Thread Note: Since Scripps has indicated they intend to run ION Media as a separate entity from their existing (mostly) news-producing stations, ION discussion has been relocated to a new thread.

Has Scripps picked up any NBA teams yet?  Curious to see where the Cavaliers end up one FanDuel goes back to its home planet.

More than likely they'll end up with Gray on their Rock Sports channel co-owned by Dan Gilbert.

Wouldn't that be WZPX?

Maybe once Scripps owns WZPX isn't going to be known until a few months after the sales goes final.

Scripps has filed for trademark status with the USPTO on March 23rd for... Shop Scripps.

I guess "Shop Scripps" already went live... but not as a revival of "Ion Shop," but rather as one of those paid steals-and-deals segments during newscasts. Saw one today during WCPO's 4PM newscast.

Kinda like those extremely low-quality "CBS Deals" segments on CBS's O&Os?

How many shopping channels do we need? The last I want is garbage channels filling the airwaves.

Airwaves and cable channels.

I have not seen it reported here yet.  Back in April, WTVQ discontinued its own newscasts on the weekends and now simulcasts those from WLEX.  As far as I know, WTVQ is still producing its newscasts for weekdays.  Going by this clip, the only noticeable difference is the ABC36 logo bug in place of LEX18's logo on the L3.

I’ve been noticing more LIVE reports on WXYZ of late. I wonder if they are backing off the Scrippscast/Lets only record packages thing?

They definitely have been backing off from the heavily pre-recorded stuff since they got the new music and graphics back in October of last year. The 11pm news was prerecorded a couple of years ago but the station reversed back to being LIVE at 11 in the fall of 2024 when the presidential election took place.

Which station? WXYZ has been prerecorded for a couple years now at 11. You can tell because there are no anchor interactions with weather or sports. Unless they started doing that in the last month. The sometimes rough cuts not letting the anchor finish their sentence are another clue. All definitely more recent than fall 2024.

Watching last nights show… it’s recorded for sure. Tonight’s had a live A block and then it was recorded.

The pacing of 7 News Detroit at 11pm has started to feel more like an LIVE show to me since the new graphics package launched but you do have a point when it comes to segments of the show still being recorded, so it is not fully LIVE.

I think they have gotten better at editing. With WDIV an absolute dumpster fire 7 is the best station in town for what it’s worth.

Which the Pistons will be aired on WXMI DT2 in the fall since Scripps owns FOX17 in West Michigan, even know there was no mention of WXMI will be said once the Pistons get OTA across the state of Michigan come fall. The Pistons were aired on channel 17 in the 80s until 93 then WXSP from 99-08.

Next domino of the Lexington Scripps cluster to fall: starting Tuesday, May 25 WLEX and WTVQ will move to simulcast a new morning show "LEXNews at Sunrise."

WTVQ already simulcasts the weekend news, and it appears replacing Good Morning Kentucky is next. For now, it appears that WTVQ's news department will continue to produce its own noon, 3pm, 5-6:30pm, and 11pm news.

And in advancement of this, WTVQ.com is officially dead. No redirect, no message to send them to the new website, nothing.

It’s still active on my end.

And I assume a new logo/branding for WTVQ?

KSTU (FOX 13 Utah) just welcomed a new anchor to its news team and that person is Jiani Navarro. She comes from Gray Media’s KCTV 5 in Kansas City, where she was a weekend morning anchor and weekday field reporter. Navarro’s duties at FOX 13 are co-anchoring the flagship 5 & 9pm newscasts with Bob Evans. She will co-anchor from the field at 5 and then join Evans in studio at 9.

Here is a video from the FOX 13 Instagram page on her welcome.
