontally.
Is that from youtube? From what I've seen YouTube doesn't let you do full screen for horizontally recorded videos.
Off topic...can the public please record eyewitness video horizonatally (or even personal videos). You can capture more action in frame that way.

The Special Report L3 update was not necessary. It was perfectly fine before. If anything, they should be trying to look less like MSNBC for bias purposes.

This whole update reeks of change for change sake, rather than actually needed a refreshed look.

The only thing I dislike is still how the top stories are all "breaking news." A fad ABC started that I won't forgive. If everything is breaking news, nothing is.
I'm glad someone else noticed that ABC is the origin of this madness.
The lower thirds are a downgrade from what they had previously, but it's better than the typical flat white rectangle.
The new graphics look OK. I could definitely see these on MSNBC. The background behind the coming up graphics would look really good on the local O&Os.
Nothing special, but still better than CBS and ABC. NBC can typically be trusted to have the best graphics of the big three. Let's just hope they can make it out of studio 1A eventually.

Take notes WABC! It's amazing how all of the New York stations are flagships yet none of them are the best looking presentation wise in any of their station groups.
* not counting graphics on 2, 4, & 5 who have the exact same graphics as their sister stations*.
Not feeling the new ABC bug. It's the same things CBS did: put a streaming sized bug on TV.

More good stuff: Send off video for WABC assistant news director in the nineties. Very WGN Morning News satirical feel to it, lol. NJ Burkett's Tim Milton impression was spot on (1993)

Jim would be a great fit at WABC. I would say a station with a weaker talent lineup like Fox 5 could use a veteran talent like Jim, but I think he would be a better fit at a big three station.

They're getting a set refresh, and it's being discussed in two other threads on here, and it has nothing to do with the O&O graphics.
CBS 2 has the best set in the market (some would say PIX 11). It will be interesting to see what tweaks they make.

I was just thinking to myself how long its been since Nightly's L3's were updated. The current package is fine. I really like that the L3s aren't flat white boxes and they have gloss and shine to them. Likewise, they co-inside with the Special Report graphics.

Personally I really miss good investigations of consumer issues like pricing and grocery store issues, but Food Lion and Pink Slime pretty much scared ABC and NBC into full time crime on their newsmagazines, and you don't see CBS even cover many of those stories any longer.
Is that what it was?! I was wondering why Dateline, 20/20 and 48 Hours became all true crime and scandals.

When’s the last time CNN has even mentioned climate change? If anything that’s a story they need to cover more of.
Otherwise I agree with your suggestions; they’re still politics-heavy under Licht, and that should change. I’d add that we really don’t need the endless parade of political pundits during dayside programming.
However, can we honestly say that people would watch the network even if they followed through with all of that? People looking for impartial news coverage and thorough explainers aren’t going to cable news; if they were, BBC News and France 24 would be in demand. I get the impression that the average cable news viewer is just looking to be pandered to. Perhaps it didn’t have to be that way, but you can blame the cable networks, including CNN, for making it that way.
I say that because most times you turn on the news you hear the same subjects: immigration, healthcare, climate change, and politics. While those issues are important, there's certainly more to fill up a newscast. Years ago I saw a story about kidnapped children in Africa (not the bring back our girls story) on PBS' BBC World News America. In contrast, all the other nightly newscasts were glued to Trump.
Unfortunately it would take an industry wide moving away from politics in order to force audiences into different news consumption habits.
If CNN continues with panel discussions have it be thoughtful conversation and not argumentative scream television. (...And I don't mean put together an MSNBC panel where like minded people parrott each other)
The CNN documentaries are pretty good. I suppose I'm dreaming of pre late 2000s CNN when you got actual serious news coverage.

I obviously have no experience running a cable network, but as a viewer what I think Licht needed to do was:
-bring back the CNN Newsroom look for dayside
-stop mega focusing on one subject
-keep Trump coverage brief and non-partisan
-diversify network coverage outside of politics, climate change, and the usual stuff
-Allow some CNN International material to air domestically (during the daytime and night)
-get rid of problematic commentators and keep opinionated content (if any) in primetime to compete with MSNBC and FOX.
-have that primetime opinionated block me a mix of conservative, liberal and independent/libertarian voices
- poach *good* ex-jornalists (I'm talking like Ann Curry or Elizabeth Veargas *both too good for CNN* not Chris Cuomo)

Wow these are awful. their idea of re-branding is let's just add rounded corners to the existing graphics and thin the typeface. Based on the CNN plu graphics CNN can do better.

The 2010s documentary is as good as I expected it to be. The Trump episode felt a bit rushed. Surprised Trump didn't get two hours especially if peak tv did.

Granted the old graphics are better than what's on screen now but they should focus on getting an entirely new look. I'll give it to current CNN though, if something isn't working such as CNN Plus or their new graphics package, they'll get rid of it quickly. Keep the flip ticker though.
