Sinclair Rolls Out New Graphics In Columbus

KEYE is supposed to get them in early '15 from what I know, though not specified exactly when. Not entirely sure why we're getting them so late, but it's a good reminder given how slow this roll-out appears to be.

probably switching over to Sinclair standard equipment and remember how many stations they've got to convert, unless they're going the Gannett route and just porting the graphics over to existing systems. Sinclair uses Chyron equipment but they bought stations that might use different cg's like VizRT, Pixel Power, Ross, etc.

Oddly enough, we haven't upgraded our graphics equipment yet or have even heard if we're going to. Still running Avid Thunder and Avid Deko. Switching over to VizRT or Chyron is hopefully what's in mind.

Probably.

Although I'll be honest, it looks fine for stations like WSYX and KOKH. But it's going to look very very cheap for a station like WJLA.

It will at least be an upgrade from WJLA's dated look but compared to WRC, it's going to look pretty bad.

Some parts of it look like the Gannett package that WUSA has but with cheaper animation. Wonder if anyone else will notice that.

It really wouldn't look that bad if they had just a little more effort into the animation during the transitions and what not. Right now, the current WJLA graphics have better animation.

Here's the open as seen on KOKH. The open seems cheap. The animations stop a couple seconds before the open ends:

Also, we g÷t to see Sinclair's L3s animated and...it sucks even for OKC. If this is the package coming for WJLA, then Sinclair might as well hand 2nd place over to WUSA.

The Scripps opens from 2009 had more flair.

It's not bad, but just feels really incomplete. Kinda like a loaf of bread that didn't have baking soda added beforehand.

WUSA is so messed up that WJLA could implement these graphics as-is, and the ratings impact would still be negligible.

True, I think the only way WUSA would be competitive again is if they did what WJLA did back in the early 2000's when they poached talent from WUSA (Gordon Peterson, Doug Hill) and moved them all to WJLA.

That was when WUSA fell from grace and they haven't recovered since.

If you believe the NMSA, the new Sinclair music was done by 615. That's actually believable. I'm definitely getting more of a 615 vibe from it than an Arnold. And remember, GrooveWorx and 615 are under the same banner (Warner-Chappell) so we may not have been wrong all along, in a way...

Please please don't believe me. Especially the package designers who have a cut! https://vimeo.com/96923173

That's not accurate either. The Groove Addicts Library is owned by Warner-Chappell. Groove Worx is still an independent company. The name change from Groove Addicts to Groove Worx was conditional of the library acquisition.

Watching that video the animations' similarity to the Gannett G3.0 look is astounding.

Also, I am in agreement on 615. While NewsMusicNow may not be a paragon of accuracy, their tweet about this package being 615 was actually retweeted by the Warner-Chappell Production Music Twitter account. I don't think that'd be happening otherwise.

I'm kind of surprised this came from Quarter-Past-Six. Of course they really needed this because been getting dumped as of late, thanks to the M&A craze.

Since it is the case, now for the first time, all four news stations in its homebase uses 615!!! Of course that could change should the Lighthouse strips Impact from WTVF.

I'm just going to throw this out now. We don't have any confirmation from 615 or Stephen Arnold or even a station employee. I'm working on the third one now. If you want to speculate, take it to the speculatron.

I'm going to be curious to see if they try to roll this look out to the markets that also have a Gannett station, because I think it really will look like an attempted ripoff if you put them side by side. Then again, not rolling them out against Gannett would mean that they need at least two more looks, given the KABB/WOAI duopoly across town from KENS.

As clunky as it is, the package WRGB/WCWN began using back in March could be jazzed up a little as a second choice,

I would imagine you guys are getting early '15 because that's when they'll be finished with "The Great Conversion" (WOAI moving into KABB). They're in the process of building a new studio in the KABB building and should be finished the whole move by December. Once that's done and KABB/WOAI are on the new graphics package (which you would think is more or less interchangeable), they'll just move up the road to Austin. Wouldn't be surprised if there's a new set in the works, too. Would make more sense to do it all at once and put in the new set while converting to OverDrive/Chyron.

I agree it would be best to switch with the new set.

Do you work at 4/29? Curious because I want to confirm this info.

We haven't honestly heard much other than a March '15 date for the new standardized graphics. Ideally, a new set is in the works as well, but there's no word on that. But considering our current set dates back almost ten years, you'd think Sinclair would be up to something on that end. Cuts of the new music package have also been floating around the station, assuming for people to preview.

Wait--Sinclair outsourced the GFX? And got THAT??

Eeeeeeeeeyikes. :-/

They probably went with the cheapest option they had and got THAT.

It wouldn't look too bad if there was more animation to them.

Well, it's from The Bland Gallery, so it makes some sense.

Oh, wait... it's The Brand Gallery?

Wow.
