CircleSeven 1955
OMG, I thought I would never see this coming. An OTA diginet airing classic game shows. TVNewsCheck stated that the Fox O&Os will carry a brand new dignet Buzzr TV, which the network is formed by FremantleMedia North America & Debmar-Mercury. Buzzr TV will air game shows from the FremantleMedia library. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/14156-buzzr-tv-a-new-game-show-diginet/ Share on other sites

ToriElectra 292
I do like the idea- GSN is a bit too obsessed with Steve Harvey Family Feud now; but we have been getting a virtual flood of new diginets over the past few months. It's like a diginet typhoon. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/14156-buzzr-tv-a-new-game-show-diginet/#findComment-121684 Share on other sites

Guest Former Member 207
I do like the idea- GSN is a bit too obsessed with Steve Harvey Family Feud now; but we have been getting a virtual flood of new diginets over the past few months. It's like a diginet typhoon. The Harvey version of "Feud" is also running on TV Land, BET, and Centric as well. According to the article, they're going to air the previous versions of "Feud", including Louie Anderson's, which to my recollection hasn't been seen in reruns (on GSN or Ion, back when they had the rights) since their original airings. I would be suprised if they do air "Price is Right" reruns, given how supposedly CBS and Fremantle are protective of them. That was reportedly the reason why GSN stopped airing TPIR reruns years ago. Also, given the timing of this network's launch, it'll seem likely that Buzzr will take the spot of Bounce TV on Fox's MyTV subchannel lineups once the latter moves to the Univision/UniMas subchannel lineups. TheRolyPoly 2449
Oh yes, another digital subchannel focused on a type of show(s) and in this case, game shows. I guess stations don't care about 24/7 weather coverage on TV anymore. I thought WeatherNation TV would catch fire like other digital subchannels, but I guess not. It's still struggling to capture affiliates as of this post and right now, I don't know if 24/7 local weather coverage on a digital subchannel can survive anymore, since most have dropped it for either Antenna TV, Me-TV, etc. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/14156-buzzr-tv-a-new-game-show-diginet/#findComment-121694 Share on other sites

TexasTVNews 1377
As a loyal fan of TV Game Shows including Wheel, J!, TPIR, High Rollers, Hollywood Squares, Card Sharks my all-time favorite game show The Pyramid ($20/25/100K); I say this is a huge opportunity, but what is this mean for the future of GSN. Action Newsroom 1283
...Why do we need yet another digital subchannel? Why not? It seems they're the wave of the future, and people really like them. Since cord-cutting has been rampant for the past few years, and I've read many comments of people saying they don't need cable if it has channels they don't want/need, especially with everything on the Internet. And, to me, they have all the shows & movies I love to watch, and all the choices I'll ever need when watching TV, along with Netflix and Hulu. And with this one, game shows, too. I always wanted to watch older episodes of Bob Barkers's Price is Right, older Wheel & Jeopardy! and all of Family Feud (especially after GSN's abuse of the Steve Harvey era). Now with this, I will do so. GSN will suffer after this, but it's a matter of time before we learn how greatly. Raymie, I get your point that there are a lot of these sub-channels around today that we don't need, but for me, I can take what I can get, when there is so much crap covering the gems on TV these days. jmkcool2002 8
I think it's only a matter of time before we see a diginet themed after a specific show like Entertainment Tonight or TMZ or Access Hollywood, something which is newsy and celebrity driven since E! and Pop are starting to head towards scripted TV. We might also see a diginet with just talk shows. Someone like Telepictures has a vast array of talk shows which I'm sure they would like to be used for some kind of purpose. I also wonder if Weigel launches Touchcast as a news diginet for young people to compete with HLN/Fusion/YouTube or if Sinclair launches NewsChannel8 nationally as a diginet. Sinclair could even launch American Sports Network or a sports conference-themed network like a C-USA network after it's contract runs out. I think we're seeing a spark in diginets because content providers have libraries of content which aren't being used and broadcast nets have spectrum which is unused. It's cheap and simple to put out a diginet with archival shows and 1 or 2 original shows which grab an audience but don't impede on the main channel's audience. In terms of Buzzr TV, what does this mean for the YouTube channel from Fremantle which is launching under the same name? I didn't see any mention of it in the stories or press releases. Someone like Telepictures has a vast array of talk shows which I'm sure they would like to be used for some kind of purpose. I'm surprised there hasn't been a diginet or a cable network doing exactly this before. NBCUniversal has a very large talk library dating back to buying Multimedia Entertainment. I'm sure there'd be SOME sort of value in that. And like you mentioned, Telepictures has a large talk library as well, as does CTD. Rusty Muck 4378
I'm surprised there hasn't been a diginet or a cable network doing exactly this before. NBCUniversal has a very large talk library dating back to buying Multimedia Entertainment. I'm sure there'd be SOME sort of value in that. Especially if there are any surviving episodes of Phil Donahue and/or Bob Braun (which go even beyond Multimedia into the AVCO Embassy era). Heck, the first two seasons of Jerry Springer would be very interesting to see in their own right. Or Maury way back before he became a paternity test clown... cbs2newengland 72
People also thought AM stereo was the wave of the future. I think the "AM stereo" is false argument. I don't think this is a fad by anymeans. Dissing this type of channel I think is unfair just given the audience (on here assumingly) and elsewhere where there can be a market for retro game shows. I'm at the point of admission I watched mostly the CBN/Family Channel, USA and the other network I'm forgetting that ran the game shows of the 80s. I remember where I was when I first fell in love with Press Your Luck! To me, digi channels is like the cable networks of the late 80s. They took risks, didn't make profits and the difference now with everything being transmitted through inexpensive servers and playback apps and fiber access, this is much cheaper than spending milliions on 2" tape playback systems, Betacam decks and a huge dish and paying that dish to work. I concur with most of the sentiment. It may give some competition to GSN. The problem is the working audience isn't home when the retro games are running, and when they are, they are bombarded with Steve Harvey (nothing against the man, mind you.) It is a little too much. There is the competition on YouTube (which probably the target audience is already on) but you can make them turn their head to another direction and see it on another screen, or get their lazy @$$es off the chair or the computer maybe it can be marketable. wonder if Cox will take this too. That would be the only thing I'd watch on the WFXT airwaves other than Fox shows because of their generic, cookie cuttered newscast they had suddenly force fed my market! fl19ga114sc105 3
...Why do we need yet another digital subchannel? As people on here have been saying cord cutters are reason. When you don't pay for a channel you don't watch it doesn't matter how many digital sub channels launch as it won't cost you, the viewer any money out of your pocket. In my market there are currently 58 channels that can be picked up over the air, if someone only watches only 10 of those channels (main and subchannels) it doesn't matter about the other 48, as they are not paying a package for them. easttxtv 7
Wow, a local non-cable airing of Match Game again for the first time in 3 1/2 decades. I'd be up for that, if it's on a channel I can pick up (since the cable where I'm staying doesn't include locally-aired subchannels). At the rate diginets are going with all the specialties now, including this latest game show one, I wouldn't be surprised to hear a newsblurb about a diginet for soap opera reruns. Retro TV's airings of The Doctors have gotten the channel much viewer feedback and have led to a second daily set of airings of the soap in primetime. WXmanTim 88
As a lover of classic game shows, I couldn't be happier about this announcement. I'm curious as to where this will air in Houston. KRIV currently doesn't operate a diginet. Movies! is on KTXH-20.2 and MundoFox is on 20.3 (the primary MundoFox affiliate is an LD station that also carries RetroTV), which I guess they could drop in favor of Buzzr Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/14156-buzzr-tv-a-new-game-show-diginet/#findComment-121801 Share on other sites
tyrannical bastard 3955
As more and more of these channels come into existence, and available channel space is depleted, especially if a repack occurs, ATSC is going to have to move into an MPEG4 compression scheme. johnnya2k6 171
So far, WAGA has Movies! on 5.2, so Buzzr TV will likely be on 5.3 (speaking of Atlanta, the new Justice Network is on WXIA 11.3). But I wonder if the game show reruns on Buzzr will retain the contestant/ticket plugs that were edited out of the GSN airings; who knows about Match Game/Hollywood Squares Hour? (By the way...I'm also all for a talk show diginet, though "Maury" reruns would be in question (CBS owns the pre-1998 episodes)) Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/14156-buzzr-tv-a-new-game-show-diginet/#findComment-121838 Share on other sites
TexasTVNews 1377
KDFW sister station KDFI has Movies! on 27.2, I have a felling that Buzzr TV would be moving to 27.2 and Movies! would be on 4.2.
