And how hard is it to fly a drone or something to shoot footage at night? That seems like a lazy excuse.

Part 107 FAA regulations state you need a waiver to fly past 30 minutes of civil twilight (30 minutes past sunset). So it’s not crazy impossible, just a little tougher than doing some quick shots with a drone at night.

You can always do a nighttime timelapse on the ground... that would look cool

You know what I just realized?! WNEM’s 2014 opens are really a knockoff of WFSB’s!

Add to that the awful Scripps L3’s.

These are derived from WRAL’s graphics that came out eons ago and eventually updated & used until 2016. I forget who did them... I think it was Hothaus or GO

WABC also used those same opens/GFX from 2008-09 to 2012:

I'm getting a TWC/Spectrum News vibe out of CHCH's news graphics.

Oh man, how was this missed?

CHCH launched their graphics in 2014, long before Spectrum.

Quick update about WNEM's graphics. They have recently ditch their "knockoff" gfx and switch to the CBS O&O GFX. It's a huge improvement than before .

This isn’t really a bad open graphics-wise, but when you use the voice of tabloid TV news alongside a very mellow-sounding news theme, you get a very mis-matched news open.

Hubbard would later make more bad choices for their TV stations’ imaging in the years to come:

A KSDK promo from 1997. Strange that what was then a Gannett station used a modified version of the Hearst "Camera" package, and a logo animation similar to what those stations used at that time in this promo.
