CBS O&O Bugs

This is a realllllllly stupid question but I need to ask this for some reason.

Outside of news, what bug is your CBS O&O station using? I'm asking, mostly, because when KYW went to the Giant Glass Eye in 2010 they started using the newscast bug for both news and syndicated programming. Since we've gone to the silver/yellow logo, they're still using that bug outside of news programming. (Don't worry - the HD tumor was removed a few months prior to that change when they decided to box the CBS 3 logo. The current bug is that version minus the thin box outline.)

Wondering if that's the case for all of the O&Os, or if it's just us. :p

WBBM used the news bug minus time/temp with the last package, but are now using a plain white version with website, contrasting from the current news bug. The new one might even be a little translucent. What strikes me as odd, is that it's also outside the 4:3 area, though not entirely as the left edge of the eye is visible. Mind you, they don't letterbox anything.

KCNC uses a huge one with a black box behind it that's big enough to hide the network bug. It looks more like something from before they went to the standardized graphics.

I haven't paid that much attention to KPIX, but I think it might be a ghosted version of the KPIX-5 logo.

That thing is from the package pre-standardization. It's not pretty.

WJZ only put the bugs when the program first comes to commercial (network and syndication) covering up the standard eye with this one http://logos.wikia.com/wiki/WJZ-TV?file=WJZ13.png it's different from the one that's used during the news which they made it glossy with a gold hue (it's really ugly). During CBS special reports they completely cover the CBS eye with their own logo.

To meet their FCC requirements at the top of the hour it's the same logo as I linked to but includes a second line to indicate WJZ-DT and a third line saying Baltimore. I'm surprised that five years after the digital transition no one noticed or bothered to change the logo to go back to just saying WJZ-TV, as a comparison WBAL-TV removed the DT from their NameDropper Unit (the piece of equipment NBC provides to automatically put the Today Show time and Temp in as well as the regular logo) the day after the digital transition.

Here I start my only rant about WBAL-TVs many logos. WBA-TV is the only station in the market to throw their logo onto all broadcasts (syndication and network). Prior to the most recent Today Show graphics package they would go as far to key in a linear version of their logo with the text WBAL-TV next to the time, temp, the Facebook, Twitter and occasional Pandora logos all of which didn't disappear right away when they would do the weather. With the new Today graphics they figured out how to replace the standard Today show sunrise between news headlines with their logo. I'm thankful that the Olympics are over because their Olympified logo was about 4x the size of their standard logo. And during Ravens Season (since they are the broadcast team of the Ravens, despite most games being aired by CBS, but I guess with both of WBAL-TV Sports Director Gerry Sandusky being the voice of the Ravens and sister radio stations WBAL-AM and WIYY-FM simulcasting the games) every Purple Friday the logo goes from translucent to opaque purple cycling to show the broadcast team logo (if the ravens are on a streak the logo goes to everyday. Since WBAL-TV probably thought the Orioles were left out they get Orange Fridays logos if they do good during the season this time the logo turns to opaque orange then cycles to show the oriole bird. With all these special logos there has to be an NBC Branding Guidelines book that has never been opened on TV Hill.

KDKA never uses their own logo in a bug outside of newscasts. On CBS programming, the standard "eye" is shown. On syndicated programming, they don't put any bug on screen at all. Their only local programs that have a bug are Pittsburgh Today Live and Hometown High Q.

They'd technically be violating some FCC rules here, since they're identifying with the wrong callsign. I remember after the transition that the FCC was making a big deal about making sure everyone was using the right designation, and that only a few stations had been allowed to use -DT. WJZ is in the system as "WJZ-TV", so that's what they should be identifying as.

Here in Los Angeles, KCBS (and KCAL) use seperate bugs for news and syndicated programming; solid silver/gold ones for news, a transparent white one for syndicated shows. I just wish that KCBS would use a glassy "2" to match up with the CBS logo during its syndicated programming...to me, it'll be consistent with all the non-news programming.

WJZ's current newscast opens read (with the accompanying announcer copy) "This is WJZ-TV, WJZ-HD and WJZ.com, Baltimore." (The "WJZ.com" line has since, IIRC, been modified to CBSBaltimore.com, making the ID further inaccurate.)

SOMEHOW K.C. Robertson is able to get away with it...

They only show it for a few seconds during network programming, too. I don't think KCNC has a bug during syndicated programming.

KCNC's dabbled with bugs during network programming before; in the 2001-02 season they stuck a "NEWS4" logo next to the Eyemark, and during the 2004-05 season, they stuck their Arial Black "4" next to it (both of these were to its left).

They still identify first with WJZ-TV on one line, WJZ-DT on the second line, and Baltimore on the third line,

They have dropped the WJZ-HD from their open and everything else is the same.
