That cue in the beginning is News Series 2000. Gari reorchestrated that cue and you can tell by the quality sounded way better than the old Tar Sequence score.

Ah, I listened to it again. I should've recognized the quality difference. It threw me since they must've dropped that cut fairly quickly.

The Cheryl and Larry promo went live yesterday.

That's always rough, but it's nice that they allowed her to say goodbye on-air. That puts her in way too small of a group. Best of luck to her.

I think it indicates you were well liked and nobody is happy about it...

Not necessarily the hosts, but the set has aged terribly and should be blown up. It's not always for me, but I like and respect what they're trying to do with the show, but even I am really distracted by how the set pieces are cheapening the whole vibe of show. At least a coat of paint, or something. They redid the kitchen a couple of years ago, and looks so much more modern and upscale, but it only accentuates the tattered carpet, and the shiny golds that are turning to a drab peach color.

As for Ji, if she put in for the Chicago's Best vacancy, she'd have a shot, for sure.

WLS have appointed KTRK's CSD David Lee, as the new CSD.

From Feder:

David Lee has been named vice president of audience development and creative services at ABC-owned WLS-Channel 7. He most recently held the same position at KTRK, the ABC station in Houston. He succeeds Curtis Miles, who left in July to become general manager of WAOW, the ABC affiliate in Wausau, Wisconsin. Lee, a native of Great Falls, Montana, and graduate of Montana State University, previously worked in Fresno, California, and Spokane, Washington. “David’s creative instincts combined with his expertise mining the digital space make him the ideal person to lead our station’s talented creative services department,” John Idler, president and general manager of ABC 7, said in a statement.

Ouch. I’m sure 32 or 26 will pick her up. Hope she finds new work soon.

I think 32 is not an option given they already have Brittney on board. But she would be a perfect addition to 'the JAM' on 26.

The St. Patrick's Day Parade booth is getting a makeover this year. Janet Davies and Larry Mowry will take the reins from Alan Krashesky, and while he will be honored by the station/parade for this, his 50th go-around, Joel Daly will not be on the call (I mean, he is 83). Liz Nagy will be on the street, taking over for the retired Frank Mathie.

Kind of an odd set-up tonight for primary election coverage. Alan and Cheryl led off the 5 o'clock news, but she was off the desk by the first commercial break. Alan went solo with Phil and Mark the rest of the way. If that was the plan to have her leave so soon, Kathy or Judy should've filled in.

Maybe she had to poop?

Hahaha, no. I didn't clarify, but he did explain that she left to go to some location to report.

The weather team has debuted a podcast. The first episode went up more than a week ago, and they're not yet promoting it, so I'd say it's still in soft-launch mode. The thumbnail/icon likely gives another tease at the new graphics I've been speculating about for more than a year. I listened to the first episode, and while it's not the most technical discussion (which is probably a good thing), the meteorologists are able to dive into stuff that doesn't fit into the 1-3 minute windows they have on the newscasts.

"Our expert ABC7 meteorologists walk you through weather phenomena, the ins and outs of the weather industry, and give you a detailed look at how weather affects the world around us."

If they stick with those then I can live with them... they aren’t bad at all...

Despite me being from Florida and don't have any connections to Chicago (despite just one visit to O'Hare and nothing more), I tried out the podcast. Not too bad and have subscribed it to give it more of a listen.

No surprise, but the old ESPN graphics remain for Cubs broadcasts. The package is ultimately inoffensive, and I wish they would've done something with the scoreboard, but I figured that that was unlikely. This will be the look for the 5-year deal.

Looks like 7 flipped on a new antenna atop the Willis Tower last week... towards the bottom of this Feder article... supposedly the signal is crisper and clearer OTA...

Wonder if they bought their channel 22 transmitter yet. They suppose to move frequencies & vacate RF 44 sometime next year.

The reception on my digital tuner has been flawless since the change, when it could be a little touchy before, so the new antenna is doing its job.

By the way, would April 28th be the first Saturday of sweeps? I only ask, because things are up, and gotta be coming soon. Most pieces only feature the updated logo, and paired with the same Helvetica set, I have a feeling the new look will be a significant, though not necessarily completely new package, In addition to the new weather promos, these all have rolled out in the last few week, with this first one debuting just yesterday (note, the angled lines in the background match the current full screens, just flatter)...
