When it came down I saw firsthand how it rocked the Sinclair-Allbritton deal and forced many, many changes of plan (which were reported HERE FIRST, I might add). Telemundo's local news expansion galore was a big story too. That was probably the biggest increase in news volume in Spanish-language television here ever. Not just the added half-hour on early evenings but the weekend expansion in many cities and the investment in new sets at many stations and the brand-new graphics that have started rolling out.

Especially considering how long WISH was part of CBS even during the 90's when stations were switching affiliations left and right. Not to mention the impact it had on the LIN/MG deal.

With Lin/Media General, Sinclair, Hearst station swap along with Phoenix's Indy/CBS merger. Another year of Media Mergers and owners leaving the business.

I don't think 10 was a good number to shoot for, I can't even think of 10 although we keep naming items so we'll get there.

Kinda shocked me Allbritton insisted on selling the entire station portfolio to reduce their tax hit. I don't think Disney/ABC could have taken them all, then turned around and sold the ones they didn't want, without inheriting the tax hit.

For that matter I doubt Disney/ABC wants to buy any stations...

I don't think Disney/ABC could have taken them all, then turned around and sold the ones they didn't want, without inheriting the tax hit. ...and the big story of this was the implications on the stations in Birmingham and Charleston, with WCIV being shoehorned onto the existing WMMP, and WBMA moving to WABM and leaving WCFT and WJSU (later returning after HSH's takeover). Same can be said for the swap-a-roo in Las Vegas that moved KSNV to KVMY's frequency, and KVMY over to a subchannel of KVCW. The bottom line is that the shell game Sinclair has been playing with JSA/SSAs is no longer tolerated by the FCC. They had to find a way to make these sales work, and the frequency games were the only way how, with Howard Stirk Holdings taking "full" control of the conflict stations (and Cunningham taking over WTAT) ....for now.
