CBS New Graphics Apparenly Revealed

If you say so... Actually, I kind of like Denver television the way it is, affiliation-wise. And it's all thanks to the Westinghouse-CBS merger, and NBC's desire for a Philly station!

Because Fox.

Oh, and NBC never should have left KRON. XD

Not as long as K. C. Robertson remains as WJZ's creative services director.

K. C. had enough influence to prevent the first graphics/music standardization on WJZ (and remember, WBZ, KCNC and WFOR fought tooth and nail to retain elements of their previous identities before ultimately caving) and he has a really good shot of keeping this standardization from being implemented.

That isn't a genuine rendition of the Group W font... more like a crudely redrawn variant. Compare the current "13" to the "13" seen in YouTube videos from the 1980s and 1990s. It's depressing to look at.

What WJZ should do is revert the "13" to the ORIGINAL typeface, colored in gold, and paired with the CBS eye. Similar to what KPIX successfully did earlier this year.

Very interesting site of all the WJZ stuff.

- The lower-thirds and ticker look like they're positioned lower than the current graphics. I think this is a good move because the current look seems ridiculously high and takes some extreme same areas into account.

That was one (of many) thing that bugged me about the package. Anyone know why the lower thirds were positioned so high?

I never thought the lower third was that high... I mean... using Photoshop's safe areas the tickers on all four stations are roughly the same size and position. It might just be that there's more opaqueness to the lower thirds this time around.

Perhaps it's in relation to BZ's previous graphics package then. There always seemed to be too large a gap between the bottom of the screen and the bottom of the L3 in the mandated pack.

I bet you KTVT will get the new graphics as well, and I predicted that CBS 11 will get a new set. They're now anchoring in a temporary studio with the current anchor desk as well.

KTVT is the only station to have an animated logo bug from their former giantOctopus GFX package. Bet ya they'll still use that bug when the new GFX comes.

So it looks like almost all of the CBS O&O's will have a new logo that is KCBS/KCAL-ish along with the new graphics?

If they're going to do that, they might as well bring back the Group W font "2" for KDKA.

Otherwise it's going to look real stupid.

Agreed.

KDKA-LOGO-e1335470418862.jpg This is their logo from 2003 when they dropped the GW font. It's colorful, but the font choice is awful.

Yet, this very logo still hangs in their lobby at Gateway Center. I've seen it in person. (Though the old Group W logo is still on almost all of the glass doors in their suite)
